Hey, hey hey, I'm here!  I just became a RAGOM dog!  I am about 8 years old and a very sweet girl - hey, I'm only repeating what I hear (honest!!)   My name is Chooie (short for Chewbacca), but I'm really hoping to get a more feminine  name.  I'd like to be a Molly or a Rosie or even Chloe.  As you can see, I'm a little lady.  I like it here with my new foster mom and dad.  This place is awesome.  I get to go outside lots and go on walks and hang out with my new chum, Lacy.  Well, gotta go; I see a new ball over there.  I loooove my toys and balls!  I'm sure you want to know lots more about me, so my foster mom will fill you in on more details real soon.

Love, Chooie

Note from foster mom: Chooie will be at Goldzilla for the 11:00 parade and at the showcase from 12 - 1

Yeah!  Chooie has found her perfect forever home!  She will have lots of time with her new work-at-home mom, her two feline sisters. and her new doggie sister Sassy.    She will even get to swim!  Sassy likes to swim and retrieve as well as Chooie, and they are a very companionable pair.   Good bye  and enjoy your new life, sweet Chooie!

Chooie had a pretty exciting week last week.
While we were out of town, Chooie went visiting.   For four days, she stayed with another RAGOM foster (thank you Joyce!), her young Cocker Spaniel Jax and 1 1/2 yr old foster dog Colby 10-186.  Colby and Jax looooove to play together, but  Chooie didn't enjoy their antics very much. As the week progressed, Chooie accepted it more, but  having two active young dogs is probably not Chooie's idea a perfect home.  She loves having my very laid back  6 yr old Lacy here to hang out with, but the young ones, not so much!  All that dog play wasn't for her.  So Chooie's future home would be best with a dog who has outgrown the hyper stage, or Chooie could be an only dog and just soak up all that love herself.  But, while Chooie was visiting, Joyce was able to get a couple of great pictures of Chooie with multiple toys in her mouth.  She snapped her first when Chooie had two balls and then when she had THREE toys in her mouth!!   Next, we'll try for four!

After she came back to Alexandria, Chooie had her stitches out.  Both her lower lid and the spot on her back look good - completely healed - non issue.  Health wise, Chooie is good to go.  No stitches meant she could once again enjoy her favorite activity - swimming!  She was SOOOO anxious to get down those steps to the lake!  You will notice that I now put a harness on her to take the adventure out of going down the steps at record speed!!  She continues to put her whole head under to find her special rocks and is just a joy to watch having so much fun!  And....you can forget what I said about Chooie not being a retriever - we just were not doing it in the right place! She would retrieve all day out of the lake!  She will retrieve the rocks, but really loves swimming out to get the hunting dummy.  She goes out, brings it back and immediately drops it without even being told - and wants to do it more, and more and more!   I would say there was some training in her past.  It is really so much fun to play with her because she enjoys it SOOOOO much!

We attended Chooie's second obedience class tonight, and I can tell she is so much more bonded to me and wants to please me.  Her only difficulty, again, was when we entered.  She had one dog who she gave her big ferocious bark to, was happy seeing the rest of the dogs, but gave the one a  bark later as we were doing figure eights around him/her.  Otherwise Chooie is doing well with heeling which seemed to be a new command for her and down and stay which she did well when I got her.  For some reason sit is a bit iffy. She knows it well, but we are not at 100% yet  unless I have a treat in my hand.  That brings the percentage right up there!!

Chooie is a dear.  She is very easy to have around, loves to be outside, is a good walker, is very good at just hanging out on the deck or being tied out on a rope.  It's cute, tho.. .as much as she likes being outside, she is always game to come back in, where she grabs a toy and enjoys just hanging out.  I love this sweet gal!

Hey, Chooie here again.

I've had another awesome week.  I really like it here, but I am now ready for my forever home, so I would like to show you some of the things I like to do, and tell you some of my dreams for my forever home.  I was surrendered because my family left me alone while my mom worked  full time .  After work, I was often left alone again when Mom and the kids had other things to do.  I really don't want to be left alone so much.  It's sad and lonely.  I'm hoping in my forever home that I'm left alone 4 hours or less a day.  I really like hanging out with my humans, and I want them to have time to have fun with me and work with me.  Below are some pictures showing me in action doing what I like to do.  I am very mellow most of the time, but I also have lots of spunk and am always game for action!   Psst...sometimes, I am even a wee bit stubborn, so I will need you to guide me on that rare occasion!  My age is a guess, but if I'm eight, I'm a young eight!

I love my walks - yes, I  like walking on the road, but exploring in the park is TOO fun!!  Having another dog to hang out with makes it even better.  Lacy and I have even started to play together now.  I am also very used to being tied out on a rope and enjoy just being outside.  And toys....I  like to just hang out with my many toys.  I LOVE my toys, and almost always have at least one handy.  I can easily get two in my mouth at a time and am working on three!  (So far, the camera women has not been quick enough to capture this.)  Sometimes I even use one for a pillow.  If you are looking for a die hard retriever, that's not me.  I like to go after balls and toys, but don't expect to get them back.  I'd rather just get them and nuzzle them a bit.

Oh, and today I had that little cyst removed from my eyelid and also a little one removed from my back.   So I'm gorgeous and ready for YOU!!

Love, Chooie

Chooie is a gem.  She has been with us for five days and has been a great house guest.  We are thoroughly enjoying having her here.  She loves everyone and gets along well with dogs, cats and kids.  She is always eager to go in the car and either sits quietly or lies down. She is house trained and crate trained. So far, she has had free roam during the day and has been crated at night.  Since she has been fine with free roam during the day, we are going to eliminate the crate at night also.

Here are some of the things that she has done while she has been with us:

1)  She attended a doggie obedience class.  She was the only senior there and announced our arrival with excitement and  barking - so many buddies all in one place!  Oops, we were immediately invited to take a place by the instructor!  Thankfully, my red face became a grinning face as she settled down quickly, never barked again and showed those youngsters a thing or two.  Even though she already knows many commands including come, sit, down, shake and high five, she's not above occasionally having selective hearing, so this will be good.

2)  She enthusiastically went with my resident Golden and me on our weekly visit to a local nursing home.  She thought that was great fun and she did very well, was very gentle.  The residents were excited about TWO BIG DOGS!

3) Miss Chooie went swimming and LOVED it!!

Hey, I can swim!!!

But, I love pawing at and diving for rocks!  FM was sure surprised the first time I put my whole head under!

It's awesome!

Ahhhh, I could get used to this lake life!

I have also gotten back the results of her vet visit.  Chooie is very healthy for an eight year old and only has a couple of minor issues.  She is now on antibiotics for a slight bladder infection, and  a slight positive for Lyme's and Anaplasmosis, the last two caused by ticks.  The course of antibiotics should take care of all three.  She also has a touch of arthritis in her right rear knee.  At this time, it doesn't seem to give her any problems.  And, lastly, she has a small cyst on her right lower eyelid which is irritating her eye a little, so we will have that removed.  Oh, and like all of the rest of us, at 77 pounds, she could stand to loose a few pounds.  We have put her on a higher quality, lower calorie food, plus she is getting more exercise, so that should help.

I have thought a lot about criteria for Chooie's forever home.  She's so good and so easy;  she could fit into about any household.  The only requirement that I have at this point is that her adopters have plenty of quality time to give this very special girl.
