Piper (Coal 11-207)

Profile

Introducing Coal!  She is our newest house guest of 2 whole days so far.

She's a 5 month old golden retriever/black lab mix.  Coal was rescued from a neglectful situation in Iowa, but is now safe in the arms of RAGOM.

At her first vet visit yesterday, she weighed in at 23 pounds.  She's a bit thin but we're feeding her a quality puppy food to make sure she gets the nutrition she needs.

Coal came to us covered with fleas!  Yucky!  There must have been hundreds of them!  She was treated at the vet with an oral flea medication and given an at home topical product, so we should now be rid of them.  Let's cross our paws!

Coal is an absolute sweetheart.  She's my little shadow, following me everywhere.  She likes to cuddle in my lap any time I sit down.  She really likes to take walks and is curious and playful,  just as a puppy should be.

At night time, she sleeps in a crate in our bedroom and now sleeps quietly all night.  She cried in the crate for 2-3 minutes the first night, but now settles nicely.  She is also crated during our workday.  I don't believe she's housebroken, but she hasn't had any accidents in the house yet.  We're mindful to take her out often.  She keeps her crate clean without any problem.

Coal needs obedience training.  I have noticed that she is starting to guard her toys and her food from our resident dog.  Like most puppies, she jumps up on people and is mouthy.  She will need her forever home to be committed to positive, motivational training to help her learn manners and to share.   I believe she will be easy to train.  She's food motivated and pays close attention to me.

We are currently working on getting her an appointment to be spayed and she will be available for adoption after that.

Updates

It is with a heavy heart and disbelief, that I find myself writing Piper's final update.

This past Thursday, we helped her cross the rainbow bridge.  She was healthy one day, then over 7 days spiraled downward with a probable brain tumor. Our hearts are broken and there is an emptiness, with the sudden loss.

She was an amazing dog.  So kind, gentle, loving, devoted and funny. We had a bond with her, that we have not had with another pet. Even my "farmer" husband, finally experienced this special relationship and love with Piper.

We are so grateful, for the time we had, and this is a reminder, not to take things for granted.

Thank you RAGOM, for rescuing  these amazing dogs. Thank you for trusting us to love and care for Piper.  RIP Sweet love.........

I cannot believe it has been 2 years since this bundle of sweetness joined our family. She has been so much fun!! She loves to chase butterflies and birdies, carry big sticks, run through wet grass, and every mud puddle she can find. As wild and active as she can be, when it is time to snuggle.....she is a champion. She loved the snow, this year, but not the snowballs that would collect on her fur. For xmas, she got a red body suit and boots. She wasn't too sure at first, but didn't slow her down, at all. She has become a treasured member of our pack. Thank you, Ragom, for your devotion to these wonderful dogs.....

Dear Friends! Today marks one year since Piper joined our family. We cannot imagine our days without her!  She is such a funny girl.  She loves to chase butterflies, carry sticks that are many times bigger than she is and run through the wet grass and mud puddles. As active as she is, she can snuggle...and loves that time. She has found her forever home and again, we shout out a big 'THANK YOU', to Ragom for rescuing these wonderful dogs.

From Piper's (formerly known as Coal) forever family...

Just sending an update on Piper. She has been with us since 7/16 and has made herself at home. When I decided to adopt another dog, I was not looking for a puppy. When I saw her beautiful eyes, I was so drawn to her. After meeting her, the deal was done. She has such a sweet, playful and respectful personality. The transition has been so easy, it is almost as if she has been here before. I have always felt, the dogs that shared our lives, have found us, and with Piper, this is most certainly the case. We are working on retrieving tennis balls, but she is more interested in running away with the chuck-it, than getting the ball! We love her and will keep her safe and healthy. Thank you, RAGOM, for your unfailing devotion to these wonderful dogs!

Hello everyone! Here's big kisses to you from Coal: XXXX! Coal likes to give kisses.

We just wanted to take a minute to share more pictures of her. She is such a happy girl and we are enjoying her company very much. We think she is beautiful and funny. Just like the saying goes, "Whoever said you can't buy happiness forgot about puppies!". She has been our sunshine in this rainy weather.
