Meet Avery! Avery is a 7 year old, female, golden retriever. She is honey colored and gorgeous! I would guess her to weigh in around 60 lbs. She came into RAGOM from a substandard breeding operation and has been used as a puppy producer all of her life. Despite her past life, Avery is extremely social, happy, and friendly! She eagerly seeks out attention from us and loves to be loved :) If this girl is awake, her tail is wagging! Avery knows her life just got a million times better! I told her being a RAGOM dog is as good as it gets :) She seems to be in good health too. Her teeth and coat are in pretty good shape. We will get her officially checked out at the vet today, but I am anticipating a clean bill of health.

Even though it was clear that she had never been in a house before Saturday, and she was very scared to walk on the wood floors and do the stairs at first... a little bit of gentle coaxing from foster dad (her favorite) and now 2 days later she is a pro! She was really unsure about the TV at first too... staring and barking. But she is getting used to that too. It is amazing how fast these dogs adapt. She is finally starting to pant less and I am very pleased to report that she ate her first real meal this morning.... a little canned dog food mixed in with her kibble did the trick :) yay! Avery has been spending her nights sleeping in the bedroom with the rest of the pack(2 goldens and a yorkie- all of whom she does excellent with!) and does very well. She hasn't even had a single accident and does her business outside very quickly and then comes bouncing back to you for more pets! She is very eager to please :)

Avery is a pleasure to foster and I can't wait to watch her continue to experience life the way she was meant to live it! We do have a very important matter of business... Avery might be pregnant. We will find out for sure at the vet later today. Stay tuned....

Hi Friends!!!  It’s ME—Avery!  I have some AWESOME NEWS!!!!

As a surprise for my birthday, Jasper’s family drove all the way down to my foster home to bring me my birthday gift—My FOREVER FAMILY!!!!!!!

I’m being adopted by the “C” family!!  I can’t believe it!  I have been dreaming about them since the first day I laid eyes on them and now they are mine!  My very own family!

This is my new mom Beth, my big sister and big brother, and my special Prince-Jasper.

And this is my new Aunt Kris.  She lives on a farm and has a GR named Chili that we get to visit a lot.  I also have a little boy cousin Lab named Trip I can’t wait to meet!  I hear he loves to play chase and he even has a cabin we get to go to!

The “C” family wanted to take me home the day they adopted Jasper and hoped that if it was “meant to be”…I would be theirs someday.

Thank God for “Meant-to-Be’s”

Thank you RAGOM for rescuing me, for fixing me up, for loving me enough to find ME my PERFECT MATCH!  Thank you to both of my foster families---I get to live the Golden Life now because of all you did for me!  And thank you to all my fans that followed my “interesting” journey (as FM calls it) so I didn’t have to go it alone.  Funny thing is, had I not been adopted out and returned, I would have never met Jasper and his incredible family.  I'm so thankful to the Big Guy Upstairs for all those “detours” that finally lead me HOME.

Love & Licks Always!
Avery

P.S. Special thanks to Santa for keeping his promise!

Hi Everyone!  It's ME---Avery!

Today was the BIG DAY that I went to see my old friend Jasper and his family! Jasper was so excited to see me!  He had this great big smile on his face when we arrived and he even tried to kiss me!!! WOW!

I wasn't quite ready for all that kissing and ear licking just yet! I mean, we were just "reuniting" after months of not seeing each other. I used to love those kisses and ear cleanings...but I can't show him that on the first "playdate" can I?  You know...I need to feel comfortable before the kisses start flying!

Jasper, being the gentleman he is, understood and so we just hung out with Jasper's awesome family and he showed me around his house and yard...ohhh what a lucky dog Jasper is!  He's super happy and very playful! And I can totally understand why!  I was amazed at all the hands he has to pet him!!!   And TOYS!  Jasper has great toys and he let me play with them.  He's a smart doggie----"just give the girl your toys and she'll warm right up!"  Well...it worked...a little bit!

I had so much fun hanging with Jasper and his family.  They are a really special family and they gave me soooo much lovin'!  Two of the neighbor kids even came over to meet me and they just poured on the love!  Man---no wonder Jasper is so happy---he's surrounded by people that love him and lots of hands to pet him!!!
Ahhhhh...that sounds like heaven to me!

FM invited Jasper to our house for the next play date so the rest of the gang can see him!  That would be great fun!  Maybe by then, I'll be ready for Jasper's kisses and ear cleanings?

Thank you "C" family for the fun day and for spoiling me rotten with all your love!

BIG KiSS!

Hello Friends!!!  Wanna play Keep Away with me?

OK, I got it!

Come and get it!!!

Sneak attack!

FM really wants me to play Fetch, but I prefer Keep Away!  When FM finally catches me, I hold on to my ball---I still don’t understand why you’d give it away?  Anyways…FM has this annoying habit of tickling my tongue and then my jaw just gets like Jello and that ball falls right out of my mouth.  FM also figured out that I like to “trade” my ball for a “treat,” but you better be quick…because I can drop the ball, grab the treat, and have the ball back in my mouth before it hits the ground.  Serious!

I'm a doggie of many talents

Well…time for a nap with my foster brother Shadow!

Wishing you all a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!  I think 2011 is going to be VERY special indeed!

Hi Friends!!!  It’s ME—AVY!

WOW!  Thank you so much Ruba and Jayden and Maggie and pups!!!  BIG AVY-KISSES to you all for thinking of me!  I love you guys and I’m so glad you have found your forever homes!  I’m still waiting for mine, but FM tells me that Santa won’t let me down, so I’m just lovin’ up my foster family until I get to go “home” to my very own family.  Just think…someday I will only have 1 or two other dogs to share my people with.  I mean—I love my foster family a ton, but really---they only have so many hands and I sure like it when there are at least two hands on me!  You know what I mean?  I’m a lover girl all the way through!

Hey—guess what?  FM and FD told me a secret last night and it’s a really good one!!!

After Christmas, we get to go visit my old FLAME Jasper!  Do you remember the masked handsome bandit Jasper?  He is so awesome and he was a great play buddy!  WE connected right away and we just couldn’t keep our paws off each other.

I was so happy when he found his forever home, but boy did I miss him when he left! FM told me that Jasper’s mom saw that I was back in RAGOMLAND and asked if I could come up to Jasper’s new home for a playdate!  Can you believe it?  I totally can’t wait!
So after the holiday’s we are going to get together!  Hey…maybe we’ll celebrate my birthday together?  I’m turning 8 yrs. old in January!  FM would say I’m still turning 3, but you’d have to know me like she does to understand that.  What can I say?

Hey—it’s snowing outside--Yeah!!!!!  Me and my foster brothers and sisters are having a blast in this white stuff!  Yesterday two men on snowmobiles came over and made us a bunch of paths in the backyard and then we could run and run and run.  I’m built like a deer, so I have no problems leaping through the air and the big snow banks---but my poor foster fur-butt sister Miley is not quite as athletic as I am—plus she has short little legs that get buried in the snow—HA!  Don’t tell Miley I said that---I might lose my cuddle buddy.  She’s one of the best!

Merry Christmas Everyone!  Thank you RAGOM for all you do to help us lost doggies find our forever homes!
Big AVERY KISSES to you all!

Hi Friends!!!!

I hear we are getting TONS of snow again on Saturday so RAGOM thought it was very smart to postpone the Stillwater event to keep everyone safe! That’s good thinking I think! Well, you know what I’ll be doing with all that snow…but after that, I’m going to do my next favorite thing…

Cuddling with my foster family!

See you next time—

Avy-Girl

Hi RAGOM Friends!!!  It's ME Avery!

Oh my GOSH---I LOVE the SNOW!!!!

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE making snow dog angels!

FM and FD played in the snow with us all morning---it was so fun, but then I got those pesky ice balls in my paws--I don't like those much at all...but FM melts them away with her hands and then I'm good as new.

After playing in the snow, we went out to the BIG RAGOM event to meet Santa so I could ask him for my Forever Family for Christmas and I was sooooo excited to meet him! But...no one told me that Santa was a strange type of 2-legger I had never seen before--and once I got there, I really wasn't too sure I wanted to talk to him!
I begged FM to talk to him for me..tell him how I'm dreaming about my Forever Family...but she insisted that I had to ask him myself.  Oh my GOSH...I just couldn't do it, and I think even Santa was surprised...look at his face!

Well, of course I felt bad about that, but really...new things (esp.strange looking things) scare me at first--everybody knows that!  But, FM told me that I'm a Big Girl and I've overcome much bigger things than a man in a red suit, so if I really wanted to ask for a Forever Family for Christmas, I had to pull up my Big Girl pants, and ask.  So... I watched that man in the red suit all day, and I watched the other dogs ask for thier Christmas wishes, and FM also sat down and talked to him for awhile.  OK..everyone survived so...when no one was looking, I did pull up my Big Girl pants and I walked over and I did it!  I looked up at that strange fellow with my big brown eyes and I asked him if he would help me find the GREATEST Forever Family EVER and you know what he said?  Santa said, "Avery, of course I will!"  Wow, that wasn't so bad at all--he even knows my name!  Of course, FM saw me talking to Santa, and she got all excited and out came that flashy thing.  FM is a bit picture crazy you know...

I was pretty proud of myself and FM was too!  It was really a great day---snow, Santa, RAGOM doggies, and dog loving 2-leggers...really, how does a day get better than that?  Me and my RAGOM buddies met lots of great families!  So many people came out to visit us and shower us with pets and love.  We are soooo lucky...and to think, last Christmas I was in a junkyard and now I'm in RAGOMLAND!  And if Santa pulls it off ...maybe next year I will be in the only place better than RAGOMLAND...with the greatest family ever--my Forever Family!

Hi Avery Fans!

Thank you to everyone that came out to welcome Avery back at the Richfield PetSmart event! What a great day!  Avery sure felt the love of all her fans--THANK YOU so much!  Avery also wanted to give a special "thank you" to the very special couple that bought both Bear and Avery early Christmas gifts!  The doggies were both totally wiped out from the event and both slept the rest of the day with their new toys :)

Avery 10-203, and her new Kitty!

Miss Avery will be out at the Plymouth PetSmart this coming Saturday to have her picture taken with Santa.  Hmmm...I wonder what she will ask him for this Christmas???

Hope everyone can come out and join us with Santa on Saturday!!  Really...what can be better than a day with Santa and a store full of Goldens???

Exactly...so we'll see you all there!

Hello Avery Fans!!!

Look who's back at her foster home?  What's the old saying, "Once bitten, twice shy?" Well in Avery's case, its "Twice bitten, three times shy."  Unfortunately, our poor girl hasn't had the best luck finding Prince Charming and maybe that's because we've been looking too hard.

Avery has been adopted out twice and returned "home" twice.  I feel like we are marrying our "daughter" off only to find that the "Prince Charming" of a home was not the "marriage" we were hoping for our Avy-Girl.  Avery's first adopter realized that her life was not suitable for two dogs.  OK--good to know.  Avery's second adopter realized that 1 of the 3 family members had a major personality conflict with Avery and that the situation was not going to blossom into "Happily Ever After."  Very good to know--and know as soon as we did!  So..Avery returned to us on Friday, and though she walked right in as if she had never left, she returned to us having regressed back a bit to the unsure, skittish little girl we first encountered, though I don't expect that to last long---she' pretty resilient!  One of her new found fears is of our long 30' leash that we use with fosters in the beginning to make sure they are not fence jumpers.  Well, Bear had it on and Avery hid under a table in the garage as we tried to make our way outside.  This new fear is most likely due to an unfortunate incident with a flexi-leash at her last adoptive home that was dropped and poor Avery got spooked and ran two blocks with the flexi-leash bouncing behind her.  Poor girl...this experience was just enough to set Avery back and make for a not so happy adoptive experience.

So...we begin again to make Avery feel safe and loved and see what transpires going forward.  Of course we are wondering if Avery is meant to be right here with US forever because sometimes Prince Charming is right under your nose--literally!  To adopt Avery would be such a blessing to our family, but since we have 3 resident dogs now, adopting Avery would surely limit our ability to continue fostering and helping so many more "Averys'" out there waiting for a foster home and eventually a great forever family.  We also know that her forever family is out there and would we be robbing them of this wonderful girl if we keep her to ourselves?  This is why we've decided to post Avery again....to make sure that Avery's forever family has the opportunity to find her and allowing fate time to show us the way.  Until then...we will continue to enjoy this little doll!

Bear 10-247 and Avery 10-203 ball hunting

Not shy about showing off

Avery is a Puppy Mill doggie with all the goofy quirks...but its the quirks that we adore the most!  We are sooo happy to have her back with us...be it short term or for forever!  Avery and our newest foster dog Bear 10-247 have become great pals and so Avery will be escorting Bear10-247 to the big event at the Richfield PetSmart on Saturday Nov. 27th!  Please come out and give this girl a BIG RAGOM welcome back!!!  She would love to feel the love of all her many fans!

See you all there!!!

Hi Friends--It's ME Avery!!!

Thank you SO MUCH for coming out to see and my friends at Chuck & Don's on Saturday!  Ginny even came with since she's a former RAGOM Girl herself!  FM dressed us both up as Christmas ornaments!  Can you believe it?  I was ok with it once I realized what was in the bag of treats---YUMMY!

This is my new friend Scruffy 10-312!  He's a total sweetheart!

And this is Scuffy's FM Kris...Ginny, Scruffy, and I---what a group of lovers!

So many old friends stopped out to say, "HI" to me too!  I've met some pretty great people along the way here in RAGOM land! Lots of Love out there for me---thank you so much M family and E family and R family and Deb and Kathy G. and everyone else who came out to see me!  I am one LUCKY girl!  And a very special lady came out to give me some special lovin' and she even helped me pick out a very special toy!  Thank you again Gwen for the thoughtful gift for FM & me!

After Chuck and Don's, Ginny and me went to see Ginny's mom and all our friends at Transitional Care.

Ginny and I sure make lots of smiles happen there---especially with Ginny's mom and my friend Jim!   Jim gets to go home next weekend, so we are going to miss him very much!  He has been my very special friend!  And we pray everyday for Ginny's mom to get well so she can go home soon too!

We finally arrived back home and I was totally pooped out... and I guess FD was too.

Hey...guess what???  That very special family that was putting a fence in so they could "officially" meet me called to say that the fence is DONE!  YEAH!  The J Family will be traveling 4 hours this coming weekend to "officially" meet me and my whole foster family.  Will you ALL keep your paws crossed for me?  Mine are already crossed!

Hi Friends---it's me--AVY!

Well, my weekend didn't start the greatest, but it turned out pretty darn good.

On Friday, we had to go to the vet for another surgery on that same spot that they pulled that broken tooth from----back in July.  Something just wasn't right and then last week, FM noticed a piece of bone where there should not have been a piece of bone.  The vet said it must have been a bone fragment that broke off during the first surgery or something from even before that.  It sure didn't want to be there and so it was working its way out-- painfully.  Lucky for me, RAGOM didn't want me to have to deal with such things and they said I could have that fixed right up. I love RAGOM!

But...I don't love going to the vet because they put me in a cage and I just start to shake.  They just don't understand what that cage means to me, you know?  Well, thankfully, they gave me a pill and off to La La Land I went.  When I woke up, I was sooo groggy and I got scared again until I heard FM calling my name and my tail started banging back and forth in the cage so fast----I was sooo happy to see her and we went right home and cuddled.  I even got to sleep between FM & FD that night----which I totally LOVE!

FM says they fixed my mouth up just perfect and so far it's looking really good!  I have to go back on Friday just for a check up.  FM says if I don't chew on anything hard all week, I should be all healed up by the weekend and just to be on the safe side, FM put away all my chew bones and surrounded me with all my soft babies--which I am just fine with!

I'm feeling pretty good now...but FM had me take it easy the rest of the weekend, so I just supervised all the weekend chores...

Not sure what all the dogs are so excited about around that tree, but at least they kept busy helping FM & FD.

Hey, guess what?  I'm going to be out at the Chuck & Don's event in Roseville on Saturday 10/30 to help spread the word about RAGOM----it's the least I can do for all RAGOM has done for me!  Please stop out and see me and my friends---and my new and improved mouth!  The only thing that would keep me away would be you know what...

Love & Licks,
Avery

P.S.  A little birdie told me that one of the wonderful families I met at the Plymouth event is installing a fence this week just so they can be considered to be my "very special, 3 requirement, perfect match, forever family."  Can you believe it?  Miley, my foster fur-butt sister told me that FM & FD installed a fence just so they could adopt her...so I guess it's not as crazy as it sounds...or is it?  We'll just have to wait and see...paws crossed!

Monday, October 18, 2010

Hi Friends!  It’s me—AVY!

I had so much fun at the event on Saturday in Plymouth.  I couldn’t believe how many wonderful 2-leggers came out to meet us RAGOM doggies!  Big and small 2-leggers everywhere all to give us pets—I LOVED it!  RAGOM dogs sure are lucky---sooo many people looking for doggies like us---makes me feel very SPECIAL!

When we got home, all the other doggies were so excited to see me—and smell me of course.  As a special treat—FM let us choose our own RAWHIDE from a bunch of different kinds!  Ohhhh boy---what a treat!  YUM!  Of course—FM has seniority rules in this house, so I was last in line.  Imagine that!

I waited in as PATIENTLY as possible while my body wiggled uncontrollably watching each of my fur-butt foster brothers & sisters pick their favorite until ALAS!--it was my turn!

“Yippee—got just the ones I wanted!"

“What do you mean I ONLY get one?”

“Pretty PLEEEEEEEEEZZE FM---just this once?”

FM HERE:

Thank you to everyone that stopped out to see Avy-Girl this weekend!  Sometimes, as a foster, you think, “I have this incredible dog here---where is her forever family hiding?  Don’t they know they are missing out on a very special girl?”  Then—you go to an event like the one on Saturday and your heart melts watching so many people stopping by to meet your foster dog and they tell you how they’ve been following her story.  YEAH!

Avy has had quite a bit of interest in her since her very first posting in July.  Some applicants have been “almost” perfect matches—and some would be perfect—BUT, they are missing one of the 3 Puppy Mill requirements needed to adopt her.  These requirements are very important to our puppy mill dogs.  While on the surface—it would seem somewhat over-protective to some and sometimes even unreasonable--past experience has taught us that Puppy Mill dogs need these 3 requirements to be the most successful in their forever homes.

PM requirements being:

1.  Another large dog to learn from and relate to… since being with dogs is all they have ever known (humans are usually the enemy)

2.  A physical fence to keep them safe… because when spooked, “flight” is their first defensive reaction—no matter how well they act otherwise.

3.  No small children…because a safe, calm, predictable environment is key for PM dogs, and young children are not always safe, calm and predictable.

So…while it’s been a long wait for this girl---it will be in Avy’s best interests in the long run to wait for her perfect “3 requirement” family match.

To know Avy is to LOVE her deeply!  So…you should know her as we do…

Avy is very much a puppy in a big girl’s body.  Everything is a new experience to her and she is easily excitable.  Avy wants to be near “mom” most of the time and will “help” mom out with any activity she is doing—be it pulling a wood tic off another dog or picking up laundry—Avy will be there with her tail a wagging, her nose right down in the action, and her eyes asking, “What are you doing FM—can I help?”  But Avery’s idea of help is a bit different then mine.  For example, if you drop a napkin, she will pick it up and then a little game of “keep away” begins—just like a little kid would do—HA!  She loves to run and play and when she runs it’s like watching a deer leap through a field—it’s absolutely beautiful to watch!  A big place to run—be it a dog park or a large fenced in field would be part of the “perfect” we are hoping for in Avy’s future activities.  As for manners—since Avery was raised in a junk yard shed—her manners reflect it a bit and she will need some manner-training.  We are working on some basic “puppy” manners and while she is very food motivated—she is extremely “touch-motivated” and will do anything for some lovin’.  So training is quite enjoyable for us—plus she learns quickly by watching the other dogs—good habits as well as bad. While Jasper 10-280 was at our home—she witnessed how he liked to rip open stuffed animals to get the squeaker out --and guess what---Avery now likes to make a hole and rip open stuffed animals when you are not watching her.  I would never take them away completely—because she loves them very much, but we are now “retraining” her how to play with them.  ON the flip side of the silly puppy girl is a people-lovin’ fabulous companion dog!  Avery is outstanding in public—she is like a magnet to people and other dogs and will go right up to them—knowing she will get some love.  I might even use the word “mello” to describe her when she is out and about--making her love of people and her demeanor great traits for a  therapy candidate--after obedience training of course.  Avy loves to be outside, but won’t go out and play without you.  She truly wants to share her new world with you…and of course—her LICKS!

Those big BROWN eyes really tell Avy’s story—its’ a story of a sad beginning—yet of an incredible love for life!  And as we all know—Love conquers all!

If you are Avery’s very special, “three requirements,” perfect match, forever family, you know what to do!

HI Friends--It's ME Avy!!!

What a great weekend!!  WOW--feels like summer again!  Foster Dad (FD) loves playing with me and of course--I love chasing my fur-butt brothers and sisters.  Don't tell anyone, but I'm quite a tease!

A family came to meet RAGOM boy Jasper (my foster fur-butt brother--but I think he likes me more than a brother if you know what I mean) and guess what?  They are going to adopt him!  Yeah for Jasper!!!  I was so excited I threw him a huge party and we all celebrated!

And then we slept!  Ahhhhhh...a Sunday afternoon, a couch, a pillow, a bear...what more does a girl need???  Oh yeah...a forever family for little ol' me would make this picture even more perfect!

If you'd like to meet me, I will be out to the Plymouth Petsmart next weekend to meet all my friends--and maybe my forever family---so I hope you will come out and say HI!

Hi Avery Fans!!!!  Avery is back in RAGOMLAND through no fault of her own.  The home situation that Avery was adopted out to changed suddenly and the adopter realized that she would no longer have the time she anticipated for 2 doggies in her life.  She was very sad and wanted everyone to know what a love Avy is.

Avy didn't miss a beat and settled right back into our home--finding her favorite hole to roll in... That's our Avy-Girl!

We are happy to have her with us again and can't wait to see how the rest of her story goes...more to come soon!

Just a recap of what we are looking for in her "perfect" forever home:

1. Another med-large dog to show her the way & to PLAY with
2. Physical fence
3. No small kids---quick movements scare her.  She LOVES big kids!!!!
4. A family that isn't away more than 8.5 hours during the day
5. A family that will exercise her---she is only 7 yrs. old on paper!  She loves to run and has a good amount of energy!
6. A family that loves to be KISSED!

If you are interested in meeting this cutie pie---please let your placement advisor know

Oh MY Goodness----that was the BEST day ever!!!! THANK YOU to EVERYONE that stopped by to meet me today!

BIG KISS for you ALL!

I had so much fun walking with my foster fur sister Miley and all my new friends. I wish we could do that every day together!!!

Then--the very best part (after the peanut butter lickin' contest of course) was meeting all my RAGOM fans!
I LOVE RAGOM people & doggies!!!!

You ALL made me feel so special and so loved---I am totally in AWE of how great it is to be a RAGOM dog!

I'm just thinking....with so many wonderful families at Goldzilla today, I know there must be one special one just for me!  If you think you might be that "one special one"...please let your placement advisor know or fill out an application.  I can't wait to have a family to call my very own!

I know....patience, patience, patience...right FM?

Thank you all again for the most special day of my whole life!!!  (Well...so far FM says...)

HI Friends!  It’s ME—AVERY!  What a WONDERFUL weekend that was!!!  So many people came out to visit us at Petsmart and I just wanted to THANK YOU all so much for all the pets and treats---RAGOM supporters are the BEST!!!!  I loved every minute and I can’t wait for this coming weekend at GOLDZILLA!!!  I will be greeting everyone at 8am with FM and then walking with my pack to raise $$$ for all the doggies.  I hope you all are joining in---it’s going to be a BLAST!!!  Then I will be at the Foster Tent from 12-2 so I come out and say “HI” because I want to MEET YOU and give you some Avy-lovin’!!!!

Did you know I am still searching for my Forever Family?  Yeah—I can’t believe it myself!   I have met some really nice families so far, but I kinda know what Goldilocks felt like when she was at the Three Bear’s house—I just have not found the “Just Right” family for me yet.  You know we go to see Ginny’s Forever Mom every weekend and Ginny is so excited to see her.  They are just right for each other and I can’t wait to have that!!!  Foster Mom keeps telling me that my Forever Family is very much worth the wait and Ginny says so too---so, I am just going to hang out here until they find me.  Besides---I love my foster family and I’m learning so much from my fur friends here!  For example---I love car rides!  Did you know that I used to be afraid of the car and now I run to it with my tongue hanging out!  And, I used to not give the ball back when we play fetch, but my fur foster brother showed me that if I give it to the 2-legger, then I get to chase it more—it’s a game you see.  I didn’t know that!  The one thing I can’t bare to give up yet is my stuffed animals—unless of course you trade me for a treat—HA!  See—I’m not stubborn—just smart!

Ginny told me that she met her Forever Family at a big event like Goldzilla and she thinks my Forever Family might be at Goldzilla this year—so my whole foster pack is working together and will be scanning the horizon of Golden Lovers for me!  I think I better start packing my stuffed animals and balls—you know— just in case!

Found this green thing in the garden…but…hmmmm….maybe I’ll leave this here.

OK, I think I have everything and I’m ready for the BIG EVENT!!!
Just a few days to go….Goldzilla—here I come!!!  It’s going to be a BIG HAIRY FRIENDLY Saturday, so I hope you will all come out and celebrate with us!!!  I am so lucky RAGOM was there to rescue me and my junkyard brothers and sisters!  I never thought life could be so good!!!  THANK YOU RAGOM and THANK YOU to everyone that has and is supporting RAGOM!  I am here because of all of you!  Please come by so I can thank you in person—yes—prepare to be licked!

One VERY happy, lovable, sweet, silly, loyal, cuddly, playful, lucky doggie—

Avery 10-203

Hi there friends!  It's ME--Avery checking in!  I've been really busy and having a blast with my Foster Family.  My foster 2-legged sister is getting ready to go back to school.  She is a great sister and gives me a ton of love.  She says I'm like having a little sister around because I follow her everywhere and want to know everything she is doing.  I can't help it---I'm just really curious and I really like being with her.  Well, at least I don't steal her clothes like some little sisters do--although I kinda like this dress she's wearing and it might just be my size.

FM keeps saying it feels like fall outside and I didn't know what she meant until yesterday when this cold white stuff fell from the sky.  WOW!!!  That was super cool and felt soooo good!  I rolled and rolled and rolled in it---it was like having an ice bath!

Then FM tried to dry me off with a big towel, but I'm still a little skittish about towels coming at me--which FM forgot.  One thing about Puppy Mill doggies is that we have memories of a lot of bad things that happened to us and so it takes a little extra care to understand our memories and then to teach us all about the good things in this new life.  FM says I'm really good about learning when she takes her time and shows me the good side.  So, FM did just that---she called be back for some lovin' and then slowly introduced the towel to my paw--and ohhh--that felt good and so I let her dry me more and more.  But--then she stopped, so I had to nudge her for more...HA!  Well, what do you expect---once I know it's good I'm all over it!   It just requires a good loving approach so I can learn.  And--of course my fur siblings are a huge help too.  For example, the garage door noise used to scare me and I'd drop and hide behind FM when she pushed the button...but now it doesn't bother me one bit---I just look at my fur-siblings' reaction and follow their lead.  I've learned so much good stuff here and I can't wait to learn more when I find my forever family.

Well, it's going to be a BIG weekend and so I wish everyone a fun-filled, SAFE holiday weekend.  Remember...Goldzilla is right around the corner...LOTS of dogs out there that need our help---so please join in if you can!

Love & Licks--Avery

Hi Friends!  It’s ME—Avery…getting all buffed and shined for you!  I will be making my big debut out at GOLDZILLA on 9/18 at the Foster Showcase Tent from 11am-12pm.  Come out and see me so I can give you some Avy-lovin’!

This is my 3 yr. old foster fur-butt brother Jonah (former RAGOM boy himself) and he’s my best ball chasing buddy!

We run and run and sometimes he gets the ball and sometimes I get it---but the best part of getting the ball is showing off when I win.  FM says that’s not good showmanship—but hey—I’m a dog!

I know I’ve told you this before, but I’m really a youngster in big girl fur!  I LOVE my new life and I love to run and play and be with my pack of 2-leggers & 4-leggers!  I LOVE people and I love all my doggie friends!  And some very nice people have asked about me and I am soooo grateful!  But, so far, that ONE family is still out there and I’m going to ask your help in finding them for me.  Will you help me?

Here is what I’m looking for in my forever home:
*  someone who would not leave me alone for more than 6-7 hours at a time (LESS would be even better)
*  another fun doggie to play fetch, tug-a-war, and run with—and also to lie by when we rest.
*  someone that will take me places to visit people and other doggies because I’m such a good girl and love all the attention (ex.  therapy work, dog parks, doggie daycare)
*  Regular exercise routine:  at the very least—1 good walk and 2 play sessions per day.  I would be a great     partner for an avid walker or runner because I’m a pro on the leash!
*  Lots of Love and Hugs and Belly Rubs!  I am bursting with so much love to give!
*  Medium to older kids would be just fine---but the younger ones are too much for me—still a bit too scary
*  Oh…and a fenced yard to keep me safe and sound J  I’m NOT a bolter—but I do like to explore.

That’s it—pretty simple!  So…if you know this family or better yet—you ARE this family---please fill out an application & contact your placement advisor!  Until then, I’ll be dreaming about my Forever Family and counting down the days to the BIG Goldzilla EVENT!
Can’t wait to meet you all in person!

Lots of Love—Avy!

Hello Avery Fans!  It's ME--Foster Mom :)

This little girl is as BEAUTIFUL on the inside as she is on the outside!  Avery is truly a Golden Retriever--mind, body, and soul!  Avery loves everyone she meets--be it 2-leggers or 4-leggers!  Every person she meets, she works her magic on and she has definitely worked her magic on us!  There is no doubt that Avery is going to make some family so very very happy!

Avery loves every activity we've exposed her to and I know she will continue to explore and enjoy so much more.  She is a natural "Golden Lover" around people and if therapy work of any kind is in your life...this girl is a dream!  She is so willing to meet and greet and the smiles she leaves behind at the nursing home we go to are just priceless!  And HUGS--are her specialty--Avery literally leans into you for a hug and she holds there until you are ready to let her go.  Let's just say--I don't let go often.

And for all you runners, walkers, and roller-bladers-- this girl must have been trained in a previous life because she is excellent on a leash and jogs beautifully right beside you!  She may be 7 years old on paper...but that's the only way you'd know it!

I really can't say enough about Miss Avery as she continues to amaze us everyday with her silly, loving nature!  I know our days are numbered with Avery because it won't be long now before a Prince-like family discovers this beautiful Princess and sweeps her off to Happily Ever After!  Ahhhh..that will be a happy day for ALL!

By the way....If you are the "Prince-like family".... this is your cue!  Princess Avery is waiting...

Hi Friends!!!
It's ME-- AVERY!  How are you?  I had a great week even though it was soooo hot!!!  Did you all survive?  We mostly played hard in the evening when it cooled down and during the day---Me and my fur-butt foster sister Miley caught up on our beauty sleep.

Everyone keeps tell me how wonderful I am and I think my forever family needs to know that!!!  I've also been thinking that my forever family needs a few more details about me so they can say, "HEY---Avery is the dog for us," so here goes...

Because I'm a former Puppy Mill Momma, RAGOM requires 3 things to keep me safe and happy:
1.  a physical fence
2.  another med-large size doggie for me to relate to and learn from
3.  no small kids that may scare me (they are a little unpredictable you know)

Other than those things---I'm good to go.  I'm a very happy, loving girl!  I love people and I'm very gentle---well--besides when I want to give you lots of kisses---then I do wiggle my whole body and my tail starts flying! I love to play and I love this Golden Life thing!!!

Oh...and I like to go for rides now!  Ginny has convinced me that rides are good and even today--I went for a ride to a RAGOM meeting and guess what----there were a whole bunch more friends I met!!!  It was VERY good!!!  So---as long as you crawl in the car first (like Ginny or FM do), I will go anywhere with you in the car :)  I even like to put my nose out the window!

Well...I have to run...sounds like we are having another doggie party tomorrow so I have to go pick up the yard.  And don't forget---if you run into my Forever Family, tell them I'm looking for them!  Talk to you soon!

Licks & Wiggles--
Avery

YIPPEE!! I'm FREE!!!!  No more R&R for me!

That's me (on the left) and Hanna 09-481 leading the pack in a race between us and the RAGOM Alum Crew (Miley, Monroe, and Jonah)!  You know it was killing me to watch everyone else run and play at these weekly playdates while I "took it easy".  Then TODAY---FM said I was all healed from my spay and ready to join in!!!  YIPPEE!!!!  I ran and ran and ran and ran!

And I think I surprised everyone!!!  No one can believe I'm 7 yrs old!!!  Well---you know---everything is new to me---just like a puppy--and so I'm acting a lot like a youngster---which is why FM is trying hard to figure out how to place me because I have the energy and eagerness of a 2-4 year old.  I LOVE DOGS and PEOPLE (I really can't get enough pets from them) and I really like the bigger kids and FM can totally see kids in my FOREVER HOME.  The great thing is...I'm totally potty trained and I respect baby gates and I listen when you say, "NO Avery."  So---I'm a really good girl.  My only "real" bad habit is I jump up on people to kiss them.  I don't really understand why that is a "bad" habit---but FM says it's not very polite.  So, I am working on learning the right time to kiss you and no jumping on you.  And I'm not going to lie---it's hard to contain all my loving---it just bursts out---but I will keep trying.

Unlike many PM dogs---I LOVE toys and I know how to play with them!!!

I play fetch!!!  I play Tug-a-War like a champ and I LOVE LOVE LOVE anything stuffed----animals and toys that is!  I also love to run next to all the 2-leggers and I think it's so fun when they try to play Chase with me---LOL!!!  hA!  I think that's why FM sees kids and/or an active family in my future because it makes me smile when I get to play with them---just like when I'm playing with my 4-legged friends!

I just can't tell you how happy I am to be here is RAGOMLAND!!!  I'm not sure completely how I ended up here but I'm so happy I did!  All my RAGOM Alum friends tell me about their forever families and how wonderful life is.  Even though I am very happy at my foster home, I am really looking forward to having a family of my very own---you know---I've never had a family of my own so I am soooooo excited!!!  If you are looking for a doggie like me, I promise I will bring you lots of love and companionship---but most importantly---I will be your very best friend!  I can't wait to meet you, so contact RAGOM an then your placement advisor so we can meet!

Well---the race is still on so I gotta run!

Love & KISSES!
Avy!

P.S.  I just wanted to thank Hannah's FM for sending these great pictures to my FM!  Please come and play again!

Hello Friends in RAGOMLAND!  It's ME--Avery!

How are you??? I am doing great!!!  FM says just a couple more days and I will be able to run and play with my new foster fur-butt siblings----ohhh I can hardly wait.  My "spay" and "tooth extraction" went well--I think that is a good thing as everyone is pretty happy about it.  FM says, "NO more baby making for you Avery" and I'm so cool with that.  I mean...I love being a mom and all but really--for my whole life???  I think I've had more than my fair share and I'm ready to see what this Golden Life is all about!

Yesterday---FM intivied all my RAGOM friends over for a little dog party. Ohhhh the temptation to play was killing me---but I made it!   It was a really fun day and I even meet my SUPER HERO Brandon 10-196 and that totally made my day!

Then today, Ginny  (a RAGOM alum and former Puppy Mill Momma) invited me to go for a ride with her to visit her mom in transitional care.  FM wasn't too sure if that was such a good idea, but Ginny somehow convinced her and I'm soooooo glad she did!  FM is too! It was like nothing I had ever experienced in my whole life and I'm not going to lie----I LOVED it!!!  Ginny introduced me to her mom first and then we went to meet everyone else!

I think I surprised everyone because I was like a little social butterfly fluttering from person to person for pets and loving.  FM said she was totally shocked at how at ease I was with all these strangers.  But then again---they were calm and happy and moving at a pace I totally can handle.  FM said something about being a "therapy dog" and that I may have all the makings of being a star one.  Hmmm...I'll have to ask her more about that. Ginny's mom agreed and said that I can come back anytime---and then two more 2-leggers asked me to come back too!  Can you believe it?  Ginny's mom thought we should celebrate my visit so she gave us each a "thank you."  I thought a "thank you" was something you say, but I really liked this "thank you."

Not sure what it was, but it was soooo yummy and cold---I had to give her a big "thank you" back--Avy-Style

Well---if this is the start to the Golden Life---I'm totally on board!!!  FM says that I am a total sweetheart!!!  I'm called a "velcro dog" at this point, but that's just until I figure out this new life--you know it's nice to have a "home-base" or in this case--a "home-2-legger" to run to for reassurance.  Having had a few PM momma dogs already, FM says she can't believe how much further I am than my two foster fur-siblings were when they first came into foster care.  Well---I can't take all the credit---my first foster family really started me out on the right foot and now I feel so good that I can just be me!  Believe it or not, I know my name and I know what "no" means.  I'm VERY social.   I love being with other dogs, but I do give them their space and I like when they give me mine.  I am a pro leash walker and I don't pull one bit!  As you know, the little 2-leggers are a bit scary for me--they move too fast and are somewhat unpredictable---BUT I do feel VERY comfortable around big 2-leggers. And.. I'm NOT a "bolter" AT ALL and I come when called--which is totally amazing to FM!!!  What can I say--I know love when I see it --so why would I run away?

Speaking of "love," FM thinks I'm totally ready to find my forever family and I think she's right!  If you are interested in experiencing my new life with me---contact your placement advisor so we can meet!  Until we connect--FM said I can keep exploring new things so that I can keep spreading my wings and fly!  Huh....???  My wings?   I don't have wings--do I?  Do we have a translation error here?

I wish we all spoke Dog--it would make things much easier .....Woof woof woof....woof...woof woof woof woof!
Opppsss...I mean..
Thank you for reading my update!  I love you already RAGOMLAND!

...BIG KISS...

Sweet Avery (or Avy as I like to call her) is sweet as ever. Everyone who meets her comments on how beautiful and sweet this girl is. It is true, she is stunning. She has learned the routine pretty quickly around here and we are very proud foster parents as we watch her enjoy life to the fullest! She loves her walks and is learning to walk on a leash... another week I bet she will be a pro :) She isn't sure about the water yet (we have a small lake near our home) but is very curious so I think she will be taking up swimming with the resident doggies soon enough! I can hear Avy saying "One thing at a time foster Mom... geez!" :)

One thing Avery did learn this week.... how great a roll in the grass feels! It was the cutest thing, Bella (one of our resident girls), was out in the yard and decided it was time for a good long roll in the grass. Avery stood there and watched her very closely, and a few seconds later she was rolling too... with a huge smile on her face! So cute! I wish I could have taken a picture. She has also learned to fetch. Although she is till learning what the appropriate things to fetch are .... she likes to bring me my cell phone, the remote, and today brought a bottle of lotion downstairs! She is very gentle with everything she picks up... never causing any harm, she is so proud when she has her special treasures too.... comes up to you with a wagging tail "look what I brought you!" dropping it at our feet. She is a puppy in many ways. We will teach her what she can and cannot play with, that too just takes time. Avery is like a pup! Everything is new, exciting, and waiting to be explored!

By weeks end we will find out if Avy will be a mommy one last time or if she will finally enjoy her much deserved retirement from that part of her life. We shall see.... if I had to guess (by looking at her belly), I would say one last litter is in her future. Stay tuned to find out!
