Milo (10-051) went to the Rainbow Bridge on July 6, 2019. He was 14 and a half years old. He was our best dog ever!

Milo had a hard life before he came to RAGOM but then there was light. RAGOM provided him the eye surgery he needed in order to regain sight in his right eye.

We were elated when we could take Milo home. He went everywhere with us. As long as he was with us, he was happy.

Milo was as devoted to us as we were to him. Every night after dinner he would sit by the back door waiting for his nightly walk by the lake, an activity he especially loved. Milo will always be part of our family and is deeply missed every day.

Milo here:

Just wanted to tell everyone that has helped me in my journey from my rescue to ALL the sponsors and gift givers all the way to my forever family----thanks so much. I was abandoned & afraid, cold & hungry and hurt, but now I am safe and secure and I CAN SEE!!! What a gift.

I can see a tennis ball and can pick them up (not really sure what to do with it), as well as my dog food bowl (this one is very important), I could see Moose and I can see FM and now I am with my forever family and I can see them and the other dogs and the world outside. For me life is just beginning and I have surely forgotten how it was before. Many great hearts and warm and kind hands have completely changed my life.

Licks and kisses and shakes :-}

FM here: Dr O told me that Milo’s progress on his eye is wonderful, he can see very well now, his depth perception is going to take time to adjust but he said that will come with time. Dr. O felt that Milo has not been able to see since a very young age and is so very blessed with the gift of sight. He was able to watch the cotton balls that the doctor was dropping on the floor and he was able to take the treats from his hand. When we first arrived at the last visit for Milo, when the cone was removed off of his head and the doctor and nurse where looking at him he turned his head over my way just to look at me assuring that I was still in the room with him, wonderful to see. Days after surgery Milo was sitting out on the deck, just looking around, it was the most wonderful sight to see. Milo did not run into the patio door, he was able to see the bed and could join us to snuggle. His life is just opening up, but Ragom you gave him that.

Thanks to everyone that helped in Milo’s progress and all of you that did so financially. Please keep Milo in your thoughts!!! And maybe we could all see him again soon. I have never been more thrilled to pass Milo off to a terrific forever family……………..Happy trails!!!

I am writing this note with so much excitement for Milo, yesterday Milo met an amazing family that wants to have him come home with them. I loved both of them and both of their dogs and so did Milo....(and Moose). They are perfect!!! They are so excited to get him....so with pleasure I get to tell you that Milo has met His FOREVER family.

This sweet guy deserves the best and I believe that he will get just that. Lucky Milo :-} YIPPI.

Milo said he would do the happy dance if I took off the cone....No can DO!!!

Friday, March 12, 2010

Well today is Friday and I stayed home with Milo to keep a watch on him and snuggle. He is still very distraught over the cone!!! I am pretty sure that the cone is his biggest obstacle right now. We do have him sedated or he thrashes his head around. So we are having a rainy day, movie day snuggle on the couch.

Here is a few firsts for him: he did see me getting him out of the kennel, he saw his bowl of food getting put on the floor and he stopped to get a good look at Moose this a.m. If he could just mellow out without freaking about the cone I think we would see more progress. But we just need to give him a bit more time. His eye is still kept closed alot!! Milo's getting better about drops in the eyes (that is a bonus for me). He is a very strong willed sweet guy that has fended on his own for so long all of this acitvity is a bit overwhelming. No matter what you do for him his tail is always thumping on the couch or kennel. He is so happy all the time...(well, besides the cone). Well so long for now here are a couple of pics from this a.m.

This last picture is of Moose staring at Milo on the couch. If I had to guess what he was thinking he would say....dude get that thing off your head and get off the couch and get down here to play with me!!! Moose is a very good big brother right now.

Poor Milo is so groggy that he has done nothing but sleep!! We have a very strict schedule of drops and meds for the next 2 days. Tomorrow I think we should see a little guy that will be a bit more alert. He is trying so hard to open his eye but it hurts. So I will keep everyone posted everyday. I have a couple of pics for you. One before we went into the office and said goodbye and one on the couch with me. His eye is ouchy!!!

The doctor took some great pics of the whole process for me and I will post those over the weekend so that you can see them. Last night I gave him a treat (a beater) to lick.

Gotta go and snuggle with him now!!! LOL for everyone

Foster Mom here and I am shouting praises for the sponsors of my sweet Milo. Milo now includes sponsors Shayna M and Joyce M to add to the list of people that have helped him out with his sight. WOW I hope that all of you know just how amazing this is for this sweet adorable boy who, because of all of you, next week....he will see again and it is BECAUSE of BIG hearted people like you that this will happen .

Now.....to all you wonderful loving fantastic people that donated to help Milo with his sight YOU are what makes this wonderful world go around. Love for all creatures big and small. You will reap what you sow and may your blessing be as great as what you are doing for Milo.

I will try to capture the moments for everyone so you can enjoy the thrill of this ride!!! To get to see him hear my voice and my face for the first time - wow I am excited and all of you will all have a piece of that. Thank you, thank you!!!!

Here are a few more pics of Milo and his BFF playing in the snow.

Monday was my day at the ophthalmologist and I had my eyes completely and thoroughly looked at, and a lot of drops in my eyes. So here are the results that the specialist has told my foster mom:

  1. Milo’s retinal testing today shows that he has a partial retinal detachment in the left eye. There is the option of removing the cataract but the retinal detachment will progress and he will become blind in that eye. Please note that this may have been due to neglect and poor nutrition from people who simply could have taken care of him.
  2. Milo’s right eye however IS suitable for surgery. He WOULD operate on this eye and feels that Milo will have 90% of his vision and it would last for the remainder of his life. After surgery Milo will require ONE drop in his eyes for the rest of his life. The drops can be purchased at any pharmacy. Sooooooooooo this is FANTASTIC NEWS!!!

This surgery is very expensive so if there is anyone out there that would like to donate to Milo’s surgery and help this wonderful puppy have the life that he really deserves, please give anything that you can. According to the doctor Milo has had these cataracts for at least 3 years that means he has not been able to see very well since he was 2. Milo has been out on his own fending for himself for a long time……it is HIS time now, please help us help him. Go online to Ragom and tell them you want to give MILO his chance to see.

Milo is a really sweet boy who deserves this chance and a wonderful FOREVER home!!!

Thank you all for following his story and any help you can give.

Hello everyone - just a quick note to thank all of you that came to see Milo at the Plymouth Chuck and Don's. He loves to be loved up and there was an abundance of that for sure.

But today I want to especially thank CONNIE J for being Milo’s sponsor, what would we do without kind hearted, loving, generous amazing people like you! You are so wonderful, and the BEST part - we got to meet Connie at the event on Saturday. You came to see us too……..wow we are so lucky. Well she also bought Milo a toy and some of the other Ragom dogs got one too. Thank you so much for everything, we love U.

Tomorrow we are going to see the eye doctor and I will let you know what he thinks!!! Thanks for keeping tabs on me lol.

Here are just a few pics with my BFF!!!

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Hi there everyone Milo here!!! Please don’t tell my Foster Mom that I am up at the desk typing. I am so very happy I cry all the time!!! That good cry thanking you for feeding me and letting me back in the house and letting me out of the kennel in the morning and letting me sleep on the couch!!! I have a new BFF who I follow around and trust that he will not lead me astray!! Sometimes he is not SO good!! I know how to maneuver around the house (I am a quick learner) and I really love the room that has all the food in it. I get all kinds of goodies and kisses and loves and kind hands!!!

I have a little infection in my front paws and so I have some medicine for that but I am super healthy, I love to please you, I love when you pet me, I will keep my head on your lap if you want me to………forever.

We go to the eye doctor on Monday I really hope that they can do something so I can see again!! I have been in this dark scary place to long for a young little fella as myself. But if nothing can be done (we do not want to put too much energy in this direction) I will still be so happy. To me right now the world is a pretty awesome place from where I was and getting to see, well that would take the cake!!!

Sorry I have to be done now my BFF is trying to play with me and he is slobbering all over my head!!!

Thanks to everyone that is watching my progress, I am the happiest golden in the whole wide world. Do you WANT to share in my fantastic journey???? Enjoy the pics.

Foster Mom and I will be at Chuck and Don's in Plymouth this Saturday, February 27th, from noon until 1PM!!

Well Hello everyone my name is Milo aka Leo, but I will respond to any kind voice that talks to me!!!

Please let me first start out by thanking the sheriff of Kandiyohi County for saving my life and removing me from a very poor and neglectful situation that will offer me the life that I deserve.

To the amazing and wonderful Humane Society of Kandiyohi County Hawk Creek Animal Shelter for taking me in and feeding me and loving me and giving me safety (and a bath….thanks Lavonna) and love in my very scary world. If it were not places like you dogs like me would DIE!!

Then the animal shelter decided what was in the best interest of ME which was to surrender me to RAGOM (because I am a gorgeous Golden) so that I could get the best life ever and get the vetting and health care that I deserve!!! I will require some specialty vetting for my eyes. Thank you with all the love and kisses I can hand out!!!

I have been in many places since last week and have traveled around but am now in Dayton MN with my Foster Mom and Moose!! I am blind and cannot see at all so my world is scary and dark!!

I went to the vet and had a complete work over and the results are….….drum roll please... AWESOME. I am very healthy, everything looks great and NO diabetes, YAH for ME. Also I appear to be a golden that does not have skin issues and my ears looked great that is really good news too!!!

I have a safe place to be now, and food (I love food considering I did not get any and had to fend for myself). Yummy food and water I get it in the morning and again in the evening. I have my kennel to slip away and sleep in and a COUCH -- man, this thing beats the outside and cold for sure.

I am a very happy dog and my tail is always wagging. I am thrilled with any attention….and I need to be next to you. I love to be loved up and my foster mom calls my paws “the claw” -  I love to put my front paws up on you and reach for you. So far all I can tell you is that I am safe and loved and have food and water and security right now and I thank everyone involved for helping me get here. Now my FM wants to talk------oh bother I was not done!!!

Wow I want to tell you that Milo is so beautiful and sweet and a smaller golden, but with all the wonderful Golden attributes. Milo is around 5 and very playful and puppy like, he is a love bug and loves to snuggle with you. Milo weighs about 56 pounds and is very skinny, you can see he is boney.

Milo is blind with mature cataracts but seems to have found his way around my house very well. He trusts your voice and will follow you, he needs your voice and his nose to get him around. I took him and Moose for a walk last night and he is not the best walker - he pulls a bit but with guidance I have no doubt he can learn to walk well and be so pleased to get a walk with you.

We have a doctor appointment to have his eyes looked at by an ophthalmologist on Monday March 1. Please cross your toes and fingers that the cataracts can be removed and he will be able to see again.

His coat is soft and beautiful all the feathers had to be cut off his tail and legs and butt due to his matted and smelly condition. But when all this grows back in he will be stunningly pretty. All I know is that this sweet boy will make someone a wonderful dog!!! If you think that you want to have a beautiful boy like me in your life just fill out the paperwork and you could be my NEW forever home. Milo will be forever grateful and bless your life.
