Welcome our new boy, Sampson, into RAGOM foster care. Sampson was a stray found in Iowa, turned into a shelter who contacted RAGOM to help him. He’s estimated at about 1-1/2 years old and is a beautiful ebony black. His coat is soft and about 1-1/2 inches long. Most popular guesses on breed mix include Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Lab, and Golden Retriever. He’s a handsome boy with a marvelous temperament.

He gets along very well with the other five dogs in his foster home, big and small. They met and within minutes he and Scooter were play bowing and running around the backyard together. My senior female gave him her normal growl and he respectfully backed away. He met a cat during his transport and was not reactive, which fits the personality I’ve seen. He’s a very non-threatening kind of guy.

He visited the vet on Monday, is now up-to-date on shots, heartworm negative and is scheduled for his neuter on Thursday. He’s very healthy, could afford to gain a few pounds (weighs 63 pounds and probably should weigh 70), and will be ready to be adopted after his neuter surgery.

Sampson is a very nice young dog. He is lying by my feet as I type this. At night, he sleeps in the bedroom with us, during the day he is kenneled part time and does fine in the kennel. He did a little marking when he first came in the house, but that seems to have improved. He hasn’t actually gone to the bathroom in the house, so I’m leaning towards thinking he may be housetrained. Will know better after he’s been here longer.

Sampson loves to go outside, dig his head in the snow and slide along the snow on his side. It is so cute to watch him have so much fun. He hasn’t jumped my fence and with all the snow, I think he could step over it. He comes when called. When he gets excited, he will jump up, but he is quickly learning to put his butt on the floor if he wants to get attention and he does enjoy petting, so the butt hits the floor pretty quickly.

Someone is going to get a very nice new furfriend.

Sampson has been here all weekend and I have learned he is one super dog! He seems to be totally housebroken. He has not had a single accident here nor did he at the Ragom event on Saturday. He is just so nice in all ways. He's very mellow around the house. He doesn't nag my two goldens to play, he doesn't bother the cat either. He is definitely a keeper. If I didn't already do agility one night and obedience another night he'd be staying here. He is also just gorgeous, his photos don't do him justice. He has brown and white his coat that just don't show up in pictures. I have no idea what he is mixed with but it is a good mixture. He has good looks and personality too! I'll admit that he probably doesn't have one drop of golden retriever in him...but he's a super dog nonetheless. Please consider him despite his non-golden appearance.
