Profile

Hellooo Minnesota,

My name is Cliffy. But you can call me BRD (Big Red Dog). If you've got a couple minutes I'd like to tell my story?

Going to start with the Thank You's first. To Miss Kate, who drives her truck around Kansas City, MO filled with food, shelters, water and treats. Thank you!

She found me a year ago chained to a tree and came by almost everyday with food and water. That was the only life I knew. It started when I was a puppy. Miss Kate brought a house for me and my friends and traded my short chain for a cable. I ran away once and got hit by a car. No doctor. Now I have a bad hip. When I got back home, my owner tightened my collar really tight so I wouldn't run away again. Miss Kate tried to persuade my owner to give me up. And a year later I got rescued by Miss Jessica and Miss Kate. I went to the vet for the first time ever and got sick. Miss Jessica let me live with her for a couple days to get well. Someone called RAGOM to get me up here. I lived with Miss Summer until my third attempt at transport last week. Miss Summer wanted to keep me forever, but knew I would have a better life with RAGOM. So here I am. HUGE Big Red Dog. Hugs and kisses to everyone in Kansas City and to my transport people. And to my best friend, Bear, RIP buddy.

Yesterday Dr. B. said I'm a healthy boy except for my bum leg. I'm used to the discomfort, but I can't run and play like most dogs. I rest a lot cause of the pain. I still try to keep up with Heather 09-275, but I think that's a lost cause.

Just found out the wonderful Dr. Rasmussen is going to fix my leg in 2 weeks. I'm very greatful for that. So, there you have it. I could really use a sponsor or 2. I have nicknames around here like Sparky and couch potato. I'm living the golden life now.

I will explain Sparky when we get a good photo of how I sit and lay down.

Thank you for your time and good wishes.......Cliffy the (BRD)

A foster home has a revolving door. Sometimes it opens and closes in a week. Somtimes a month or 2 and other times it's longer between swings.

Cliffy was only with us for a month. And that was way too short. He was perfect from day one. I can't say enough good things about him. We took a chance on a BIG BOY and fell in love.

His operation was more extensive than we thought. He will require daily very short, slow walks. The muscles in his leg have atrophied to mush. He needs to build that up so he can walk on it normally. Complete recovery may take months.

He has come a long way since the tight collar and short chain 24/7 his whole life. He is happy just to be with people or relax on his back in the sun.

He will have that opportunity with his forever family. The G family adopted him tonite.

They have a ton of love just for him as their only furbutt. He may get certified for therapy at nursing homes and hospitals. And there is probably a cat in his future, lucky boy.

The BRD lives only a couple miles from us and is welcome to come over for playdates with Meg & Heather after he adjusts in his new home.

A shout out to Miss Kate (Chain of Hope), Jessica and Summer for rescuing Cliffy and taking a chance on sending him to Minnesota in the care of RAGOM. THANK YOU!

So, instead of goodbye, Cliffy, it's see ya later, turtle/goat.

We LOVE you & miss you already!...Heather 09-275, Meg, MiMi, FD & FM

Hello,

Well, here I am again. The computer was out of sorts for a week, so pardon me for the late update. I've been busy with stuff. We went to Petco looking for a Easter bonnet for me or so I thought.

I didn't get my Easter Bonnet on Sunday. I hope they forgot about it. But the really good news is the Easter bunny brought me a forever family. Evidently Heather & I are here temporarily. I'm glad they met me before my operation when I could get around and play.

This is me the night before I went under the knife, squeezing into Heather's bed.

Little did I know what fate had in store for me the next day.

My mind is fuzzy right now cause of the Tramadol & Rimadyl but I'll get ya all caught up since my last post.

YEOOOOOOWiee. I thought my leg was in bad shape before.

Now look at it.

Oh the shame of it all. The wonderful Dr. R., Dr. B. and Dr. K. say I'll get almost back to normal and be able to run without any pain. I sure hope so. My surgery was expensive. I hate to beg, but I could really use a sponsor. Anyhow, that said, as if it couldn't get any worse, I have to wear this stupid (Easter) bonnet so I don't irritate my stitches.

Well, they say my recovery is going to be about 2-3 weeks and then I go to my forever home. I can hardly wait. They live just a couple miles from here so they're coming to visit while I recover.

I'm very tired. Good nite now zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

FM here. Cliffy is trying to relax. It's hard to find a comfortable position right now. The girls give him space and he lies around. Not eating much now, but that's expected. He's such a good boy.

Helllloooo,

Oh boy, I get to write my first blog. My foster parents cannot believe how very special I am. They don't usually foster "boys" so I'm here to prove that Boys Rule & Girls Drool, or something like that. Anyhoo, now that I've been here and settled in, I'm inviting FM to explain me to you so I can take a little nap with my peeps.

OMG, This dog is perfect. I'm not kidding. He marked only once in the house the first nite he was here. And not again. I didn't see it happen, but found the evidence when I took a pic. So I didn't get the chance to correct him. Cliffy is neutered and healthy. He knows Sit, Stay, Lie down, Outside, Go poddy, Get some water, Go to bed, Go back to sleep, Down, Off. He understands a mild no no and backs off. He follows and wants to be with his people but doesn't get in the way. He has excellent recall unless he's outside with the girls.

He is quiet, sweet, loving, patient. He is totally housetrained. The first nite he woke me up to go outside. No accidents in the house or car. He had full roam of the house on day 1. He loves car rides and sits or lies quietly in the back seat. His teeth are perfect. He doesn't beg for food yet. He is at a good weight. (ok to gain 5 lbs). Cliffy is not motivated by food or treats (WHAT??) At least not yet. He'll take a treat after coaxing. He doesn't chew or destroy anything. He is very respectful of everything. He met the neighbors last nite and licked their hand through the fence. He does pull on the leash but after holding back and slowing him down, he complies easily. He is a strong boy, but lets you guide him by the collar and goes where you direct him. He ignores cats. MiMi, our cat hangs out with those 2 frequently. He LOVEs the couch. His activity level is growing and I think will increase when he's not favoring his leg. We call him Sparky because he contorts his legs behind him when he sits and lies down.

He is very very smart. We are big fans of obedience class, but I don't think he needs it. He will be a quick study for anything he doesn't already understand and definitely would be an awesome therapy dog.

Susan, a 3 x RAGOM adopter (foster failure) and her furbutts are coming tomorrow for a dog party. Cliffy may stress his leg if he plays with them so it willl be girls only. We'll see how he is with boy dogs at his Ollu grooming Sunday. We think Cliffy is a golden mix, possibly shepherd, hound or lab. Whatever his mix, he has a golden heart and playful spirit like Heather.

I would like him to have a fence or looooong tieout to set boundaries. but he may not need either if he gets out for exercise. He's content to just sit on the deck now.

To summarize:

  • Cats are OK
  • Only dog or furbutt siblings are OK
  • MUST have couch he can stretch out on
  • Dog bed in your bedroom (he would like to sleep with you but can't jump up now)
  • Someone to love him unconditionally with lots of cuddle time
  • BFF

Cliffy the BRD isn't available until after his hip surgery and recovery, probably the last week of April. He will be a wonderful addition to any family. Contact your placement advisor if you want to meet this incredible boy and give him the golden life he deserves.
