Anika is a 6 or 7 yr-old spayed PB Golden Retriever. She weighs 54 lbs which is a good weight for her. She came into RAGOM from Animal Control as a stray so we don’t know her exact age. She is not a runner so she must have just wandered off or was dropped off. She was extremely nervous in the car and sang to me for the full 45 minute ride home. She has the distinguished white face and after a well needed bath and grooming session, her reddish-golden fluffy fur glistens in the sunshine. She had an infected ear when we got her and after a week of ear drops, she will now let us rub her ears. She is microchipped and UTD on her shots. She has 3 fatty lumps along her side that the Vet said is very common and nothing to worry about. The Vet said her teeth look really good.

Needless to say, Anika does NOT answer to this name that the shelter gave to her. We have gone down the list of other RAGOM dogs and the name that we got a bit of a response to was Jessie. So, we are teaching her to come by calling Jessie. She settled down when she met our 2 resident goldens and got right into our routine. For the first few days we blocked all 3 dogs in the kitchen and everything was fine when we came home. Now after a week she has the run of our house while we are at work. From day one Anika / Jessie showed no signs of aggression or resource guarding. At first she took treats pretty fast and rough, but we let her know that it hurt so she has become gentler. She isn’t a big fan of rawhide bones but loves stuffed toys. She just chews on them without destuffing them. Anika / Jessie knows what a leash is and gets so excited to go on a walk! She loves getting attention and just wants to be by us. Over the weekend she met our 4 and 6 year old grandsons and loved them… more hands for petting her!!

Anika / Jessie knows some commands like Sit, Come, No, Go for a walk, Go outside, and Go potty. She doesn’t get onto living room furniture and sleeps on the floor beside our bed every night without a peep. She sometimes starts out on the bed, but is usually on the floor by morning.
