Ginger 10-237

Profile

Ginger #10-237 is approximately 1 year old; and is a sweetheart petite female Golden Retriever who weighs about 40 lbs., so she's on the small side. Ginger was originally turned in as a stray to the local animal shelter then was adopted out soon afterwards to a family who had her for a few weeks until Ginger and the resident cat did not get along. The family contacted RAGOM and Ginger had a temporary foster family until she arrived with us last week.

Ginger needs one more shot to be considered updated, then she will be spayed in about two weeks. Ginger has a very quiet manner; and gets along very well with adults, kids of all ages, other dogs and seems to get along with other cats also, with the exception of the one in her previous home. Ginger prefers to patiently watch everyone before joining in to play and is getting more playful everyday.

Ginger is completely housebroken. She will stand by the door when she wants to go out, and does her duties outside in the woods. Ginger is a huge cuddler.  She prefers to sleep in your bed if you let her, but also does fine sleeping on her own somewhere in the house. Ginger will wake you up with a big smile on her face as she does her best to get you up so she can go outside.

I would consider Ginger to be a low-maintenance dog. She only needs short walks even though I've had her out for a couple mile walk and she does fine with only some minor pulling. Ginger can be walked off leash and does stay around the yard, but we keep a very close watch on her as she likes to wander a bit. Ginger does retrieve and will bring her toy back to you and let you gently take it from her. Ginger did do counter-surfing once even though she seems to eat quite well considering her size.

Ginger will be checked out this week by our friends at the Garrison Animal Hospital (she loves to ride in cars and does great), so please watch for another update soon. Ginger will do great in most any home whether for a single person or a whole family as she's that type of dog that seems to be comfortable wherever she is.

Updates

Ginger has been with us for about a month and is now on her way to her new furever home in southern MN! Ginger is a gentle cuddlebug with a super personality packaged in a petite body. She was a blast to have around with her huge smile and wagging tail that made you laugh and feel great. Ginger showed us that GR's do not have to be big in size to have a big heart. Ginger enjoyed her stay with us by swimming, walking, chasing squirrels and other critters, meeting new friends, keeping a watch out for the neighborhood bear, and helping bring in every fish that we caught. We'll miss Ginger very much but we know she's going to do great in her new home surrounded by lots of love and treats!

Ginger is a sweetheart approximately 1 year old GR female whose big heart and gentle personality wins over everyone she meets. Ginger's a great swimmer, and loves to play in the water. She has become an excellent walker, loves to retrieve and play fetch, is a cuddle-bug always looking for a sleeping spot near you, and has a very patient manner not usually seen in a young GR.

Ginger's excellent with kids of all ages, and easily lets them pet her or do whatever most kids do to dogs when they are playing with them. Ginger has a very keen nose and will assume the point position when she senses something in the area, which lately has been a bear!

Ginger will be spayed on 8-31 so I'm sure she'll be on her best behavior - which she always seems to be! - for the next few days. Ginger is definitely a day brightener who wakes you up with a waggin' tail and a big smile as she looks forward to being everyone's friend for another day.

Ginger is a petite female GR who's approximately one year old and she's on the small side weighing about 40 lbs. She's completely housetrained, barks very little, can be left alone for periods of time, and has a very gentle and patient manner about her. Ginger visited our friends at the Garrison Animal Hospital this past Tuesday and is now up-to-date on her shots and is microchipped. Ginger did test a faint positive for Lyme's disease and she is receiving meds for this (she takes the pills great) but does not exhibit any signs of Lyme's. Ginger is scheduled to be spayed on 8-31-10 and she'll be available for adoption after this but she is certainly available to meet with anytime before that. I've had Ginger for about 1 week now and she definitely has all the traits of a GR. Ginger's eyes are a different color than most GR's so it's possible she may have a bit of Spaniel in her but there's no way to confirm this.

Ginger is indeed a cuddle-bug and loves to receive and give attention, but is not a Velcro dog that must be next to you all the time. She walks well on a leash with just a slight pull and is very attentive to the small critters in the area such a squirrels and chipmunks and given the opportunity she's fast enough to probably catch one. At the vet's she met the 4 resident cats and seemed to do OK with them exhibiting a slight playful growl with her tail wagging all the time. Ginger came to RAGOM as she did not get along with the previous owner's resident cat so perhaps Ginger may do better in a home without cats but we're not positive of this right now. Ginger does get along well with other dogs and enjoys running and playing with them. Ginger continues to learn her name as she was originally a stray, and also is just starting to learn basic commands, which she seems to learn fairly quickly.

Ginger spent the past weekend with a houseful of kids of all ages and did just wonderful! She enjoys swimming, fetch (she's just learning this), keeping faithful watch on things outsides, and does not appear to have any storm anxieties, even though we got hit by lightning the other day! I think Ginger is just beginning to find out about herself as she's had a difficult early start to her life and is looking forward to settling into her new furever home. Ginger should do well in just about any home environment and as she has a tendency to wander she would benefit from further training on this or a fenced yard. Ginger's a small sweetheart with a huge heart who wakes you up every morning with big hugs and kisses to let you know it's time to get up and get the day going!
