Meet Miss Trixie 11-205. She is what could be properly described as a small (toy) Retriever. She was found as a stray having to fend for herself during the flooding in Sioux City, IA. She was given the birth date of June 13, 2004 because she was estimated by a RAGOM Vet and staff to be 7 years old. She is a Golden Retriever/Cocker mix who is 26.5 lbs. and very petite. She measures from her head to the floor, 20”, from her back to the floor, 17”, and is 24” from her nose to her butt. She has the ears, legs, feet and tail of a Golden Retriever and a Cocker face and eyes. She is a medium golden color with a beige/white face and a beige/white freckled underside like the colors of a party Cocker.

Her long Retriever-like hair was so dirty and matted when she was taken in by a small rescue that they had to shave her whole body, including her ears to clean her up. When her hair and feathers are grown in again her underside colors should be very insignificant. She is a very good-looking dog who is very happy and well-behaved.

Trixie came to us already spayed, with a year rabies vaccination and UTD on shots. She has been micro-chipped, is on heartworm medication, is front-lined and has an ear cleanser and medication for an ear infection in both ears. She also has a stage 2 heart murmur which was determined by a Vet in IA. She has no parasites or worms.

She came to us potty-trained and knows how to sit up for food and treats which is a delightful sight. She has been with us for 3 days and has not stolen, chewed or destroyed anything in the house. She enjoys rubber squeaky toys and is very playful. She lets you know when she has to go out by yipping or going to the door when you ask her if she has to go potty. She is very energetic and can twirl around jumping waist high before coming back down to the floor as another indication she wants to go out. She is used to going out on a leash or a tie-out.

It was so surprising to see her size after viewing the before and after pictures of her taken at the time of her shaving which were sent to us by intake. Her new hair is expected to grow back to at least fluffy in a couple of months. She loves to go outside and has retriever tendencies. She had been with us only about 2 hours when on a leash, she sniffed out and caught a baby rabbit in our front bushes. She is nervous during car rides and we are working on correcting it. She pulls on a flat leash and it is difficult to put a gentle leader on her because she is so small. With continued walks we expect her to overcome that too. We believe she was used to being on furniture in her past but she does not get on the furniture in this house. If she tries, when she is told OFF, she gets down immediately.

She is very friendly, loves people and gets along very well with other dogs. It is unknown how she is toward children and cats but we believe she should be in a home, perhaps with a retired couple or a family with older children because of her size. She is crate-trained according to the rescue in IA which contacted RAGOM about her. She has not been left alone by us but if she were, we believe she could be left in a crate about 4 hours. She sleeps all night on a doggie bed in the master bedroom and has since she came to be with us.

WOW………… am I a happy girl. I told you I would keep you posted on the progress of my adoption. Well the people that were interested in me came over to my foster home on Saturday afternoon. There was the Dad and Mom and their 2 boys. They also brought their girl fur butt along. What a wonderful visit. As they were getting ready to leave I heard them tell my foster mom and dad that they really liked me and were very interested. They were going home to think about it and call my foster parents on Sunday. I was so excited and happy that I had a great nights sleep. I even have a picture taken of me while I was sleeping. Today, Sunday they called and said they wanted me to join their family. My foster parents agreed. I am going to have new Dad (Hans) and Mom (Melissa), two new brothers, Taylor and Zac, and a new fur butt sister, Heaven. I am really a happy and lucky girl.

Hi Trixie 11-205 here. I want to tell you more about me. I am the original Snoopy Sniffer. My nose is always to the ground and I have caught 2 small animals in the week I have been here. If you have any mice in your house, I’m your girl. I think they call that a strong prey drive. Cats are kind of uncertain for me. My FP’s have learned I really like vegetables like tomatoes, lettuce, raw carrots and celery. I eat dry kibble for breakfast and dinner but I love snacks of vegetables, small treats and denta-bones. I sit up very nicely for them. I’d like to eat from the table too, but I am not allowed.

I love squeaky toys, soft ones and rubber ones. I play with both kinds and chase them when they are thrown for me. My FM walks me daily and trains me to sit, stay, heel and down on the very long deck they have. I do pretty well with sit and stay but heeling still needs work. I don’t like to go down and I don’t do that very well yet either. I can be easily distracted because I love to watch for all the small animals around while I’m on the screen porch where the deck is.

I have the complete run of both of FP’s homes, one in the city and one is a summer place with lots of things for me to do. At night, when I go to bed, I start out on a doggie bed in the master bedroom but after my FP’s go to sleep, I sneak out and get up on whatever my favorite piece of furniture is at that time. I like them all, chairs and couches. But when I’m caught, I’m told to get down and I’m such a good girl, I obey immediately.

I met a very big Golden named Tucker (about 85 lbs.) last weekend. I wanted to be close to him all day. We had a very good time but I liked him better than he liked me. It was like the meeting of Mutt and Jeff. I am looking very forward to meeting a new family interested in looking at me for adoption next Saturday. They have another furr-butt too and I think I’ll like her just like I have all the other dogs I have met. Wish me luck. I’ll let you know how it turns out. Trixie 11-205 signing out.
