Molly 10-058

March 3, 2010:  Molly and her 5 puppies arrived on Saturday after a long trip up from Missouri.  As you can see, she is a beautiful, small Golden Retriever.  She is about 2.5 yrs old and very skinny. The vet said she needs to gain 15 lbs.  Other than being underweight and an ear infection, she checked out very healthy.  Because she is nursing, she is eating 8-10 cups of food a day!!!!  Wow, that’s double what my other foster, Buster 09-298 eats, and I thought he ate a lot (4 cups a day).

She is being an excellent momma to her pups and will start to wean them off of nursing. I bet she’ll be glad when that’s done   Having 5 pups “hanging on” does not look very comfortable.  She has an excellent personality---ALL Golden in every aspect. I will send an update later this week with more complete details as we get to know her.

She will not be able to go to her forever family until she is spayed.  If all goes as planned, she will be spayed in about 3-4 weeks, making her available to go to someone’s lucky family in April sometime.

Molly is doing terrific!  She and her puppies had their first bath today!  They smell really yummy and look great.  Molly is just about the most perfect Golden.....she has the Golden personality, small stature and is sweet as pie.  She has decided that it is a good time to wean her pups. One night last week I told her it was time "to be a mommy" and feed the pups and she dashed down the hallway and literally hid under my bed!!  I took that to mean she is tired of nursing :)  So, she is not sleeping with them during the night or daytime hours.  I believe she is quite relieved.  She'll nurse a little when she sees them, but not much. As soon as she is almost dried up, she will get spayed.  She has gone on several walks and really likes them. She trots along very nicely---no pulling.  She is our sweet little girl around here and we feel blessed to be able to foster her and the puppies.
