It is always a sad day when we have to help our golden friends to the Rainbow Bridge. But it is even sadder when they are young, loving creatures. That is the case with sweet Valerie. If you looked in the dictionary under Velcro Dog......you would see her picture. All she wanted was to be near a human. If you didn't pet her, she would lean on you or lay her head on your leg. If that didn't work, she would put her front feet on you. She had to be close. Was this because she spent a month in the shelter or is it because she never felt the love of a human? We will never know. But neglect let the undiagnosed diabetes advance to the point of needing insulin shots twice a day and a prognosis of future blindness due to cataracts. All of this at age 3.

We got to have the pleasure of fostering this little girl for 10 short days. She felt our love and slept on our beds. How she loved the human bed!! So soft and comfy. And a nice lap with the constant touch of a human. Things she probably had not experienced! But, as the days went by she decided these were things that she didn't want to give up without a fight. This led to growling, snarling, snapping and eventually a nasty bite when asked to get off the bed, off our laps or into her crate. As sweet as she was, there was another side of her that made her unadoptable. We could not take a chance that a small child would be on the receiving end of her anger. And if she had these issues now, how would they manifest as she lost her sight?

So Valerie is now at the Bridge with all the other RAGOM angels. Run sweet girl and know that you touched our hearts in the short time we knew you. We will touch the pretty box that contains your ashes and we will remember the petite girl that loved to snuggle on the bed or in our laps and the sweet kisses that you gave. All our love till we meet again.
