Bear 10-269

Profile

Bear  arrived in Richfield on Saturday afternoon. Thanks to Rona & Kathy  & Foster dad. Bear made a grand entrance into the yard to meet the resident female golden Timber girl. Bear is a very tall Golden - weighs 102# but he's not overweight; just the right weight for him. He is just real tall. Did I mention Handsome!!!!!!!

Bear went to the Vet on Sunday and got all vetted. Rona had him frontline & groomed before he arrived so he smells great.

Bear is  3 yrs old. PB Male Golden, red in color with blonde & gold highlights. He is completely UTD & neutered. HW negative. Very healthy. Bear does have a ear infection in both ears but he has medicine & ear cleanser so that should clear up in 14 days.

Waiting on the fecal. Very nice looking golden. Did I mention he is handsome?

He met Timber with a little hesitation since she was barking at him or so he thought. It was foster dad she was excited to see. He did try and mount her but she let him know that wasn't going to happen and so far he reads her signals.

Bear might have attempted to play with Timber but since I don't know him very well yet I can't say for sure that's what he was doing. He has 32 lbs on her so we need to watch him since he's big. Timber's  a little leery of him, she walks by him very slowly looking at him all the time.

So far I know he needs a physical fence because he likes to chase squirrels. I found that out by  taking him for a 2 mile walk. He walks great with a GL so he must have had some training. He seen squirrels and was ready to chase them. Bear can be walked with just a flat collar but I'm not that strong in case he took off after something. Don't let his size or weight fool you...he's quick.

He knows sit, stay, come, wait, and heel. The first night  we didn't sleep real well because he didn't really care for his crate. I might add it's the X-Large one with lots of bedding in it. So it was very nice. I am not sure if he's used to a crate or not but I use them with all my fosters at first until I know they can have free roam. But the next night was much better. So hopefully he is learning the ropes so to speak.

So far no accidents so I can safely say he's housetrained. Yay! He doesn't mark outside either. Yay! He squats to pee which is great I think. When I walk him he smells but doesn't stop to pee or mark so we just move along. He walks at a good speed which is good because I walk 3 miles a day so I have a walking partner. Timber doesn't really care to walk. She would much rather play with her balls.

Bear likes to de-stuff some toys but is learning the word No. He will chase a tennis ball but doesn't really bring it back. But that's fine with me 1  dog that's ball obsessed is plenty here.

He seems very mellow for a 3 yr old. Likes to be by his peoples but he's not a Velcro dog he just wants to be in the same room as you. He doesn't even bug you to pet him except when you first come  home or in the morning he gets excited.

He is sleeping right by the chair in the computer room as I type his update.

The SO did say he has allergies so we are watching to see. They had him on a Lamb & Rice food so that is what I am feeding him also. Dr J said just watch him and see if he itches alot and we will treat accordingly. So that is something to watch. But many Goldens have allergies just like ear infections and they do just fine.

More to come as we get to know Bear  better.

Bear has  been with us for just two weeks. We went to the Goldzilla Event on Saturday and Bear was a very popular golden. Many people came to meet him and couldn't believe how big of a golden he is. I don't mean overweight; just a large tall golden with a great golden temperament. He met his forever family there. The "F"  family has a Dad, Mom, and 2 teenage boys. They will spoil him with lots of walks daily and he may be a jogging partner for mom. Oh wait, and cuddling time too and play times. He will be one lucky golden because he will be an only dog. How great is that?

Bear has so wormed his way into my heart in just the short two weeks he was with us. Timber, the resident golden, was even starting to play with him more. It takes her some time to decide she wants to play with the foster dogs and then when she does they move on to their forever homes.

With all that being said, Bear Bear as I called him went to his forever home on Wednesday. He is doing well. The F family lives very close so I will get to see Bear often. Maybe they will even do their walk my way.

I have included some pics before he left for his forever home.

Bear - live the golden life you were meant to.  We love you and miss you already. Bear was my walking partner. We need to remember why we as fosters do this. It is hard letting them go and we cry but we need to remember the 3 Rs:  Rescue, Rehome, Repeat.  Bear was lucky #13.

Thank you to the F family for making Bear a part of your family now.

Bear has been with us for eight days now. Here is Bear's story: he was surrendered to the HS in SD. The surrendering owners were having a baby and Bear was too big and needed room to run and play, so they decided to give him up.  They had him since he was a puppy. They also said he has allergies(?) I really could never imagine giving Bear up just because I was having a baby. Dogs love kids and are great growing up together.

He's pretty much perfect. Timber could learn some things from Bear.

I think some fish oil and maybe a change of food should help him. But for now I'm not concerned for Bear and neither is Dr J.

Bear is opening up more and more each day. He is so sweet and has a great golden temperament. Bear's Fecal test was negative.

Some of Bears needs and wants in his forever home are:

1. A physical fence  so he can chase squirrels safely)2. Another dog or not to play with3. Walks4. Car rides5. Would probably like to sleep on a bed or couch.6. Would like a nice picture window to watch the squirrels go by.7. Petting time. Not a needy dog. Just likes to be able to see you - doesn't even need to be next to you. Belly Rubs are great!8. Kids probably over 6 years, just because he's tall and could knock small kids over. But he's very gentle. Doesn't jump up on anyone.

Bear just wants to go wherever you go . It would be great if whoever adopts him will take him along whenever they can. Bear has come to work with me 2 times last week. The Seniors just love having dogs come to visit so they can pet them, it brightens up their day they say. They can't wait to meet my foster dogs. Timber comes to work with me too. I have to do alternate days. It's a good thing my boss likes dogs and has one too.

Bear still tries to get the resident dog Timber to play. So far she only plays Tug-of-war. Bear is completely housetrained. Sleeps all night on the floor right next to the bed, not a peep out of him. Timber just likes to wake us up at 4 or 5 am to go potty so then Bear gets up too. Then back to bed again.

Bear has no storm or aggression  issues. Doesn't mind the vacuum or the air planes. I can take food or bones or toys away from him. He likes to chew on nyla bones.  Bear stays at home during the work day  and no problems at all.

Bear will be at the Goldzilla event  on Saturday come out and meet him. I don't think he will be around long. He's young. He's great with everyone. Did I say almost perfect and very handsome? Yes, he is a large golden, but he's a great dog...size doesn't matter.

If you are interested in meeting Bear 10-269 let your placement person know.
