Tamarin 10-359

Profile

Hello RAGOM!

My name is Tamarin. My litter mates and I were born on October 18th, 2010, which makes me just under 7 weeks old. My mom was a Golden Retriever and my dad is unknown. I am a sweet little girl who loves to be with my humans and also just to relax and take a nap. I have a lot of fun with my litter mates but I am not much for wrestling. I would love to find a forever home, but will need to stick around my litter mates for a little bit longer.

Foster dad took me to the vet and I have been de-wormed and had my first injections. I have not been scheduled to be spayed so that will have to happen before I can go to my forever family. So if you are ready to have a little Tamarin love in your home for Christmas please contact your placement advisor. Although I cannot leave my litter until 12/13 or go to my forever home until I am spayed, my foster home is ready for me to meet applicants.

Here's a pic of my litter mates and me in our favorite puppy pile position!

Updates

Hi Everyone, Tamarin had her spay surgery last Tuesday (a week ago) and has been doing so well. She doesn't lick at her incision at all so she has steered clear of the dreaded "cone of doom"! She is very responsive to the word No now but she still likes to drag out the mittens, socks, and shoes when you're not looking. Usually, if it's too quiet downstairs, I know I'd better take a peek and see what she's up to!

Tamarin has been letting us know she has to go potty by sitting at the door or pacing and if you don't let her out, she will whine to let you know she's not kidding! What a good girl! Tamarin gets hiccups several times a day and sometimes it is brought on by eating and sometimes by being picked up, or just playing. She doesn't get them quite as often now as she did when she first arrived so I think she is just growing up.

As you can see in the pictures, she and Dakota love to play together. Tamarin thinks she's a big dog and tries to play like one. But, she's a girl after my own heart...she likes bubble baths! When I run the tub, she will run to the tub and look in - she likes to bite the bubbles! Sometimes, I let her come in with me and she gets a little swim time in. Cute bubble girl!

Tamarin says "Stay warm out there! It's cold outside!"

Hi Everyone,

Little Tamarin is just thriving and growing like a weed! I don't know how much she has grown in the past 3 weeks since we've had her but I can tell you that she is definitely heavier and she doesn't fit on my lap like she used to. Tamarin has been working very hard at potty training and is doing well. We trust her enough for about an hour or 2 at a time with free-roam before she needs to go out for potty. She won't always tell you she needs to go out but she does give the tell-tale signal of sniffing around in circles for a place to squat. I have been working on getting her used to the words "go potty" when we let her out and she seems to know what to do. The older dogs help to motivate her to go as well during these cold winter days since she isn't always thrilled with the weather.

Tamarin has bonded very well with our resident Dakota and they play and wrestle for house sometimes. Sometimes, she needs a reminder that it is time to relax and give everyone a break. Tamarin has been working on simple commands of come, sit, and stay. We need a lot more work on those but she's trying. Being an excitable puppy, Tamarin is not that interested in "come". But, on cold nights when she goes out to potty, she is much more welcome to entertain the idea! We've also started a little leash training. It will take some time for her to get used to the leash without pulling back. Usually, she will just sit and look at you and no amount of calling her will help. In those instances, we play for a second or I run so she will be enticed to follow.

Tamarin is now getting her 2 meals a day and skipping her lunch. She has been getting a little canned food in addition to her dry since she has decided that dry food is boring. But, she will also eat only until she's full and no more. So, that's a good sign that she isn't going to be a glutton! She has no food issues or guarding problems with food or toys. She is comfortable with being touched while eating and having her food taken away. One thing she's not pleased about is having her toenails clipped. We clipped them once when she was only 8 weeks and I clipped them again last week. She now is starting to really protest on the clippings so last time, I only got 1 of 4 paws done. I hate to traumatize her so I'm trying to do it in small bits. Hopefully she will learn to tolerate it.

Here's a pic of my 2 angels spending some quiet time together.

Please call your placement advisor if you'd like to meet this little bundle of energy and love.

Tamarin just continues to grow and please us.  She is now 10 weeks old and potty training is starting to really take effect! She keeps her crate dry at night and during the day, she now has relatively free roam of the main living room area with frequent potty breaks to ward off accidents. But, rather than peeing every 15 minutes like she did 2 weeks ago, she now seems to hold herself until we let her outside-usually about once every hour or so and right after naps. Then, she runs over to her potty spot and goes right away. I am so pleased with her progress..makes being with her much more enjoyable knowing we don't need to clean up constantly!

Her little personality has really come out and with the training over the past 2 weeks, she now knows how to play appropriately with her people.  She and our resident dog Dakota have now begun wrestling in earnest and they both really enjoy that. Dakota has become very tolerant of Tamarin sitting on her head and biting at her face. They will both growl and bark at each other and I just love watching that.

Tamarin also has learned to just relax and lay quietly with her people when everyone else is quiet.  She's learning her social cues and everyone is appreciative of that! On occasion, she will come into the bath with me and she seems to love playing with the bubbles. Then, when she's out, she goes tearing around the bathroom like a Tasmanian Devil! I don't know why dogs get so rambunctious after a bath but they all do!

I've also started working on simple commands with her - come, sit, and stay. She is very treat motivated and though we keep the sessions short, she does seem to respond a little. Tamarin will be spayed on Jan 11th.  She doesn't know it yet but it probably won't slow her down for long. Once she has been spayed, she will be available for adoption.

Here is a photo of one of Tamarin's quiet moments while she decided to lay on my butt while we were watching TV. She's a snuggler. If you're a snuggler too, perhaps you'd like to meet Tamarin.  Contact your placement advisor to set up a meeting.

Happy New Year!

It has been a little while since the last update but with the holidays and work, things have been a little busy around here.  Nonetheless, Tamarin has been adjusting to her new digs here and we have learned so much more about her.  Tamarin is now going on 10 weeks of age and I think that she will be smaller than a golden but I see signs of little feathers developing on her hind legs so she may have some of the golden coat.

First of all, this little gal is no dainty flower when it comes to playtime.  She loves to play hard…a little too hard.  She is all teeth and when she first came to us, she would spend every opportunity trying to grab onto shirts, pants legs, arms, and nip at noses.  But, over the past week, we have been teaching her how to play in a more appropriate way.  She has become much easier to play with and we don’t come away all bloodied!  Needless to say, Tamarin has learned the word “no” and responds to it fairly well.  When our older dogs start playing with each other, Tamarin will sit on the sideline and bark at them as if to cheer them on.  She has started trying to join in but isn’t quite ready for the big leagues just yet.  Her time outside is somewhat limited as she gets cold and shivers after a while.

She has also been learning the ways of the older dogs when it comes to potty time.  We still have many accidents in the house but as her body grows, her bladder won’t need to be emptied every 30 minutes!  Tamarin has been enjoying playing in the snow with us this past week and loves to go on walks with me and our dog Dakota.  It is apparent that she has inherited the golden gene of wanting to be close to her people since she will always stay close to me when we’re outside and if I am cooking in the kitchen, she will lay on top of my feet.

Naptime is my favorite with her as I love to snuggle a quiet puppy.  She generally sleeps in the kitchen at night but on occasion, I have taken her for a nap with me on the bed and she is an excellent napper!  She snuggles her little head right in the crook of your neck and dozes off.  Like I said, she loves being with her people.

I think that Tamarin will make an excellent dog for someone who wants a companion - she has so much love to give.  She will also need lots of exercise and attention as she is not one to sit and watch the world go by.  If you would like to meet little Tamarin, please contact your placement advisor.  At this time, Tamarin does not need anything special in her forever home but she would probably enjoy having other dogs or children around.  She’s not afraid of anything!
