Welcome Puppy! What a handsome, sweet boy! Puppy was surrendered to RAGOM from the Animal Control of Princeton, MN. He was found as a city stray on 3/26/11 and held for 8 days. On the 8th day no one had come to get Puppy and he was schedule to be "put in the back" that afternoon due to over crowding. RAGOM rescued him that afternoon and allowed Puppy to be held in boarding that weekend until our family could pick him up. Puppy has been with our family since Monday, 4/4/11. Since Puppy was found as a stray the 2 Vets he visited can only estimate his age. They believe he is between 8-9 years old. He is also neutered and UTD on all his vaccinations. Puppy weighed in at 43 pounds on 3/26/11. His weight was a big concern as they estimated him to be 20-30 pounds underweight. During his 8 day stay at AC he gained 8 pounds. The first week at our home he gained another 5 pounds and today he weighed in at 61 pounds. YEAH! Puppy is in great health and still loves to eat. We do 4 small feedings a day to make sure his stomach doesn't hurt. The ideal weight for Puppys frame is 70. He hasn't had any trouble adjusting to his new dog food or treats:) At first we were careful with too much exercise but now we do 4 walks a day. He loves to be outside and go on walks. He is a great walker. We use a retractable leash and he doesn't pull or walk too far ahead. He also doesn't have a prey drive that you lose an arm if he sees a squirrel or bird. Another exercise he loves is swimming. He was the first dog in the lake last week when the ice melted on Prior Lake.
Now on to the good stuff about Puppy. Puppy is the name he answers to best. Since he was a stray we just tried all common dog names and that seems to get the most attention and tail wagging. He is a true gentlemen. So sweet and well behaved. Puppy is always at my side or following me around. He has been in our home for 18 days now. He immediately took to our resident dog (male age 2). He absolutely loves our 2 girls ages 10 and 12. I would say my husband seems to be his favorite. Puppy has also been playing with friends that have been at the house- some of them children as young as 3. I was also amazed at how well he listens. He comes when you call his name(which is amazing since it was unknown 2 weeks ago), sits and lays down on command. Also, can hand shake and speak for a treat. Puppy is also house trained with free roam of our home(we did use a baby gate the first 2 days and he respected that, no whining or jumping). As soon as he comes in the house from doing his business he runs right for the treat jar. Smart boy:)
Puppy was definitely part of a family before he became a stray. With his gentleness, good listening, house training and I'm sure he has had obedience (he is amazing on a leash). He is a LOW MAINTENANCE dog. And loves to be groomed. He got lots of compliments at the Paw Spa last week and I brush him daily. One thing we need to work on more is his barking when we eat. He is a beggar for food and is curious about whats on the counter. But I'm not too hard on him since he was starving for months. He is so smart that by the time he finds his forever family I'm sure I will have this corrected.
Puppy does ride great in the car. He sometimes tries to drive:) We have left him alone for up to 5 hours with free roam.
Puppy is such a lover and gentle boy. I've received emails from the rescue team checking up on him. He really left a warm spot in their hearts.
