Lovey 11-107

Profile

Ohhh, Look-it Lovey!Call out my name and I come really wagging my tail.

I had such a long ride to my FP’s house and my FM says I can tell you about me. Thank you transport team, Dennis and Joanne McCarl and Jennifer Johnson for being so generous and bringing me safely to my foster home. I’ll be forever grateful.

I’m a 6 yr. old, 65 lb., PB Golden Girl. I was a momma breeder on a farm in ND but now I’m staying where they have no other dogs but me. Another fur-butt named Abby used to live here cause I can smell her in the spots where I like to lie down. I know that Golden smell so I know I’m safe in this house and I can relax. I have lived my whole life outdoors so I have to learn all new habits and get used to inside sounds I have never heard before. It’s my 4th day here and I’m learning how to be potty trained, what a gentle leader and leash are, how to go on walks and when I get to eat. I am very happy around all adults that come up to me. I haven’t met any kids yet but there a couple of small pesky little bugger fur-butts, both Cavalier-Poo boys, that live next door. They came into MY yard and got right in MY face really barking at me but I stayed above it all and just looked at them. I was a real lady. Finally they gave up and just smelled me.

I have been a very good girl and not shown any kind of aggressions since I have been here. I take treats and food very gently and my FP’s can take things away with not so much as a yip. The SO said I don’t get along with other female dogs except my sisters, but I have to meet some new girls to find out how I act toward them. I sleep all night on a doggie bed right next to my FM’s side of the bed. I have not destroyed one thing since I have been here. I look up to smell things but I do not counter-surf so far. When my FP’s eat dinner I lie right under the table and never even look up to beg for food. That’s pretty good don’t you think? I have not been left alone in the house yet but if I am I will stay in a crate when I am alone for now. I’m really trying cause I like this new golden life and I want it to keep going. I went to the Vet but my FM will tell you about that next.

FM here. Lovey came without Vet records so she has been brought UTD on all shots and now has a Microchip. She has no parasites or worms. We are starting her on Heartgard Plus and also have Frontline for the upcoming tick season. She has a raw nose which we think is the result of rubbing it against a kennel but it is healing and we are watching it carefully. She has a spot on her head which we requested to be looked at and it has been shaved by the Vet to reveal a healing patch of dermatitis. Otherwise her coat is in good condition and is wonderfully soft and silky. She has a scar on the right side of her muzzle and she has a minor heart murmur of 2 on a scale of 1-6 which is not considered a problem by the Vet. She will be spayed on April 21st. She is a very gentle dog aiming to please but still needs training in several things. She wants to be close to her people. If you think you would like to give her a great golden life, please contact your placement advisor and please watch for new updates!

Lovey was spayed April 21st, and is recuperating very nicely. An interesting side-effect since surgery is her willingness on her own to go into and rest in an open crate.

Her head and nose are growing hair again and now it has to begin growing where it was shaved on her leg and underside for surgery. She has such a beautiful thick coat that the Vet thought she had just been groomed. She doesn’t appear to shed much either. All that is left for her is to have a booster shot for DAP and her stitches removed on May 3 so she just needs to finish up with the last follow-up visit with the Vet.

After her surgery and while she was still somewhat groggy she went to the door to be let out to throw up and urinate which tells us she is about 80% potty-trained. She goes out on a leash for potty breaks and can, with time, become accustomed to tie-outs but she is not crazy about them. She definitely has established routines for going outside. She takes her time eating and gets two meals per day about 7:30 A.M. and 5:00 P.M . She begins the day by going outside before eating about 7 A.M. and finishes the day going out around 10-11 P.M.

We don’t have a fenced yard and it isn’t a necessity in a new home but she would probably like it better. She has not been exposed to cats but she does very well with two male neighbor dogs that get very close to her and always bark at her when she is in the yard. She has met up with a couple of smaller female dogs but she pretty much just ignores them even when they bark at her. She is a very quiet girl with selective barking.

She is a bit nervous in car rides but we are getting her more used to them by taking her to and from our summer place about 45 minutes from home. She seems to enjoy the screened porch up there a lot. Before coming here she was for a time in a second home and then taken back by her SO because it was felt she and her litter-mate Mary Ann were not getting proper care. She does have some hand-shyness with hands moving quickly from above but she eases her head very gently into a hand coming up from below her chin. She happily greets all adult humans she has met and we believe she needs a quiet home and a family that has the time to give her the attention and reassurance she needs, possibly with older children in the home too.

She is a sweet, gentle and beautiful girl who is truly a calm companion ready for her forever home. She may be the perfect dog for you so please contact your placement advisor if you would like to meet this wonderful girl.

Lovey continues to be a very affectionate, friendly dog.

Her head is healed and just needs to grow back the hair that was shaved and her nose is looking better every day. Her date of birth is 5-15-05 which will make her 6 yrs. on May 15, 2011. She is a beautiful dog with a medium gold color. She is very calm except for unexpected and unfamiliar sounds that cause her to flinch but that is getting better as curiosity replaces her fears. She does not bark, jump on people, chew things or show any aggression. She does not resource guard anything with humans. She does lift her head up to sniff for food items and she can stand on her back legs but she has not gone near the counters or table for food.

She has been eating well both from the hand and a bowl but we are learning timing might be an issue because she is starting to eat much less heartily. She was used to eating at 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. when she lived with her sister Mary Ann so we are working at gradually shortening up her eating schedule. It just may be she does not like her food so we are going to look into different food for her too.

She seems to prefer stuffed toys that squeak because she will mouth them. She has chased a particular red ball briefly and brought it back to us but she does not run, jump or regularly play with anything. She definitely is a Velcro dog and sleeps or lays in her favorite spots a lot but any sound will immediately awaken her and bring her to attention.

Her potty training is coming along nicely but requires patience because she takes her time with both kinds in good and bad weather. She pulls on the Gentle Leader/Leash but is becoming better at understanding how she is supposed to walk. So far she goes out on a leash but is being gradually introduced to a tie-out.

At this early stage we believe a quiet home with older children and a responsible person at home most of the day would be best for Lovey because she still has some fear of inside noises and needs reassurance. She loves all humans, affection and cuddling but has not been exposed to a lot of other animals (especially not females) and has not been around children. We have taken her to local pet businesses and she did well there but has been on a Leash with a Gentle Leader. She is definitely a gentle animal and would be a great addition to any home with the above qualifications.
