October 24th - Say hello to one of the newest members of the RAGOM family.  Sam is a 7 year old bundle of love and affection.  He matches the golden breed standard for temperament perfectly.  He is one of those smiling, cuddling boys that everybody wants for a best friend.

Sam was given to RAGOM by a family that no longer had time for him.  After meeting Sam, I can guarantee that this was not an easy decision for the family as this boy was well raised and shown nothing but love.  I will make sure that Sam finds a new home that will show him that same love again.

Sam's assets so far:  In Sam's first home, he lived with kids, cats and another dog.  He is an accomplished snuggler.  Sam also gives great hugs, and kisses you just right.  He has a wonderful sense of humor and a great energy level.  And oh that face!  Who doesn't love the white mask on a golden?!

Sam's liabilities so far:  According to his surrendering family, Sam is not allowed on the furniture.  Hmm.  Now I don't mind for one minute that Sam wants to sit on the couch and snuggle while we watch TV, but we did have a little trouble with this lovely gentleman last night.  See Sam likes to jump into bed with us, and there really isn't that much extra room for him.  Once he plops himself down on the bed, he doesn't want to give up such a warm, comfortable sleeping spot.  We will work on this, but please be aware that you may be adopting a high powered bed warmer in Sam.  Winter is on its way!

More updates to come.  If you have already fallen in love with Sam, as we have, please contact your placement advisor.  Sam would love to meet you.

Sam has switched foster homes. He is now living in St. Paul. He met the three dogs, two resident goldens and one visiting standard poodle, with zero issues. He is settling in. So far he hasn't met the cat. He's seen the rabbit but she's been in her house. He has checked out the house totally. He has a nice personality. I put him in a crate and took one of my dogs to Petco and was gone about twenty-five minutes. I'm not sure what I'll do with him on Monday morning, probably kennel him. As reported earlier, he loves to go in the car, he rode nicely to my house. I'll update more as I get to know him....so far, so good. I'd say if you're looking for a nice dog that's ready to move-in and be a part of your family, Sam may just be it.

Sam has already found a bed in a spare bedroom to relax on

Dear RAGOM Complaint Department,

My name is Sam and I would first like to thank you and your group for taking me in.  Things are pretty good here in my foster home, but there are a few issues that I believe need to be brought to your attention.

First, I am being fed in this house, but only by the legal definition. See I have grown accustomed to eating two cups of food twice a day and these jerks, sorry, people seem to think that one cup twice a day is better for a dog my size.  Hey, I didn't get to be this size by eating one cup at a time.  See what you can do about this, or I will have to resort to begging at the table - which is not working!

Second, after being picked up by RAGOM volunteers in Iowa and chauffeured around all day, it was my understanding that frequent travel and rides around town were part of the RAGOM Foster Dog Bill of Rights.  Apparently this was not communicated effectively to my foster family who take me on only a few rides a week.  They don't let me sit in their laps when they drive, and they won't let me run to the car in the driveway.  Come on!  I'm seven and know how to get in a car on my own; there is no need for a leash or a hand on my collar.  I will call Sean Penn or Bono if I have to.

Finally, and this is the big one, I need to sleep in a bed.  No not one of the silly little dog ones that these people leave all over the floor, but the nice big one that they sleep in.  For some reason they are not being terribly welcoming with their bed space.  I have done my part and jumped up and made myself comfortable, but they just laugh and then push me off.  So I am forced to jump back up and make myself even more comfortable.  Well one of them just laughs harder and the other one just gets loud.  This is no way for a cuddly guy like me to sleep.  They are treating me just like the dogs who have lived here for years.  This is not what I call hospitality.  What kind of rescue group is this that lets their volunteers treat us rescues so terribly?

Please, RAGOM, do something about this.  Yes, the walks are nice, the pets are quite adequate and I am allowed on the couch from time to time, but my complaints are not unsubstantial and they need serious investigation and correction.  If nothing can be done, I would certainly like another foster home where the people actually seem to care about my well being.  I have to go now because someone mentioned tummy rubs - oh yeah, there aren't enough of those either!

Sincerely,
Sam

PS - Please send more Kleenex and paper towels.  They are very yummy. Send them discretely in a brown wrapped box as I am not allowed to eat them in this prison you call a foster home.
