Hey RAGOM fans let me introduce to you miss Corvette.  She came into RAGOM's care with several other dogs from a breeder in ND.  Corvette has been in my home since Labor Day weekend.  She looks almost identical to miss Carrera.  Corvette is a petite young girl that is 2.5 years old and she is an English Creme Golden Retriever.  What I can tell you about this girl is that she is very shy and timid, like many former puppy mill dogs.  She follows the lead of my resident dogs, Indy and Lauren, and is slowly learning that this is really the good life now.  FD has been taking the full pack (all 4 dogs) for walks at night as much as we can.  Corvette is getting used to the Gentle Leader but the first 2-3 blocks she tries her hardest to wiggle out of it.  Once she realizes this isn't going to happen she falls in place and follows the other dogs.  When we encounter other walkers, dogs, bike riders, etc. Corvette becomes very nervous.  Sometimes we veer off of the trail and onto a lawn until the other party has passed.

Corvette needs to gain a lot more confidence.  When we walk her ears are all the way back and her tail is close to being tucked.  But with constant praise and assurance from FD that she is a good girl she will eventually become more relaxed and enjoy things even more.  Everyday things still startle her, such as the dishwasher running or even the toaster popping up the toast.  She does love her toast in the morning with peanut butter:)

Corvette is up to date on her vaccinations.  The big item remaining is to have her spayed.  FD is waiting for a confirmed appointment for this.  If you would like to meet her she plans on attending the big Goldzilla event with her pals, Indy and Lauren.  We may have to seek out a quiet spot if she becomes too overwhelmed with the crowd and noise.  Just look for this beauty with her red collar and gentle leader to fit her "Little Red Corvette" image.

Updates

Thursday, December 8, 2011

Hello my RAGOM fans! Corvette has some really big news to share with everyone. She met a wonderful couple and their resident dog, Morgan, the day after Thanksgiving and they loved her so much that they adopted her. Foster Dad cold not have picked a more ideal forever home for little Corvette. She really did win the lottery in the forever home category. Her new home is on a lake just north of Brainerd. Her new Mom and Dad added a fence for security for Morgan and their late beloved Maggie. Plus they have another 40 acres of land to explore and romp around on. Just wait it gets even better as Corvette's new Mom is home during the day while her Dad goes to work.

The first few days Corvette was hesitant about coming back in the house from outside. Now she races to the house and nearly knocks Morgan over to get back inside first, likely to her prime spot on the couch or on the bed. She apparently has claimed their couch like she had in FD's house as a good spot to snuggle and relax on.

I hope to post an update down the road for the Happy Endings page. Corvette has lots of new things to learn from her new parents and Morgan. Morgan used to compete in dock diving events but now enjoys a more leisurely lifestyle. Hopefully she can teach Corvette the fine art of fishing in their lake or just plain old swimming when the weather warms up again next spring.

Corvette's new Mom wrote the following:

Corvette definitely likes to walk! We have been walking every day and she has even started telling me when it is time to go. It is obviously one of her favorite times of the day.

Thank you S. family and Morgan for choosing RAGOM for your newest family member! Congratulations to Corvette on her forever home!

FD has so much to tell you about what little Miss Corvette has been up to.  She has been busy with a few road trips (including one again this weekend).  She rides really well on three and four plus hour car rides.  Her favorite way of traveling is to use Indy as a big pillow and put her head on Indy's back (sorry no pictures of this).

Last weekend the entire family was in town to visit FD and the dogs.  At first Corvette was nervous with having 5 nephews, 1 niece, and 5 other adults milling about in her house.  She liked to hunker down between the chair and the wall close to her FD.  Fortunately as time went on she moved out of her safe spot and found a cozy spot on the couch where she got lots of rubs and hugs from the younger family members.

This past Monday Corvette underwent her spay surgery.  Dr. R. and the staff at ACH did an excellent job and she has been a model patient since.! We have been back twice to have quick exams to make sure that the incision is healing up properly.  The wonderful doctors are looking out for Corvette and this is merely an added precaution due to her von Willebrand's disease.  We have a full three weeks to keep Corvette on limited activity and leash walks.  So far she is doing just great.

Another reason for the lack of updates is that FD had an awful cold and felt miserable for nearly 2 weeks.  My biggest consolation was Corvette and Indy and Lauren and how nicely they snuggled with me.  Corvette followed me from room to room and would either be my foot warmer or my snuggle partner with her head on my chest when I laid down.

If you have another dog, a physical fence, and no children or teen aged and older, and would like to know more about Corvette please contact your placement advisor.

One of the new pictures is of Corvette as she came home on Monday night from her surgery.  She was sporting a big red belly band.  One of the vet techs was signing "Little Red Corvette"to her before FD picked her up.

Corvette has been so busy lately and she wanted her fans to know just what she has been up to since her last update.  So here goes:

She is an excellent traveler.  A few weekends ago she went up to help FD and his family close their cabin for the season.  She LOVED the cabin and the lake especially.  Sorry FD didn't capture any pictures of Corvette in the water.  She followed Lauren in the lake and would get a drink of water and then just laid there in the shallow water.  She loved the few boat rides too.  And on the 4 hour car ride home she crawled into the back seat and along with Dakota they used Indy as a pillow.

Corvette also has been back to the vet for a test.  Her father, Bentley 11-270, and her sister Carrera 11-275, both have a condition known as von Willebrands disease.  The test that was given to Corvette was a bleed test and the results indicated that she likely has the same condition as Bentley and Carrera.  What this means is that we have to be careful to keep Corvette from serious injury as her blood takes longer than normal to clot and stop bleeding.  Corvette has yet to be spayed and when the vets do this surgery she will receive a transfusion of cryoprecipitate which will help her blood to clot and recover from the surgery.  Corvette is a peanut and weighs all of 47 pounds.

Some of Corvette's favorite activities are going for walks (yes she tries to wiggle out of the Gentle Leader for the first couple of blocks but then she toes the line and does not want to be left behind).  She also enjoys going for car rides (even if it is to the vet).  And she just loves to follow FD anywhere.  She was a big help yesterday in the back yard raking leaves.  That is Corvette laying near a pile of leaves and rolling onto her back and begging for FD to please rub my tummy.  The second shot is here adorable smile.

Corvette's forever home will need the following:

Another resident dog
No small children (Fast moves and loud noises startle and scare her)
A physical fence would be ideal as she did not like the tie out on our visit to the cabin.

Well Corvette sure did have a GReat time last weekend at Goldzilla.  She surprised FD at how brave she was in meeting so many new people and dogs.  It really helped to meet up with her sister, Carrera, and Snowy too.  After meeting Carrera it was clear to see how much more confident and assured she is as compared to Corvette.  Corvette is still timid and shy in new uncertain surroundings and situations.  It takes time to gain her trust and build her confidence.  She loves to hang out with resident dogs, Indy and Lauren.  She watches them like a hawk and does what they do.  Corvette will need the following in her forever home:

Another confident dog to show her the way.  A physical fence as she could be a flight risk as she spooks easily.
Children over 10 would be better.  She does get very nervous around younger children.

Corvette gets to head up north this weekend to check on the fall colors and spend time at FD's cabin.  I bet this girl is going love the lake as she likes to jump in the kiddie pool in the backyard.

Hope you enjoy the picture of Miss Corvette in between Lauren and Indy hanging out at the Foster Showcase area at Goldzilla on Saturday.  By the time this picture was taken the girls were just a tad bit tired.  Please let your placement advisor know if you would be interested in learning more about Corvette.
