Let me introduce Buddy-Jazz (Sky). This is a beautiful young, PB male. He has traveled a long way to MN from South Dakota. He was a shelter dog rescued by Ragom. This lovely golden was returned 3X to the shelter due to "inexperienced" pet owners who did not know what to do with a puppy. Thank goodness he has found his way into Ragom. Now, the good life will begin and that right forever home for him will be found who truly understand goldens, puppies and dogs! He is a total beauty inside and out. Now, here is what I know of him to date:

  • He is 1.5 years old
  • He is all golden
  • He is a beautiful shade of gold with a white spot on his chest.
  • He is very active and requires lots of excercise
  • He is respectful of cats (I have 4)
  • He gets along great with other dogs (I have two young neutered Setters)
  • He is approximately 60# with good hips and elbows
  • He loves to play ball and go on walks
  • He gets along great with kids (need to be older due to activity levels)
  • Rides great in the car either crated or in the back seat
  • Sleeps in a crate at night next to his fur brothers
  • Housebroken

Buddy-Jazz (SKY) will be neutered on Monday the 29th. He is UTD and microchipped. He is on the end of ear med for a very slight ear infection and is fine now. "Sky" knows how to sit, lie down, shake and is working on the stay. He is a very active boy and happy, so very happy, to have a 'fenced' yard and room to play, fetch and enjoy the outdoors. He is very bright and learns quickly.

Sky is learning to walk very nicely by your side on a collar and leash. He is one beautiful golden boy. He makes great progress every day and is a typical golden, yes, wants to be by his human! He has been through too many changes with prior owners who did not know dogs, did not know puppies, and did not give him enough attention and exercise. So on to a new golden life for him with Ragom and a forever home who knows about an active, beautiful, loving golden puppy!

From Sky's (FKA Buddy/Jazz) forever family...

Hello -- Sorry it has taken us so long to update this! We have been busy enjoying our new family member, Sky.

We adopted Sky in late April, 2010 after taking a chance and a 2 hour trip to meet him. Our wonderful FM, Karen was so patient, caring and knowledgeable about him and his past. We feel so lucky to have him as our very own.

He seems very well adjusted now and he actually grew a little taller after we had him for a few weeks. We have a french door refrigerator that his head cleared just fine for a couple of weeks. Then one day I opened it and it didn't! His coat is full and weight is great, just about 60 lbs. He is a happy boy and still gives lots of kisses!

He has completed two legs of obedience and has earned his Canine Good Citizen award. He is overcoming his water fear, as you can see from this picture below, his first boat ride a few weeks ago.

He is becoming so much more trusting of us and strangers too. He is nearly fully trained on an invisible fence that we had with our previous dog. Our daughter is away at college and he has made the trips to see her and is just simply a part of our family!

We were/are so impressed with the hard & valuable work that RAGOM does, and felt compelled to check you out when considering getting a dog, this past Spring. He sure had a long road to get to us, but we couldn't be happier that we finally found each other!

Happy Sunday!

FM took me to my first meet and greet at the Decc in Duluth today. There were lots and lots of people and dogs. Guess what we found out? I really love...love...everyone. I gave puppy dog kisses to everyone. It was great! There were people in wheelchairs and some chairs even had motors and I was not scared at all. I went up very gently to those people and gave really wet kisses! I especially loved the kids. They didn't have a chance..... when they came at me in those baby strollers they were captive and I would wash those cute little faces and they would giggle it was great! Those silly kids had really good tasting faces. FM gave the kids treats to feed me and I was so gentle with the tiny fingers and then of course I had to clean those little fingers off. That was my job to make sure all those little faces and hands were clean when they left the Ragom booth.

When I got home I was pretty tired but still had time to play with my furbrothers. Time for bed now and FM wants to write a couple of things.

FM here.... just want to say how proud I was of Sky today. He met a great variety of people and really has a wonderful temperment. I think he could make a great therapy dog.

As I get to know Sky here are a couple of things that have changed. He would be fine as an only dog as long as he was center of someone's life. Sometimes he doesn't even want to go out with his furbrothers but would rather lay by where ever I or his FD are. I think that given enough time to bond and with some training he would be ok without a fence. He just wants to be with you. He does have a rather active prey drive. Rabbits, deer, squirrels etc....when he is on to one of them I do not think he even hears the recall and does not come. Also he is afraid of gun shots so no hunting for him. I don't know about storms yet but will try and find that out. He is a wonderful boy and anyone who would welcome him into their family would be fortunate.

Today's pictures are of Sky and one of his kitties, Rocky and playing with his ball and buddies. He is getting better about not chasing the cats - just a verbal reminder and he remembers the rules of no chase but you can sniff.

Good morning Sky Fans.....yep, it is Sky doing my own update. This week has been pretty interesting. I found out that I am afraid of fans, the kind on the ceiling, I find it uncomfortable. My FM found out I was afraid of floor fans too. Can't remember why I am but I am.....so FM and I came to an agreement, I would not worry about the fans and she would give me a treat, I liked that. But I still didn't want to go by that "monster floor fan", until "The Big Red Machine", (that's my furbro, Magic) took the lead and I followed him right up there, sniffed it and everything! Done deal nothing to be afraid of.

I had my second class at school last night. FM thought it might help my anxiety if my furbrothers rode in the car with me. So we all jumped in. ( Did I mention how much I love to ride in the car?) Magic has already finished a class there so he was pretty excited to be back, so I was too. Then just my FM and I went into class. Guess who I got to be next to? Yep, that pretty little Irish Setter. On my other side was a nine month old German Shorthair and what a cry baby. The whole time, whine, whine, whine....I could handle that but then he made eye contact with my girl and I was having none of that, I wiggled my self around so he couldn't see around me. I am so smart..... FM says this school is to teach dogs to think.....hummmm... I am thinking cookie right now. Back to last night. It went better, I was even more relaxed earlier on. Here are a couple photos of me at school. First one is my intent look. FM says I know my name and I am so handsome in this picture. Then we got "released" that is when we all get to be silly. So here is me being silly!

FM said something about swimming next week, I don't have a clue what that is but everything around here is so much fun I can't wait!

I wanted to update you on Sky. He is now enrolled in beginner obedience and we had our first class last night. As we arrived the puppy class had just gotten out. There are about twenty-five in a class and our class was just going in so imagine all these dogs and people, whining and barking and no one was under control. Sky was anxious and unsure. I would even say before we got into the building he showed some fear. There was so much barking and nervous energy that he must of thought he was back at the shelter. I was determined to make this a good experience for him. We got into the building and then into the class. Once everyone was in the room we started giving treats. It wasn't long before everyone and their dogs had started to relax and showed interest in their fur neighbors. Sky was showing interest in the pretty little girl dog next to him and couldn't wait to introduce himself. Then he wanted to say hi to everyone there. It was great to see him slip back so quickly into the Sky I had known for the last two weeks. We then went out for a break and he was sniffing and wiggle butt to every dog that would let him. He had his eye on this pretty little red head (Irish Setter), so we had to go over and greet. He is quite the social butterfly. Last night we practiced responding to his name and receive a treat. I would say "Sky" he would look, then get a treat. Sky...look .....treat......Sky....look .....treat....before long I was feeling like a Pez dispenser and he was feeling pretty much in control of his treats. He really did so well and I am so proud of him. He is such an awesome dog.

So far I have failed at trying to figure out what made this sweet dog so unwanted. He is safe now and here is a picture of the "Three Amigos" -- Sky, furbrother Magic and other furbrother River.

Hi everyone

Sky here...just thought I would let everyone know how I am doing in my foster home. I have been here two weeks now and FM says it seems like I have always been here. I wish that were true. I was found as a stray last September and went to the shelter, when no one claimed me I went up for adoption. I was adopted right away because I am so gosh darn cute, but they brought me back in only one month. They said when left unsupervised in the house I got into trouble. I must have still looked cute because in no time I was adopted out again to a person who left me on a tie out. I must have been too much trouble so they brought me back again. I was still cute so I got adopted this time for three months. But he returned me too. I was pretty much feeling like I would not ever get out of there, until Ragom got me and none too soon.

My FM is trying real hard to find the things that would make me so unwanted but she can't. I love everyone, I rarely bark, I love, love other dogs. As for cats I think they smell real interesting and sometimes I get too playful and put my paw on them but as soon as FM sees me and says "No" and gives me the "look" I come wiggle up to her and lick her hand for reassurance.

I love to be brushed and my FD gets on the floor with me and cuddles, he thinks I am the best! I am feeling like I belong now and I don't have as much nervous energy as I first did. FM plays ball in the morning with me and my furbrothers, we run around the fenced yard as fast as we can and then time for breakfast and after breakfast we all go behind the baby gates in our beds and sleep. We get to go out most days in the afternoon and play some more but if no one is home we just snuggle in and snooze and chew on our chew toys sometimes for seven hours or so. When FM comes home from work we all go for a walk.

As far as my landscaping skills go, in all fairness my furbrothers have dug many more holes then my one! Last week I got to hang out with FM friend and children. We had a great walk by Lake Superior. Here are a couple shots with my new (kid) friends. Better go - FM wants to say a few things.

FM here....I have been trying to find out why this beautiful Golden Retriever was so unwanted. The only thing he is quilty of is youthful energy, which is easily controlled with walks and some ball playing. He is quiet in the house and follows me room to room and of course has the GR pet me, pet me, pet me........At this time I think he would be fine without another dog as he is very outgoing and confident with people, yet he is submissive with other dogs, which is great. It would not be fair to him after all he has been through to go to a home and be left alone all day. If he had another dog for company it may work. I still think he needs a fence to run off that energy or a dog park he could go to often. Sky has wonderful dog skills and people skills. Please let your placement advisor know if you would like to meet this wonderful Golden. His next home needs to be his furever home.

I am pleased to report that "Sky" is now neutered and all went very well. He only had to be a "cone head" for one day. He thinks the surgery was easy compared to having to be quiet for a week. We are going on long walks that he loves. The last couple of days he got to play with a friend of mine's two children, a 12 year old boy and 14 year old girl. Sky loved them, they loved him. He does have a couple of Golden Retriever age appropiate behaviors that I want to pass on. One is he does tend to jump up on people if he gets excited and he did some landscaping for me in the yard (hole digging). The jumping will be corrected in time, the hole digging thing just might be a skill he will keep. In all fairness he just dug one hole. I think in the dog world of "Things I Just Gotta Do" digging is right up there with rolling in "smelly things"! Gotta love the Goldens! Sky is a velco dog. He wants to be with you and he really enjoys having a pack. I have only had him a week so things may change but for now this is what would make a successful adoption for Sky.

  • Needs a fenced yard.
  • Needs another dog unless he is not left home alone.
  • Needs walks, and playtime ball throwing. A tired dog is a good dog.
  • Needs obedience training and a family who will give him consistant rules, boundaries and limitations. He really responds well and just wants to please but is unsure of what you want (considering his background he really is a gem)

He takes treats gently from your hand, he does not even ask to get on the furniture. He just wants to be in the same room with you. He lays on the kitchen floor when I cook and sits nicely for his dinner. No begging. He is a wonderful dog. He really is a perfect foster but he needs structure and when he knows what you want he gives 100%.
