Introducing . . . Mercy! Mercy is a PB female GR with a pretty red coat and a cute white face. Her age is unknown, but our vet estimates she is 7 or 8 years old. She is a sweetheart, with a very calm and laid-back personality. Mercy was found as a stray and taken to a shelter before coming to RAGOM. We do not know much about Mercy’s background, but we are discovering what a great girl she is.

Mercy was a perfect little lady during her first trip to the vet. Everything checked out great and our vet says she is in good health. She was microchipped and is now UTD on her vaccinations, but we are not 100% sure whether she has been spayed. Our vet would like Mercy to put on a little weight, as she is a very thin 68 pounds. She has been eating well and discovering new foods, like green beans, barley and cottage cheese. She’s not crazy about everything we’ve given her, but she loves her dog food and eats every morsel. Mercy is a very polite eater and will wait patiently for food or treats.

Things we know about Mercy so far:

  • She gets along well with resident dog, Toby.
  • She loves to ride in the car.
  • She enjoys going for walks and walks beautifully on a leash.
  • She is very respectful of everything in the house and does not bother anything that does not belong to her.
  • She does not counter surf, has no aggressions or resource guarding.
  • She has some thunderstorm and separation anxiety.
  • When she gets excited, not only does her tail wag, but her whole body wiggles and she squishes up her nose and smiles at you.

When Mercy had her initial vet visit back in June, our vet could not find conclusive evidence that Mercy had ever been spayed. The only way to know for sure was to wait and see if she went into heat.

Well, Mercy is in heat. She is handling it like a trooper, even when she has to wear little boy's underwear. We promised Mercy that her Mommy days are over, and we'll be making the arrangements to have her spay surgery in November.

Foster Mom has been a little slow with my updates, so I better get this one out to everyone. I’ve been doing great, except for a few skin problems. FM took me to the vet a few weeks ago because I had some kind of infection on my shoulder, just under the skin. The vet gave me some pills, (FM said they were antibiotics and antihistamines, whatever that means). Apparently I have some seasonal allergies that make me scratch a lot. FM says I’m so good at taking my pills. The awesome thing about my allergies is I get to take lots of bubble baths with special oatmeal shampoo. It’s just like being pampered at a spa, and it makes me feel so good!

Here are a few things to remember about me:

  1. I smile a lot.
  2. No one knows exactly how old I am, but I have lots of energy.
  3. I walk great on a leash, but the other day I saw a bunny and really pulled FM’s arm.
  4. FM & FD say I need a fenced yard.
  5. I really like having resident dog, Toby to play with.
  6. Everyone I meet loves me.

Mercy has been with us four weeks now, and we have really enjoyed watching her sweet personality emerge. She has become good friends and a calming influence with resident dog, Toby. Toby has epilepsy, severe thunderstorm anxiety and newly-discovered fireworks anxiety. He has had some tough times recently with severe weather, the 4th of July, and more seizure activity due to a change in his medication. In the past week or so, when Mercy senses Toby’s anxiety, she tries to distract him by getting him to play with her. Because of her amazing sense of awareness, we wouldn’t be surprised if she helps him during any seizures he may have while we are at work during the day.

Mercy does not seem to recognize her name, and it appears she has not been taught many commands. But she is a very smart girl and now knows "sit" and "stay" very well. She is a good watchdog that barks when she hears noises outside, sees someone pull in the driveway or walk toward the house.

Although she seems to have plenty of energy, she does not require lots of exercise. She’s eager to go for walks or play outside in the yard, but will take naps if FM and FD are being couch potatoes.

We think she would enjoy a fenced yard at her forever home, if possible. She loves to watch (and chase) squirrels, bunnies and birds.

She enjoys the companionship of another dog, but could probably be an only dog too.

It is unknown if she gets along with cats.

Mercy has not been around children at our house, but because of her gentle disposition, we think she would be good with children of all ages.

Mercy is a pretty special girl who would bring lots of love to her forever family.

Hi, Mercy here, with an update all about ME! I’ve been at my new foster home for a couple of weeks now, and I have to tell you, I am one happy girl! FM and FD tell me I’m a very good girl too! I’m still trying to figure out resident dog, Toby. He’s not so bad, as far as BOYS go, but sometimes he gets crabby with me when he doesn’t want to share his toys. FM says it’s a good thing I’m so easy-going. I found a way to outsmart Toby though, and it makes me chuckle just thinking about it.

Listen to this: Toby and I have free roam of 3 rooms of the house when FM and FD are at work during the day. Well, I decided I need a room to myself, where Toby can’t bother me. So as soon as FM and FD leave the house, I go in their bedroom and close the door. At first they thought I had closed it on accident, but every day since then, I’ve done the same thing. One day when I closed the door, I didn’t realize Toby was in the bedroom with me. Boy was that a long day! I won’t make that mistake again. Yesterday I decided to be a little more creative. I didn’t have to close my door, because I found a way to block Toby in the bathroom all day. Girls rule!

Here are some other things you need to know about me:

  • I do not always respect baby gates, but I NEVER get into any trouble if I manage to get past them.
  • On two separate occasions (when I first arrived), I escaped from my crate when thunderstorms were in the area. Outside of my crate, I am very calm during a storm.
  • I get a little worried when I’m in the yard and my FM and FD are outside the yard. I try to find a way out so I can be with them.
  • I am completely housebroken.
  • At night I sleep peacefully on the floor next to FM and FD’s bed.
