Happy Spring!! So Roger has had quite an exciting weekend. His regular foster family went out of town, so we were lucky enough to get to temp foster him. He has been such a GREAT guest. He arrived on Thursday and met our resident golden and pretty much ignored her crazy attempts to welcome him to our house. He did do one growl when she got too close, but that’s not crazy considering he had no idea what was happening and why he was in a new house. That night, we sat outside around the fire pit and he wanted the stick Savannah was chewing on. He took it from her and was a bit growly, but was respectful when I went to take it from him. Other than that, he has settled in and we haven’t heard another peep from him, even during the night. He’s been a perfect gentleman.
Roger really just likes to chill with people. He would make such a great companion to someone that doesn’t expect a lot of activity. While I watch TV, he just lays at my feet. He will nudge for loves and pets, but not in an annoying way. It’s more that he wants to say “Thank you for caring.” Roger has those gentle senior eyes that will just melt your heart.
We gave Roger a bit of a makeover by cleaning his ears, giving him a bath (which he tolerated), and lots of brushing. I’m pretty sure his forever family will want to invest in the Furminator! He likes to get brushed, but he does produce quite a bit of hair. I guess that’s just part of being a dog! Being that he was a stray, we don’t know how many grooming sessions he has had, but he takes them like a champ.
Because of his joints, I was told stairs can be a bit difficult for Roger. I have been very surprised because he has done quite well going up and down the stairs from our deck (7 steps). In addition to handling the deck stairs, it turns out he likes couches and has no problem curling up on one! I think he might enjoy a nice comfy couch in his forever home. Do you have one that you want to share with a sweet pup? We put up the baby gates when we leave or go to bed, and he has done great. He hasn’t tried to counter surf or chew on anything inappropriate. I would call him the perfect houseguest. We’ve only had him for a few days, but I would definitely recommend Roger to anyone wanting a distinguished senior to share their life with. If you would like to meet Roger, I’m sure his FM would love to set up a meeting, just contact your Placement Advisor. You would be a lucky family. I’ve attached a couple pictures of his stay with us. He loves to chase this pink ball and throws it back and forth in his mouth—so cute. Needless to say, he’s going home with this new favorite toy! Hope you enjoy the pictures of this sweet boy!
To Roger,
Thanks for being such a great dog! We hope you find your forever home soon. You deserve it! You’re always welcome to come visit us anytime! Best wishes, sweet senior! Love, temporary FM, FD, and Savannah
