Madge (Chloe 10-014)

Profile

Meet cute Chloe and adorable Ava!  Born on Nov. 21, 2009, these seven week old little girls are as sweet as sugar.  Chloe is coal colored and Ava is golden colored and both are just gorgeous.  This past Sunday, they and five other female littermates arrived at RAGOM as a result of an accidental mating.  Ava takes after her father, a Golden Retriever and Chloe looks like her mother, a black Lab.

"The girls" have acquired a few nicknames from their foster family - Salt and Pepper, Vanilla and Cocoa, Night and Day.  Don't let their divergent coloring fool you though - BOTH are absolute sweethearts.  They adore affection and will take as much as you have to offer.  Neither of these little dolls seems to realize that they are going to be lovely ladies one day, as they are both vying for positions as career lap dogs.

Since they arrived at their foster family's home on Sunday afternoon they have spent a lot of time running around outside - LOTS of short trips for potty training.  Thank goodness, it has warmed up a bit!  They are very similar to the Baby Alive doll that their five year old foster sister owns - give them water and food and almost immediately they need to potty.  So we have our running shoes on around here.  They have been here four days now and they are starting to get the hang of heading toward the door on their own when they need to go potty.

The girls love to amuse themselves by playing "chase and roll" with each other.  Other recreational activities include: playing with their foster sister and one year old foster brother, following the resident Golden about the house and chewing on lots of different types of dog chews and toys.

At night they snuggle up together in their crate.  They usually conk out around 11 pm after a long day of playing and napping.  They take a potty break around 2 am and one at 5 am, and then they are up for the day around 7 am.

Any adopter will be so fortunate to welcome either of these gentle girls into their families.  When contemplating adoption these special girls, please consider that they will require a lot of frontloading - training while they are young really pays dividends when your pretty puppy grows into an adult dog.  A well trained puppy will become a beloved family member who will reward you with a lifetime of love, loyalty and companionship.

CHLOE'S VET NOTES:  Chloe had her first ever visit to the vet on Wednesday.  She received her first vaccination and had an exam.  Her exam revealed that she does have a grade 2 heart murmur.  This is on a scale of 1 to 6, where a score of 1 is the least severe.  This type of heart murmur is considered be innocent/functional and often a type 1 or 2 heart murmur will resolve by 18 weeks.  Follow up exams will be needed to determine if the murmur has resolved or if additional testing will be necessary.

Chloe's fecal sample was negative for roundworms.  However, as she shares a crate with her sister Ava, she received a dose of Pyrantel too and will also receive a follow up dose in two weeks.

Chloe is scheduled to be spayed and microchipped next Thursday.  She will spend the night at the vet and a couple of weeks recovering at home.

Chloe will be available for adoption after she is spayed. If you are interested in meeting this charming girl (be ready to fall in love), please contact your RAGOM placement advisor.

Wow!  So much to report since Chloe's last update.  She has been a busy little girl.  She and here sister Ava 10-009 have been so busy playing, playing, playing over the past couple of weeks.  She has spent a lot time outdoors when the weather allows.  Otherwise, she loves running around inside, playing tug with her sister and a stuffed toy, chewing beef marrow bones and fetching a tennis ball.  She has had company visit from California, so she got a lot of extra love, attention and socialization.

She knows her name now and has mastered the sit command.  She is working really hard on potty training.  She is a really smart and attentive girl, who will enjoy a forever family that spends a lot of time teaching and training her, and exercising her mind.  She has a great brain and loves to use it.  We call her Houdini - it took her no time at all to figure out how to contort her little body so that she can go THROUGH the baby gate and she is fast at it too.  Foster mom kept thinking that she was coming through the gate when she opened it, until she watched her do it.  We took down the baby gate until she gets bigger and can't fit through it.  Surprisingly, she stays on the main floor without it!  She just loves to be by people and really loves to be held and cuddled.  She is a sweet, energetic and very smart girl - what better combination could there be?

Last week Chloe was spayed and microchipped.  She has done really well recovering.  She'll get her sutures removed next week.  Her foster mom is extremely happy to report that the vet's notes from her surgery report state, "The heart sounds are clear with no murmurs or arrhythmia heard".  Yeah!!!  Just we wanted to hear.  Her sister Ava received the same report - so we were ecstatic to hear that the girls are heart murmur free now.  Chloe had also gained 2 pounds from her initial vet visit to her surgery - in only a week!  She is growing like a weed, foster mom estimates that she is now about 13 pounds.  She is sleek and has long lean legs - just what every girl wants.

Chloe and Ava had an extra special day out on Saturday.  They went to go visit Charlie, a newly adopted RAGOM puppy in his new home.  They had a great time playing with him and were thoroughly exhausted by the time the afternoon was over!  Foster mom was so happy to see her first foster baby doing so well with his new family and enjoyed watching him play with Chloe and Ava.

Chloe's sister Ava was adopted yesterday, so she is now more than ever before a Velcro girl to her foster mom.  She spent all last evening sleeping on foster mom's lap while she indulged in watching a movie.  She is also buddying up now to the resident Golden and will catch a wink curled up next to her when there isn't a human lap available.  Foster mom also thinks it's adorable that she lays at her feet while she does the dishes - but the heat vent is right there too, so maybe she just likes to feel cozy.  Last night, foster mom, brought her crate and placed it beside her bed.  She was worried that she would be really lonely without her sister around.  She did just fine sleeping by herself, but it is much quieter here today without two puppies playing all day.  Chloe is sitting on her foster mom's lap as she writes this update and being very generous with her puppy kisses  - so foster mom thinks it is time to go play for awhile...

Chloe will be at PetCo in Richfield this Saturday from 12:30-1:30 pm.  If you are interested in this smart girl - come and visit!
