Hi everyone!  My name is Jersey and I am new to the RAGOM family as of Thursday July 28th!  Let me introduce myself.

I am a female labradoodle and I am 9 months old. So we are setting my birthdate at 10/21/2010.  I am 38 pounds and VERY skinny, so I need to put on some weight on my frame.  My coat is a little thin right now, so with some good nutrition it should fill in just fine.

I was surrendered to a humane society by a person that had had me for 3 months and who had some job changes and didn't have any time for me.  I was used to being outside on a tie-up for 8-10 hours a days and crated in the bedroom at night for 12 hours.  So I would only get a couple of hours of human time each day.  That is not enough for a young puppy like me!  Plus only 2 walks a week just wasn't enough.

I came in with the gorgeous Marco 11-253.  He and I became instant friends.  When we were dropped off by the wonderful RAGOM transporter, we got to run around for a bit and then it was outdoor bath time for the both of us.  We both did GREAT with bathing and blow drying and loved the attention.  Then I got to run around with my new fostersisters, both of whom are Golden Doodles.  Though everyone was bigger than me, I tried to play with everyone!  I am a super social gal and love to play.  FM doesn't see any aggression in me.  I try and hip check everyone and then go underneath them.  I am good at listening to dog signals, as one of my fostersisters gave me some "settle down now" growls because I was very excited. After a couple of hours playing, it was time for Marco to go home with his new fosterdad, so we came in the house.

After checking out the house, we decided to relax and watch some TV.  FM invited me up for a snuggle.  I am very much a lap-dog and loved the attention!  A couple of hours later it was time for bed.  I slept in a crate in the bedroom and did great.  A couple of little whimpers, but I settled right down and slept all night for 8 hours.

I do have some good springs in my feet too!  I am not baby-gate respecting yet.  I can hope effortlessly over a babygate.  FM says it is gazelle-like.  But hey, rules are meant to be broken, right?  (FM says not-so-much. Hrumpf)  I do not resource guard my food or any toys.  FM can take them away from me no problem.  I am just a big lover.

Some things to remember about me.  I am a PUPPY and therefore have lots of energy and will require a lot of time from my new family to socialize me, take me to obedience class, and just LOVE me and play with me.  I am going to prefer a home with a fence.  And if you have another playful dog, that would be the best!  (FM has yet to decide if I can be an only dog in a house or not.)

On Monday 8/1 I have an appt with Dr. G to get a heartworm check and be brought up-to-date on vaccinations and get my microchip.  On the following Monday 8/8, I am scheduled to have my spay surgery.  I will send another update after my vet appt to give you the 411 on my health status.  I would be ready to go to my forever home a couple of days after my surgery.

If you are interested in meeting me, please contact your placement advisor.  While I am waiting to hear from you, I will be busy out and about with my fostersisters getting some new socialization opportunities.  First stop is Chuck and Don's for a new toys and some treats and to find some kids to meet too.

Bye for now.

Updates

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

Hi Everyone,

Jersey reporting in.  Well, I have had a couple of busy weeks lately.  First off, I was adopted!  But I got to hang out with my foster sisters and FM for an extra week because my new mom had to go on a trip, so I got to go Goldzilla and then on vacation to a river cabin in Wisconsin and it was AWESOME!

Here is a picture of my and a former foster Apollo 10-258 who had his one year anniversay on Goldzilla Day, and Lilly too.  I was having fun playing with him and all the other dogs there!

Then it was off to the cabin the next day.  We were so excited when we saw FM packing up the car with all of our toys and food, we knew something good was coming!

The cabin was nice and big and a huge place to run around in the yard all bordered by woods and little critters.  My nose went CRAZY!  And Krae and Lilly taught me how to swim in the river.  FM doesn't think I had even swum before and I kept running the shore line barking and crying as Krae and Lilly where swimming around and being nuts fetching the tennis ball.  I would put my toe in the water and then back out.  Eventually, I thought the girls would leave me behind so I took the plunge!  Who knew I could swim?  Ok, it wasn't pretty at first, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly.  The water was a bit chilly as I don't have a thick coat like the others, but I did good and loved every minute of it.  And racing up and down the hill chasing the girls was so much fun, and tiring too.

We also had our share of sprinkles up there so there was plenty of indoor play too.  Here Lilly and I were up to our usual tricks.

And after getting all tuckered out, some R&R on FM's leg.

On Wednesday night, we jumped in the car and headed for Taylors Falls.  Oh, I just love Fall!  (OK, it is my first one as my first birthday is next month.)

I hope everyone is enjoing the cool Fall weather!

Hi Everyone!

I am officially adopted now and in my new home for a week and having a great time!  I did not eat much food for the first few days.  I think I missed Krae and Lilly pressuring me to eat!  But I am getting better now, especially on the days that I go to doggie daycare and come home really hungry.

I am adjusting to being an only dog in the house again, but have lots of opportunity for doggie socials on my street as well as daycare.  Then when I come home, I get my mom and 2-legged sister all to myself, so I can be really spoiled with all of the attention.

Here's a picture of me and my new mom Aimee.

When I am a bit older and my bones and joints are all mature, I will get to be her running partner too!  Until then, I have to work on my leash walking skills, so we will be going to class together.

Thank you RAGOM for taking me in even though I am not officially a golden retriever.  But my heart is all Golden!  Thanks to my foster sisters too for sharing everything they had with me and putting up with my puppy antics.  I sure hope to see you every now and again as we are not living that far apart.  FM says I took a little piece of her heart with me and knows that I will be well loved in my new forever home.

Thanks for everything!

Hi everyone!  I know it has been a couple of weeks since my last update, so forgive me. I am so happy to report that my leash restrictions are OVER and I am back to running around like I should be!  FM is VERY happy about that too.

I am still looking for my forever family.  Here is a picture of us patiently watching and waiting.  Gaze deeply into my eyes.  Yes, I am looking at you!

As you can see, I am on the smaller size.  I am 10 months old now and a whopping 41.5 pounds.  I have gained 3.5 pounds in the last month.  I could still use another 3-4 on my frame.  Kraelyn on the left is 72 pounds, and Lilly on the right is 60 pounds, so you can get a good size comparison.  I am a couple of inches shorter at the shoulder than the other gals.  FM does not think I will ever get bigger than 50 pounds at the very most.  Both Krae and Lilly were already 57 pounds at 10 months old.  Maybe I was the runt of my litter.  Who knows.

I went to the RAGOM PetsMart event last Saturday in Eden Prairie and met some really nice people.  I did do some barking at the really little dogs and tried to say hi to them and pulled on the leash.  I did not have the same reaction to the other retrievers at the event.  But after a few minutes, I settled in.  FM thinks that since I was pretty homebound for my recovery from my surgery, that I had a touch of cabin fever.  I have since met other small dogs at 2 vet offices this week and I did great.

I had my last booster shot last Monday so I am totally UTD on all medical and have no outstanding medical issues.  Happy and Healthy am I!  I am totally housebroken too.

I am getting better at eating, though I will walk away from my bowl when I have eaten 1 1/2 cups.  I tend to be more of an evening eater.  But Lilly will lay right next to my bowl, so I feel some pressure to eat breakfast. Afterall, it is the most important meal of the day, right?

When we had some storms this past week, there was a lot of lightning.  It was about 3 a.m. and I was all stretched out on the bed snoozing away.  FM woke up because each time the lightning flashed, I would give it a low growl.  Now mind you, I could not be bothered to lift my head off the pillow, and barely opened one eye.  Just a low motor-boat growl at each flash for a few minutes.  It gave FM a good laugh!  So I guess you can say I do not have storm anxiety.

FM says that I am just the silliest and cuddliest so far.  I love sleeping on the bed and having that physical contact.  And being a lap dog while watching TV is another great pasttime.  Though if the residents are up for playing while watching TV, then that is the ticket!

I am still working on my fetching skills.  We go to an empty playlot by the house to play fetch and really stretch out our legs and burn off some energy.  I have to wear a 50 foot lead trailing behind me, but that does not slow me down one bit.  I actually prefer to run and bump the other dogs the whole time. Once in a while I will come up with the ball.  We all want to have the same ball.  If FM throws out 3 tennis balls, 2 get left behind, so 1 ball it is.  I am very good at giving up the ball to FM.  Lilly needs some more work on that.  She just loves to hang on.  I don't think she has made the connection yet to giving up the ball and getting another throw, but I could be wrong.  She does like to circle FM with the ball or crawl into someone's lap with it to show it off.  I can be quite the tease too.  I wiggle my butt and wag my tail and give them the "come chase me" look.  FM says it is just too cute.

Here is a game of fetch today.  Lilly got this one and I am coming up fast on the outside.

Stealthily moving in for the steal...

And V-I-C-T-O-R-Y!  Even my tail is starting to get that upward curl of the doodle for my victory dance.

When we are out in the playlot, FM has to keep an eye on me as I like to explore.  I don't run off, but will sniff around and follow the scent.  My recall is about 50-60% in that environment, but with 50 feet of lead, FM is always close by to step on it should she need to.  At home, I come running everytime I am called.  I just love to give and receive hugs!  I am also getting really good at not jumping on people and I am nice and quiet sitting in the crate when FM comes home. I have learned that I have to sit with the crate door opened for at least 15 seconds before I can come out to say hi. Then it's all hugs and kisses.

FM has yet to give me free run of the house when she is gone, but is starting to try with some short 1/2 hour stints this weekend.  I have free roam from 5pm to 7:30am the next morning and do great.  I prefer to be in the same room with my foster-sisters to play, and when I want to nap, then I want to be in the same room with FM, or better yet, on her lap.

Well, that's about all I have for you right now.  If you are interested in meeting me, please contact your placement advisor!  I know it is the last week of summer and people are busy and the State Fair is going on, so I will be patient.  Here is a little video of me showing my ability to carry a toy and be silly.  It is a good representation of my overall personality.  Click here.

Bye for now

Hi everyone, Jersey here. Sorry it was so long before the update.  Life was busy here lately.

First, let's talk about me.   I am a super sweet little girl.  Now that I settled in here, I have really shown FM that I do not possess manners just yet. I am a very wiggly girl and try to get my way based on my cuteness.  Ha!  But I am eager to learn!  I have a VERY high activity level and love to run, bump, and play hard with the big dogs.  I have been trying to pull Lilly around by the scruff of her neck, but FM is trying to stop me from doing that.  Lilly doesn't know how to say no to well in this area.  The last foster dog that was here did that to her too.  I can't get away with that with Kraelyn, as she tells me to knock that off.

Last week Dr. G updated me on a rabies vaccine.  I will need a second DHPP 5-way vaccine update on August 21st to booster the one I got at the shelter before I came to RAGOM.  My heartworm test was negative, so I also received a heartworm pill.  My ears were also very clean, so no infections in there.

Tennis balls, big Kong Wubba toys, and soft frisbees are a lot of fun and I will retrieve them, especially if playing one-on-one with FM.  If the other dogs are outside, then I prefer to take the ball and make them chase me for it.  I love to chew on toys and chew pieces off, so a little more in the tough chewer category.  Probably the labrador in me. I will destuff stuffed toys too. Here I am working to remove the handle from the small Jolly Ball

I must have been allowed on the furniture in my previous 2 homes as I love to be on the couch with my fostersisters and sleep on the big bed with everyone. Morning snuggling is the BEST. I love how my fostersisters are so willing to share with me.  FM has also caught me a number of times on the coffee table in the living room.  Seriously, that is not even a challenge to get on because it is so low!  And I like to sit in chairs too.  Check out this picture of me. The chair fits me just fine.

FM had a hard time getting me to eat much the first week as I seemed to be a somewhat picky eater, even with canned dog food.  But alas, there could have been a reason for my lower appetite, as I came into heat last Thursday night!  I also started to show some nesting behaviors too.  Well, that is not an issue now because I was spayed on Monday morning.

I had a rough night Monday and into Tuesday and did not want to eat anything or drink any water.  FM was giving me water in a baby syringe, which I ended up liking a lot (or maybe because I got to lay on her lap on the floor while she fed it too me.)  She finally coaxed me to eat a little food too Tuesday mid morning (with my fostersisters standing there putting the pressure on, of course.)  Then I was able to take some pain meds.  A few hours later I started to perk up and regained my thirst and a little appetite.  Now it is Wednesday and I am eating much better.  Though I only eat a little in the early morning and finish it before lunch.  I do not win the clean plate award, but come back when I am hungry.

Right now, I am having to spend more time in the crate relaxing so I don't pull out any stitches.  If I was out, I'd be wrestling with Lilly too much. But, I do get to go for short walks before work, at lunch, and after work so that helps.  Oh, it is going to be a long 10-14 days of leash restrictions!  FM even took us all for a drive this evening for a change of scenery in the nice cooler weather.  We all enjoyed that VERY much.

Here's my happy face picture to show you how much fun the outing was.

I did get to go to one of FM's former foster's house to be cat tested.  I did really well with him.  I didn't even try to chase the guy but was curious for a sniff or two.  Then I got distracted with all of the other good smells in the house.  I think that makes me cat approved!

Well, that brings you up-to-date on me.  I'll write more when I get time.
