Doc 10-140

Profile

Is there a doctor in the house? It is my pleasure to introduce Doc. McSteamy or McDreamy is more appropriate for this phenomonal boy. Doc is one of 5 dogs from South Dakota surrendered from a "going out of business" breeder. Thanks to Rona for the buff, polish and vetting and Karen and Kathy for transporting Nina 10-141 and Doc. I am in love again. It's so easy to get lost in Doc's eyes and fall in love with this young boy. Doc is not used to human affection or interaction until now. He didn't have a name prior to rescue. He is acclimating slowly to living inside and cautious of everything including MiMi, our 10# cat. He doesn't know what to think of Heather, who is always ready to play and chase.

It's day 2 and what a difference. Doc's personality is shining. Out for 2 walks in the evening. His tail is constantly wagging and he is coming to us for attention and love. He let me clip a couple tiny mats around his ears, no problem. He is a mama's boy. Stays by my side or very close. He is butting in for his share of attention when we're focused on Heather and Meg. There is a skip in his step and he is a very happy boy. He is not responding to Doc. We've been calling him Brave Boy and Sweet Boy but he is just so darn beautiful, so we've settled on Orlando. You can name him what you like. No guarding, begging or wolfing down his food. He takes food & treats gently. He has a gentle, soft mouth .

Day 3, No accidents in the bedroom last nite. He keeps his crate clean all day. He is going through the doorway to outside without hesitation and down for bathroom without me. He stayed home with Meg for about 2 hours while Heather & I went to a motorcycle party. No problems. We'll try free roam tomorrow.

Orlando is very itchy. He goes to the vet tomorrow for "the snip snip". Poor guy. And we'll figure out the scratching. It's progressed since he's gotten here. Hope he's not allergic to me :0(

He is a sweet, sweet boy. Can't get enough love. He had free roam with Meg today and no destruction or accidents. So, I think we can assume he is housetrained.

Paws crossed his itchies aren't serious and his "snip" goes well.

Where does time go? Summer is flying by for this boy. We attended a dog party with 11 dogs.

Most were either adopted by their foster or up for adoption. The weather didn't cooperate so we spent a majority of the time on the porch. Thanks, Jen, Jake, Jayden and Jim for the party. What a blast. First time my 3 tried Frosty Paws. It was a delicious treat for them.

We visited the ginormous puddle again. Still scarey for him, but he was swimming like a pro for 10 seconds and then got scared. A little time and patience and he will be a professional.

Pippin (we think is Heather's brother from another mother) was our weekend guest while his mom went up north to search for Mozart.

We went for several walks
   and lots of yard play.

Doc/Orlando met a wonderful family at the Parktacular Parade last month. It was love at first kibble. The M family applied, home visit completed and the rest is history. Co-incidentally, they adopted our foster #2 Radiant Ruby in 2008. Needless to say we are thrilled he found this loving family. The kids picked out a beautiful sparkly collar and leash and had a special tag made for DOC. Yup, the boy we've called Orlando will now be called Doc.

Because Ruby is 10 and Doc is 2, we teased her that she is a cougar. Be it cougar or little brother, they are family and that's what RAGOM is all about...finding that "special" family for our fosters. So, sweet boy, it's all good. Just 2 months with you was way too short.

We love U! Doc, Ruby, Meg & Heather.

What's Up Doc? Hellooo, Doc, What's up?

Oh, yes. Hello everyone. Sorry, I'm late. I have been so busy. Life is good.....NO, wait...LIFE IS GREAT! Heather & I were in a parade. It is nothing like the ginormous puddle. We walked forever to the place we started from and met several other RAGOM furbutts. Then we walked even more with lots of people. And after all that walking I was content to relax back in the park. We hung out with foster #2, Ruby 08-316.

And another friend, Marty 08-009.

It's good that I relaxed then because I was ready to play and chase with Meg when we got home. Murphy was over for the weekend keeping Meg company. At nite we even went for another walk with our people.

It's been education week around here. My homework is OFF, HOUSE and GET OUTTA THERE (when we are exploring the weed gardens). HOUSE is my crate, like Heather's except bigger. I know FM is serious when she tells me off if I jump on the bed in the morning. Because she gently blows on my face. Yikes. That makes me "get down" really fast. No offense, FM, but your breath is BAD in the AM. Word around here is that I would be a keeper if the city allowed 3 dogs. Maybe they should buy a farm and collect furbutts. I'm just sayin.

Oh boy!! We found a dinosaur bone in the house. It is HUGE. I hope this lasts forever. We asked MiMi if she wanted to help but she declined.

FM stayed home from work yesterday and we went for 2 walks. We found something in the grass called a frog. It kept popping up and down in the grass when Heather touched it with her nose. That was very funny until FM picked it up and put it in a plastic bucket with water and went for a walk. She returned with an empty bucket and said it will be ok at the creek. We hope so, too.

I am meeting the neighbors on our walks. Sometimes I get scared for a minute or 2. If Meg says they're okay, then I'm okay too. I just need a little support. But I love meeting dogs. A guy is talking about a dog party at his house with 2 lab dogs. I'm excited about that. FM says to tell you that I don't growl or snap or get snarky. I am very social. There's not an aggressive bone in me. It's a peaceful kingdom around here inside and outside.

Well, I gotta go and harass my foster sisters. If you want to see our ancient dino bone in person, contact your RAGOM Placement advisor. Bring your camera cause it won't last long. You won't believe it. See ya later............Doc

What's up Doc?

Well, I must say, life at this place is pretty darn good. You finally found a food I like. I don't require anything fancy. Organic is tasteless. Grain free salmon is boring and the all meat kibble for small breeds, yuk. I'm ok with plain old chicken dog food. I'm not a comfort canine like my foster sisters. Just give me a floor with a blanket and I'm good. I have Heather, my own personal trainer for laps around the yard and the daily wrestling matches. And Meg is my teacher and mentor. She taught me how to SIT and LIE DOWN. Our current class is STAY, OFF & DOWN. I am a quick study and will show you my progress when you let your RAGOM advisor know you want to meet me. And I don't want to forget to tell you that I like the variety of treats around here. Yup, life is good now that I'm a RAGOM boy.

We haven't been to the ginormous puddle since Memorial Day, so don't know if I can swim. I'm sure I'll learn that quick, too. Its been raining too much so we haven't been on a walk in forever. I walk really great on a leash and don't need the gentle leader. If I see a squirrel or rabbit, though, you may want to hold on tight.

The itches aren't such a bother anymore. Still get them sometimes. I'm good with a Benedryl in the morning and evening. And I'm much better about taking my Benedryl. Don't need the p nut butter anymore. I'm getting used to the spray on my belly and inner legs. When I see the bottle, I just roll over and accept it.

I'm supposed to tell you that I'm not a barker either. When people come over, I get scared. But it only takes a minute or two and I'm putty in your paws.

We are going to be in a parade Saturday. Hope that's not like the puddle. Oh well, I'll try it. Maybe I'll find my forever family. FM said their Ruby found her perfect family in 2008 at the parade.

My paws are crossed that I'll find my family there, too.
See you Saturday.

Thanks for your time............Doc

Hellllloooo,

As if the dog party wasn't the best day ever, there was more excitement in store for me. The next day we went to a ginormous puddle of water called Medicine Lake. My foster people thought it was an appropriate place cause I'm a doc (get it?). Don't feel bad, I don't understand it either.

Anyway, first FM took Meg in the BIG puddle and she liked it. Then they came back for Heather. Me and FD watched from the puddle's edge. Heather got her belly wet and they came running back. Then it was my turn. (I was hoping they'd forget about me.) So me & FM walked really slow until my belly got wet. Then I got scared and grabbed her leg. So we went running back to dry land. Then my sisters and FM went out further & FD stayed with me. The puddle was up to my knees. And then FM came back for me and I'm supposed to watch Meg float. Heather stayed with FD at the edge. Then FM and me went back in the puddle really slow and then the bottom disappeared. I couldn't touch. So I grabbed FM again and my feet finally touched and we ran back to the Escape and escaped outta dodge. Whew, that was close. Not a big fan of the puddle....yet. I must admit that it felt really good on the hot day. We're going back soon. I'll do better cause I'm a Golden Retriever and we're supposed to be water dogs. I will be brave. I will be brave. I will be brave.

The antibiotics are gone and I'm feeling alot better. My itchies are almost gone, and I only get 1 Benedryl all day. And I get an anti-itch spray sometimes for the itchies on my belly and inside my legs. It works. I'm sleeping better, too. Today I took a chance and jumped on the bed. Meg & Heather always jump up there and I got tired of waiting for a personal invitation. I was surprised how squishy it was. I could get used to it faster than the puddle for sure.

I went to the doctor and he said I'm super improved. Probably just environmental allergies.

Now I'm supposed to tell you what I need in my forever family.

Because I wasn't socialized before RAGOM rescued me, I'm classified as a puppy mill dog. That means according to RAGOM rules I need a physical fence and a resident dog comparable to my size. If you have kids, they have to be 10 or older.

I don't agree with those restrictions, but Rules are Rules and RAGOM will stick to that criteria. If you don't have a fence that I can see or another dog then I can't come live with you. Contact your placement advisor if you need me in your family. I'm a great team player and would like a chance to show you my charming personality and I'm not bad looking either.

Thanks for reading about me.

FM: So, what's up Doc?

Doc: I lost something back there.

FM: You were neutered, big boy. So, how do you feel now that its over?

Doc: A little uncomfortable but ok and kinda weird. I have all this energy. I want to play and kiss and cuddle with everyone. I'm getting it that humans are okay, I'm discovering that I like treats and stuffies and balls and going in the big yard. Mimi's not so scarey unless she grabs my leash and hangs on to it. I love our daily walks and meeting kids and dogs and big people. And I don't need that strap thing around my nose like Meg & Heather. I walk with a loose leash next to you, like a good boy.

FM: We are so darn proud of you, Doc. You are a very brave boy and have accomplished so much in just a week. Your tail is high and you walk with pride. You meet people and dogs with a sniff and a kiss. I'm especially proud of you because you don't pull me when we walk.

Doc: How come I feel better but I still scratch and itch?

FM: We give you pills called antibiotics because the vet said you have a secondary staff infection caused from skin allergies. Plus you get 2-3 Benedryl a couple times a day and a medicated topical spray to help you not itch so much. Did you notice that your belly isn't as rashy and irritated anymore?

Doc: I was wondering what those pills were for. I do feel better. So, I guess I shouldn't spit those out if they help me. If you hide them in peanut butter, I like them better. (You are so busted, foster mom.)

FM: That's right. You need to be ready for your forever family. You are here until you meet a family that wants to take you home and love you forever. Meg & Heather will show how to be a "dog" like you are supposed to be. No more kennel outside 24/7. You'll stay in our house with love and attention and even play with "the cat". When you get adopted, then it's off to your new home and adventures with them. Right now we are deciding what you need in you next home.

FM: Ok, Doc. Tell everyone about your first dog party.

Doc: WOW, I've never seen so many dogs. They were everywhere. And the girls....OMG, I am in love with (no special order here) Tammy, Jayden, Millie, and Ella. Paw up to Rebel, Murphy, Jake, Moxie. And a butt check to Hannah, the princess of the party. Kisses to my foster sisters Meg & Heather. What a party. Thanks for all the treats Auntis Jen, Julia, Jen, Kris & Jane.

Imagine waking up to me everyday.

I am one happy boy thanks to RAGOM.

And before I knew it the party was over and it was time for a nap.

McSteamy, McDreamy, Orlando, Doc, whatever his name is, he is a very very special boy. Contact your placement advisor to meet him......Doc 10-140
