Lovey was spayed April 21st, and is recuperating very nicely. An interesting side-effect since surgery is her willingness on her own to go into and rest in an open crate.
Her head and nose are growing hair again and now it has to begin growing where it was shaved on her leg and underside for surgery. She has such a beautiful thick coat that the Vet thought she had just been groomed. She doesn’t appear to shed much either. All that is left for her is to have a booster shot for DAP and her stitches removed on May 3 so she just needs to finish up with the last follow-up visit with the Vet.
After her surgery and while she was still somewhat groggy she went to the door to be let out to throw up and urinate which tells us she is about 80% potty-trained. She goes out on a leash for potty breaks and can, with time, become accustomed to tie-outs but she is not crazy about them. She definitely has established routines for going outside. She takes her time eating and gets two meals per day about 7:30 A.M. and 5:00 P.M . She begins the day by going outside before eating about 7 A.M. and finishes the day going out around 10-11 P.M.
We don’t have a fenced yard and it isn’t a necessity in a new home but she would probably like it better. She has not been exposed to cats but she does very well with two male neighbor dogs that get very close to her and always bark at her when she is in the yard. She has met up with a couple of smaller female dogs but she pretty much just ignores them even when they bark at her. She is a very quiet girl with selective barking.
She is a bit nervous in car rides but we are getting her more used to them by taking her to and from our summer place about 45 minutes from home. She seems to enjoy the screened porch up there a lot. Before coming here she was for a time in a second home and then taken back by her SO because it was felt she and her litter-mate Mary Ann were not getting proper care. She does have some hand-shyness with hands moving quickly from above but she eases her head very gently into a hand coming up from below her chin. She happily greets all adult humans she has met and we believe she needs a quiet home and a family that has the time to give her the attention and reassurance she needs, possibly with older children in the home too.
She is a sweet, gentle and beautiful girl who is truly a calm companion ready for her forever home. She may be the perfect dog for you so please contact your placement advisor if you would like to meet this wonderful girl.
