Jeffrey (aka "Jeffy") is a gorgeous purebred Golden that came to RAGOM from a very loving family in the Twin Cities whose financial situation had changed to the point where they could no longer support a pet. He is a sweetheart that follows me all over the house and loves getting his belly rubbed. Despite his 60 lbs, he is very submissive with our young, resident Golden (85 lbs). He likes to play but gets scared when our Golden chases him. I think he would do well as an only dog or with an older dog that doesn’t jump on him all the time.
He follows basic commands but will need some follow up obedience training on commands such as “stay” and “come” (he knows what they mean but sometimes chooses not to listen). He will also jump up when he gets really excited or when I have a treat in my hand but he is already showing improvement on that. Jeffy is house trained. He simply goes to the door when he wants to be let out and then lays by the door when he is done and ready to come back in. He is crate trained and has been spending the nights in his crate with no complaints. His former family says that he will guard his food with a growl but a RAGOM volunteer confirmed that this does not escalated into biting. He was not frequently allowed into the kitchen at his previous house and he has exhibited a keen interest in the smells in his foster kitchen, but we have not caught him counter surfing yet (but we wouldn't put it past him). He is neutered and was brought up to date on all of his shots this week. All in all, he is a very friendly dog that loves and seeks out attention. Since he has been reported to growl in specific situations involving food, I think it would be best if he found a family with no children under 5.
