Goldie 10-035

Profile

Please welcome Goldie 10-035 into the RAGOM family!  Goldie is a 9 year old Golden wannabe. She's a purebred yellow Lab, which is basically a Golden in a sassy short coat. My husband calls her a "sistah from another mistah." Her family had a change in circumstance and through no fault of her own, this little cutiepie is now in RAGOM's care.  Goldie should have been named Cindy Crawford for her fetching dark mole on her upper lip. She's also got Cindy's beautiful dark brown eyes, super model figure and a catwalk wiggle in her walk!   Unlike Cindy Crawford, Goldie has a pretty bad allergic reaction going on. She's got two large hot spots on her hips and other areas of redness and itchiness on her skin. She spent a few hours at the vet today getting shaved and cleaned up and is already feeling better. She has some pills to take that will help reduce the inflammation and reaction from the inside out. She's also going to transition to a high-quality non-allergenic dog food that is chock full of fish oils and omega 3 fatty acids.  Her ears were a little red but not infected. Yay!  Her heartworm and poop-test came back negative, so there's no nasty stowaways joining the party.  Goldie weighed 66.3 pounds and is very lean and trim, and a great weight so as to not stress her hips or knees.  Goldie has been trained as a hunting dog in her past and is really good at fetching and dropping. She will make someone a very loveable companion who likes to fetch, but won't go bonkers begging to play. She's really mellow and sweet. She loves being petted and groomed and really likes chin scritches.  She shows interest in our garbage can, but it's covered and we put it away at night to reduce temptation. She is very interested in food preparation and is working on a career as a sous chef.  She doesn't counter surf....yet...but we don't leave temptation out.   We are woking on giving her some comfort-time in a crate.  She is not entirely cat trustworthy. She was startled last night when Flying Cat landed with a thud very close to her and today she's been plotting payback.  The cats are faster and have vertical capability, so we aren't terribly worried that she will hurt them. But removing temptation is best untl she's relaxed and acclimated to them. Her previous family indicated that she was great with kids of all ages. She sleeps on her dog bed in our room. She paced last night, but it was due to her itchies.  She is a bit of a talker. She has a soft woofwoof is she wants something and makes all sorts of whines and grunts and huffs and whistles. She's not a barker, but definately likes to chat.  Goldie is looking for a loving forever home that will be committed to walking her, watching for her allergic reactions and treating them promptly and loving the stuffing right out of her. She's a sweet girl and wondering why she's had this big change in her life. I keep telling her that she's won the doggy lottery by becoming a RAGOM dog.  She is good with kids, adults, other dogs and probably cats once she learns they usually walk and not fly.  Watch this Update for more on Goldie!  If you think you'd like to meet Goldie and make her a permanent member of your family, contact your Placement Advisor!

Hi Everyone! Goldie Cindy Crawford here!  I'm sorry it's been so long since my last update...I've been busy!   Life has been great.  I'm so happy spring is finally here! I can go on lots and lots of walks!!  Me and Shaner walk side-by-side then come home and play! My fostermom is happy about that. I've heard some pretty awful rumors about him eating other fosterdogs, but he's always been really nice to me! Must be my sunny smile and winning personality.  I had to go back to the vet a week or so ago. I was coming in from playing in the yard with a bloody paw. My fostermom has tile on the floor and was following behind me with a paper towel trying to figure out what I'd done to my paw. She thought I tore it on ice from the glacier in the back yard. But it turned out that I had a yeast infection in the webbing between my toes!  It was irritated and would get kind of icky when I'd go out on the ice.  I got more Medrol to take and some anti-yeast ointment and foot wash. My foot feels a lot better and I'm not leaving crime scene evidence in the house anymore. The vet said that's another symptom of my underlying skin sensitivities. My hot spots are all cleared up and the hair is growning back in. I don't lick or itch or scratch anymore either. My ears are nice and pink too. Not red and smelly.   The Medrol is a type of steroid that I will probably have to be on the rest of my life. I don't think it's expensive and it's really helpful for my allergies.  I am currently eating regular dog food called Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul. It's really good and so far, I haven't had an allergic reaction to it. I also get Green Tripe which is YUMMY!  I am still trying to catch one of those furry moveable noisemaking dog toys. They are a little too fast for me, but it sure is fun to make them jump.  My foster family figured out a game I really like to play. They show me a toy, then put me in a sit stay, then they go to another room and hide the toy. Then they come out and tell me to retrieve the toy. I'm almost always right on and bring the right toy back!  I also love to fetch and walk and sit like a statue for my dinner. My favorite treats are raw bones, rawhides, peanut butter, carrots, berries, chicken, cats, rabbit poop, anything my fostermom drops and...oh! Frosty Paws.  I am planning on being at Leashes and Leads in Rochester on Saturday March 27 if you'd like to come meet me.  I'd love to find my forever family, even though I'm really digging on my fostermom and dad. They are super nice to me. But I'd love a family to call my very own. I'm a really nice girl, and in spite of my love of cats, I could live in a forever home with cats. As long as they are faster than me. I also met some kids the other day and I LOVED them. I almost followed them down the driveway. They were also carrying Girl Scout cookies. Which, ok, kids--cookies...I'll take either.  Anyhow, see you at Leashes and Leads on Saturday!!   *Smooches!*Goldie

Happy Spring!

Hi Everyone!

Goldie Cindy Crawford here. My fostermom said since I was such a good dog and behaving myself, she'd let me use her laptop! I've been surfing the internet. My favorite website so far is RAGOM.org but I also like National Geographic and Facebook. I like music too, and have Three Dog Night as a favorite on Pandora.

Anyhow, life has been pretty darn good here. The medicine I'm on has really helped my itchy hot spots. They are just a tiny bit red now, and the hair is starting to grow in!  I sit very nice to get my ear drops and ointment rub. I like that because I get a chin scritch and a treat.  Speaking of treats? I have two words: Frosty Paws. Wow. Where have you been all my life?

I discovered the toy basket under the bed. Did you know that these people have a BIG basket of dog toys under their bed?  Holy Moses. My fostermom was sitting on the bed reading and heard "screech screeech screeeeech" and looked down and I'd pulled the basket out and was shoulders-deep checking out all the goodies! There's ropes, fleece ropes, kongs, stuffed toys that squeak, stuffed toys that don't, and toys that aren't stuffed and don't squeak. I pulled almost every toy out of the basket, giving each one a firm shake before moving on to the next toy. I settled on a fleecy lamb that makes a fun ba-a-a-a sound. Then I turned around and tried to shake the one toy I have yet to catch, the big hairy one that goes "Hiisssss" and "RROOWWRRR."  My fostermom told me to "leave it!" and it got away. Again. sigh.

I really love going for walks. I know the word "walk", I know the letters "double you aye el kay" and the other words "do you want to..." I get very excited and happy tail and wiggly body and whine talk whine whistle whine whoowhoo!  I walk very nicely, I'm focused, don't stop to pee or poop or sniff. I have a job and that's to walk! Double you ay el kay!

My fostermom told me a secret. I can keep really good secrets but this is one I don't think I can contain. I might be meeting a family this weekend!! I'm so excited! When my fostermom told me tonight I danced around the kitchen and then went and got the lamb and gave it a good shake and it went ba-a-a-a-a.

Well, I have to go. My fostermom just opened the freezer door and I think ...oh...oh...YES! Frosty Paws! Gotta go! Love you!

Smooches...Goldie Cindy Crawford
