Bailey 11-234

Profile

October 3, 2011

Bailey was adopted in August and returned to RAGOM in September.  Her adoptive mother quickly realized that Bailey's needs for exercise were more than she could provide, and Bailey's energy level is too high for being around her young grandchildren.  Bailey had been with her original owner for almost 5 years, but was given up to RAGOM because the owner travels too much to provide what Bailey needs.

Bailey has been with us, as fosters, for one week now.  We have two resident golden retrievers, and when the three met there was hardly any reaction.  Bailey just fit right into the pack without a blink.  She gets along with everybody, kids, dogs, adults, but apparently not cats (info from previous foster).  We took her to our church's 'Blessing of the Animals' service this morning, where approximately 100 people, 20 dogs, and one goat were in attendance.  Bailey had no trouble at all being there.  She was calm and personable with all.

Bailey is a healthy, strong female purebred golden retriever who just turned 5 years old.  It appears she was well cared for before coming into RAGOM’s care.  She has round dark auburn eyes and a beautiful coat of long, soft curly fur.  She weighs 73 pounds, so she is a larger golden, but not huge (approximately 27 inches at her shoulders).

Bailey has a lot of energy and a medium-high prey drive, which means she must receive an opportunity for vigorous exercise every day, not just let out in the backyard, and not just a daily walk around the neighborhood.  She needs the exercise to help her be calm and well-mannered.

She also needs fairly constant companionship, preferably another dog to play with, and family members who are only gone for part of the day.  She is not a velcro dog, but does like to be in the same room with you and seek out a pet and hug once in awhile.  She is fairly independent and secure, and likes routine.

Here are photos of Bailey when she first arrived at our home and was checking out the backyard and fence and squirrels.  In the last photo, she is the dog closest to the camera, and is taking a nap with her two foster brothers.

Contact your placement advisor, if you are interested in Bailey.  She is a beautiful dog who needs a family committed to giving her fairly constant companionship and vigorous daily exercise.

Update on Bailey who is now 11. She came along with us on our 40th anniversary trip to Orcas Island off the coast of Washington.  A 4,100 mile road trip. She is a great traveler and companion.

Thank you RAGOM, and all the people who made this adoption possible, especially her fosters John and Joan. We can tell that Bailey has had lots of love. We feel so blessed to have found her to be a part of our family. We knew Bailey felt at home when we started to see a little bit of naughtiness. Bailey is teaching us to clean up the kitchen right away and not leave dishes in the sink, make sure the garbage is securely locked up, and get plenty of exercise. We are teaching her to ride in the back seat of the car, stay off of the living room furniture, and share the bed. Bailey loves to go to work with Mom, run on the golf course with Dad, meet and greet everyone she sees, play with her ball, chase squirrels, and play in the snow. She has enjoyed visiting grandma and grandpa at the lake. She was so excited to have one of our grandsons, along with our son and daughter-in-law, come to visit over Thanksgiving. Things settled down and we had a wonderful week-end together. We are looking forward to having her meet our other grandsons, son, and daughter-in-law, as well as the rest of our families from out of state. We have a few things to work on, but she is a smart, sweet girl who has found her forever home. When we see the smile on her face and her tail wagging in circles, we know that Bailey is enjoying the Golden Life!
