Tucker 11-113

Profile

Meet Tucker, a handsome guy who weighs 65 lbs, is about 18 months old, loves people, gets along with other dogs and cats, but sadly had to leave his home due to his taste for chickens.  Tucker grew up on a farm and until he came to RAGOM never wore a collar or was on a leash, he was a free spirit.  Because Tucker developed his liking for the neighbors chickens, his owner decided he needed to find a new safe home.  He loved Tucker and wanted what was best for him.  Lucky for Tucker his owner talked with Miss J who in turn talked to her cousin Miss A who knew about RAGOM.  Miss A and hubby brought Tucker to me last Thursday evening.  They had bought him a new collar and leash, bathed him, brushed him and cut out mats and fed him.  He had never been in a house or car before and suddenly in one day he was all over the place.

Tucker met resident Jax, the Cocker, Callie, foster Cavalier, Katie, GR guest, and then one of our cats, Bailey.  Usually the dogs dislike Bailey and run after him, but Tucker was fine with him and Bailey liked him too.  Whew.  So Tucker met everyone with  nary a growl, from guest to resident.  We walked around on lead and he never lifted his leg.  Too good to be true.  I was exhausted and poor Tucker was confused.  So off we went to bed, yep he slept in the bedroom with the rest of the troops.  As I look back on it now I am not sure what I was thinking, but we made it through the night without an accident.

The next few days Tucker made himself at home.  Luckily we have a fenced in area so he has not had to be on a tie out, and I don't think he'd ever be happy on one.  I did find out that just cuz he doesn't pee in the house doesn't mean he won't do #2!!!  He will go outside and do his business when he is out, but we can't figure out the sign for "I gotta go poop"!!!  He wears a belly band at night and though not happy with it, it gives me peace of mind.  The rest of the time when in the house with us he is 'au natural'.

Tucker has discovered toys, balls, stuffed animals, chew bones, tennis balls, and takes treats nicely.  He played tug with Callie today.  They have spent most of the week end out doors on the deck and in the yard enjoying the nice days.  He was to the vet on Friday and received his shots, was tested for Heartworm, negative, but positive for Lymes and Anaplasmosis and is being treated with doxy for a month.  He fecal came back negative on all counts.  He has beautiful pearly whites and a gorgeous coat of reddish blonde with a big head and feet.

The only negative of sorts is that when he has a ball he will get growly with the other dogs and they back off.  I can take his ball, toys or food and he doesn't mind.  If he sees you put a ball up somewhere he will try to get it, and I mean that includes trying to climb the fridge:)  We hide them when he is out of sight.  He likes to check out the counters and table cuz there's stuff to check out.  He thus far will not kennel so he is gated in the kitchen with the troops while we are gone at work or out.  I thought he might try to jump or knock the gates down, but seems to be happy with the troops.  My husband walked him in the field and said he is pretty good, but if he decides he wants to go one way he can pull.  We will have to try the gentle leader.  He sleeps on the bed half the night and then hits the floor.  His 'pp pad' has been dry every morning.  Considering he was an outside dog, when he goes out he immediately turns around and stares in the slider window, like he is afraid I won't let him back in.

This young man is healthy, (we don't look for any complications from the lymes and anaplasmosis) handsome, can be an only dog, or a buddy to another one (he did live with an older dog), I think he'd do fine with bigger kids, needs exercise, and sooooo needs obedience school for the bonding and the learning.  He will be neutered tomorrow and after that will be available for his forever home.  Due to the fact he has grown up 'free' Tucker will not go to a home that would have to tie him out, it would break his heart.  He would make a great running partner with training.

I am grateful that Tucker's owner loved him enough to let him come to RAGOM.  And a big thank you to Jeanette, Amy and Jim for getting him to me.  I was only going to over night him til a tranport was arranged, but by morning I knew there was no way I could let Tucker go into boarding.  So until he finds his forever home, he will be part of our family.

Just a reminder that we can always use transporters and foster homes.  People say they could never give up their foster, but truth is, when you find the right home you let them go knowing there will be another one to take his/her place....that's the sad part.  There will always be another one waiting to come into RAGOM, and many times they end up in boarding because we don't have enough foster homes.  So if ever you thought about volunteering, check it out now.

Will check in after the neutering and let ya all know how Tucker Fella is doing.

Updates

Everyone must have thought foster mom forgot to finish my update, but she didn't. I went home with my new Dad, but then we found out his foot surgery could be moved up. So I came back to stay with my foster family so as to not get confused by going to my new home for a few days and then coming back.

But tomorrow, Tuesday, I will be heading 'home' for good. My Dad is coming to get me, but my foster mom and Jax will be gone, they leave for Canada today. I suppose I will be a bit confused, but I know I have a great Dad and I will settle in and down in a few days.

Did FM tell you I will be an only 'kid' and get all the attention? Yep, it's gonna be all about me, just the way it should be LOL I will go for a lot of walks, and there are places I can run, and in the winter we will go to Texas, no more outdoor MN weather for me.

Tucker and Dad with big smiles

I heard my FM tell my new Dad she can't see me for a few months cuz I have to bond and adjust to my new family and life. I think I might be a little sad, but my Dad told me in time he will bring me back to see FM/D, Jax and the kitties. They just won't be as important to me by then.

Well, now you got the story and the pics, and even though FM is crying, she said she is happy for me. She's just sad cuz Callie the Cav has been adopted and we will both be gone when she gets back from Canada:( But she'll find someone new to love.

Happy Memorial Day and week end. And remember this is about remembering those that serve, have served and those who are no longer with us. Buy a poppy.

Hugs and kisses,
Tucker(man)

Update on Tucker(man).  He is doing GREAT.  We have had no accidents in the house for over a week.  He is has been left with the troops for up to 8 hours on a work day.  We have Lake, the neighbor lab, here this week end and the 2 of them have played themselves out running, jumping off the deck, wrestling etc.  First time Tucker has not been wanting to play before bed, he's shot.

I discovered Tuck loves the tennis ball..........in the water, along with his front paws.  On one of the nice days he dropped his ball in the water and proceeded to entertain himself for the next 20 minutes.  I think he's gonna love the lake.  We are working on 'giving' the ball up, work in progress.  Actually everything is a work in progress cuz he's a pupper.  He so wants to please and when he does please you and praise him he just shines.

I sat the other day with Tucker,  rubbing my hands fronm his snout up the side of his face to his ears.  He sat so still and just looked up in his own little world.  While I know he was loved and enjoyed his days of running free, I know he loves the indoor life and his contact with us humans.  It's just so amazing to watch his expression change as you caress him.  I look into his eyes and he looks back at me and I think, how can anyone treat these creatures with anything but love and respect?

Tucker is not perfect in our human definition, he is a bit of a toddler learning, a work in progress, but any one who meets him comments on his beauty, his coat, his eyes......he is all that and more.  He is very smart and with training will be the best of the best.  I think he would like another fur butt in his family, or neighbor fur butts.  He is active and needs an active family, someone who likes to walk or run, play dates and some one who will play ball with him.  He can get snarky and growly but a quick no has been enough.  He did have one big tussle with Katie last night over a toy that has been laying around his entire stay.  For whatever reason, Katie wasn't going to give it up and Tucker wasn't going to walk away.  I'm not sure who started it, but they went at it.  He did nail Katie's ear, and so while he's learning he needs to be watched.  The toy has been removed as I don't want issues while they spend the work day togeather.

So Tucker(man) comes with his beautry and his warts...............just like we all do.  If you are ready to be unconditionally loved and adored, are ready for an active dog, and have the time to work with him and go to obedience class, just let your placement advisor know  you want to meet Tucker.

Hi Tucker here. Since FM has been in her own little world preparing for her tiny human (grandson) to come to MN from someplace called TX, she has been in her own little world. Once he got here they had a party for this little mini person, called a baby shower I think. Lucky for us kidz it was beautiful out and we spent the day outside enjoying the sun and toys. I did check out the mini human, sniffed and licked but not very interesting. His head bobbled around and his legs and arms moved like he was trying to run some where. Oh well, FM and FD loved him as did Jax. But they are gone and we are back to normal.

I have forgiven FM for taking me to a place that took my manhood. Seriously, no one asked me if I wanted to ever be a father, but guess I'm ok with it all. I'm feeling great. Am all up to date on my shots and have been micro chipped. I was not happy about waking up in a cage and whinned til they took me out to a big kennel. Sure was glad when FM came, so happy I didn't hesitate to jump right in the van.

Good to be home. Got my buddies, tennis balls, toys, my own food dish, the couch (when Katie's not hogging it) and back to laying on FM in bed til I'm sure she's warm enough and then I hit the floor. FD has been taking us out for walks in the field. I have to be on a long lead, which I'm not sure why cuz there aren't any chickens around.

I have had no accidents in over a week. Seems FM has decided if she takes me out and tells me "Tucker go potty, good boy Tucker, go potty outside Tucker" and then gives me a treat I'll learn faster. Oh wait, I guess I am. I am still baby gated on the main floor with the troops and doing just fine. FM says I act like a puppy in a big boys body...well at 18 to 20 months guess I am.

Everyone who came to visit the mini person said I was so handsome, what a beautiful head I had and a soft coat. But agreed I was in serious need of learning some manners so as to not jump up, counter surf, learn to wait for my food and not try to snatch the other's guy's treat outta FM's hand. Hey, I'm trying.

I still pretty much ignore the cats, play tug with Callie the Cav, a little chase with old Katie, and Jax and I have a love/hate thing going on. We can play one minute and then get snarky with one another the next. All FM has to say is NO and I settle down. I am kinda mouthy and pushy, but with some training I'll be wonderful.

There are 3 of us 'Tuckers' on the site, so remember when you ask for me, ask for me by name TUCKER and number 11-113. I'm ready to head for my furever home and show you how much you can be loved. I will need obedience, no doubt about it, but I'm smart and a quick learner over all. So how about you give your placement advisor a call and let's talk. I have some opening on my calendar:)
