Peaches 09-529

Profile

Meet Peaches! Peaches is a GORGEOUS 8 yr old, PB, female Golden Retriever. She is UTD on all of her vaccinations, spayed and received a clean bill of health this week at the vet! The only suggestion that the vet had for her would be to lose about 5 pounds (She currently weighs 70 lbs), so we are working on that!

Peaches has lived outdoors in a kennel her entire life. She has had a few litters and now that she is done having puppies, she has been welcomed into RAGOM to find her forever family!! She is the sweetest girl and we are amazed at how well she is doing, given that she has lived outdoors her whole life!! She has not had any accidents since we picked her up a week ago and has does not chew on anything inappropriate. She had a little issue with resource guarding when eating her food, but a simple "no" and she stopped immediately. We have not seen her do any guarding since, but we do watch the dogs eat and make sure we separate their bowls. She does not mind her crate and is crated during the day while we're at work. At night we let her sleep out of her crate with us and she does just fine. We are working on learning how she would do being out of the crate during the day, so more to come on that!

She learns new things really fast and watches our resident Golden closely. She has already overcome her fear of the stairs! When we got her, she did not know how to climb up or go down them. Today we had a break through, as she climbed up and down them with no problem!! Yeah Peaches!! All it took was a little time and she got it! Now that she has the stairs down, you'd never know that she has lived outdoors her whole life!!

Peaches LOVES all people, big and small! We would describe her activity level as moderate and definitely say that even though she is 8 years old, she still has a lot of spunk! She LOVES to go for walks and will even jog by your side if you wanted her to. She does very well with her Gentle Leader. She is a really awesome dog because she is ready and willing to do whatever you want to do. If you want to go for a walk, she'll join you! If you want to lay around and watch tv, she'll do the same! She is very easy going! We have fallen in love with her already! :)

We took Peaches into the groomer this week, as she needed a professional's touch. She was covered in mats when we got her. The groomer cleaned her up real nice and she looks beautiful!! The groomer did have to cut off a considerable amount of hair; however, now the new hair can grow back healthy!!

Here is a list of some things we would like to see for Peaches forever home:

1. A fenced in yard
2. A family that is willing to give her plenty of walks
3. Someone who is willing to keep working with her and teach her the ropes, she learns quickly, so it wouldn't take much!
4. Someone who is looking for a sweet gal that is always happy and enjoys being part of the family!

Updates

Peaches had another great week. She is just a wonderful, easy dog! I know I say that with every update, but I just can't say it enough! Today we went for a walk at a park by the Mississippi River. The "Golden Girls", which is what we call them, were very excited to be going somewhere new! They got into the car with eager anticipation and smiled the whole car ride! They couldn't wait for all the new scents and sights :) This was the first time we walked Peaches on a leash without her Gentle Leader. We are happy to report that she did wonderful walking with a regular flat collar! She walked by our side the whole time and did not pull on the leash. For a girl who had never been walked before, she does spectacular!! We ran into all kinds of people at the park who asked if they could pet Peaches because she is so beautiful and friendly. We had to convince one person that she really was 8 years old because he thought she was much, much younger looking! What a nice compliment, Peach! We are continuously amazed by this wonderful girl and how quickly she has adapted to being a house dog. She has transitioned into her new life almost seamlessly and has been such an easy and welcomed addition into our household. We are so proud of our foster girl!

If you are looking for the best companion out there, then Peaches is for you. Please contact placement if you would like to discuss the possibility of welcoming Peaches into your home :) She would be fine as the only dog or with another dog that is as mellow and sweet as she is. She is a pretty easy going gal that is just looking for the right fit.

p.s. Check out the new pictures of Peaches! As you can sort of tell, her hair is starting to grow back in! We can't wait to see that beautiful Golden hair come in!! What a beauty!

Hello to all of Peaches fans! Last weekend we went out to Petco in West Saint Paul and we were happy to see so many people that stopped by to say hi to Peaches! She seems to be a hit everywhere she goes. People keep asking me if she is a PB Golden, so I want to restate that YES, she is a PB and she will be looking much more like a Golden once her beautiful hair grows back in :) Unfortunately, she was so badly matted that we had to have her shaved down. People are always impressed by her gentle and mellow personality. She is just an easy going gal that is happy to be with her people and doesn’t require much from you. She just wants to be loved and in return, you will get enormous amounts of love back! For example, I wasn’t feeling too well the other day and Peaches came and laid by me all evening. She could sense I wasn’t well and gave me so much TLC just by her presence. She is one of the best companion dogs that anyone could ask for. As her foster mom and dad, we are very surprised that she still has not found her forever family as she is truly one of the easiest, sweetest dogs we’ve had the pleasure of knowing! She is house trained, loves riding in the car, gets along with people big and small, gets along with other dogs, walks well on her leash, has no anxiety, loves to cuddle up next to you, is always happy and smiling and has the best personality! She met a wonderful family about a week ago, but unfortunately for Peaches, she did not really feel comfortable around their cats, so it didn’t work out. She truly would fit into just about any other situation. If you think Peaches might be the right fit for you, let Placement know. This gal might be 8 years old, but she sure has a lot of life left in her :)

Peaches continues to be an awesome dog! She is so easy going and so sweet! We are really enjoying our time with our sweet Peach :) Both my husband and I are just loving this girl up and giving her all kinds of attention. She deserves to have lots of love and attention because she has spent way too much of her time outside in her previous life! She loves people so much and you can tell that she is so appreciative of her new life! She loves affection, but isn’t over the top about trying to get it … unlike our resident who we have nicknamed the “Diva” ;-) Peaches will come up to you for a good ear scratch or belly rub, but if you stop she will lay down at your feet. It’s quite hard to stop petting this gal, though! That smile on her face when she is getting her belly rubs is just priceless!! She is definitely a Velcro dog and really enjoys being in the same room as her people. She will make a very lucky family an excellent companion :) Initially we thought she should have another dog in the house, but as time goes on we have realized that this is not necessary. Although she gets along well with other dogs and could easily be in a home with another fur sibling, she would also be fine on her own. She just loves her people so much! I think that would be enough for her :)

I thought she walked well on her leash before, but now she is a total pro with her Gentle Leader! She walks right by my side if I want her to. We know she loves her walks because she smiles and wags her tail the whole time! While we walk, I can actually feel her tail hitting the back of my knees!! It’s pretty funny and cute!! She also loves to run around in the snow and play with our resident Golden. We took them to my Aunt's house this weekend and let them play in her huge fenced in yard, which has paths plowed through the deep snow. It was basically a snow maze and the dogs just LOVED it! They were running and jumping through the deep snow like they were little puppies! It was so much fun to see Peaches enjoying her time outside and having some fun with her foster sister, Nellie. By the way she was running around the yard, you’d never know this girl is 8 years old! Of course when we got back home, both dogs were totally pooped and spent the rest of the evening chilled out on their doggie beds! I have included some pictures, so be sure to check them out!

It’s been a little over a week since Peaches has had free roam of the house while we’re gone and she has done spectacular! She has not gotten into anything she shouldn’t. We trust her completely in the house. Yay Peaches!! She has also mastered “sit” and we are working on her other basic commands. When it’s dinner time, we have both dogs sit before we set their bowls down. Peaches listens so well and is always the first to sit down. Since she is first to listen to me, she gets her bowl placed down first. What a good girl she is!!

We did confirm that Peaches would probably be better off in a home without cats. She just has not been exposed to them enough to be comfortable. She just doesn't know what to think of them!

I can’t say it enough … Peaches is truly one of the best dogs I have had the pleasure of knowing. She is smart, funny, loving, happy and easy going. What more could you want in a dog?!

We will be at the Petco in West Saint Paul this Saturday from 11-12. Come out and say hi to sweet Peach.

As time goes by, we are learning more and more about our sweet Peach! She has done very well out of her crate while we are away from the home. Needless to say, she has earned herself free roam while we're at work, etc! Yay Peach! She also LOVES to sleep with her FM and FD at night. I woke up this morning to 70 pounds of love at my feet!! The funny thing was that I didn't even realize she was there because she was such a good little (or should I say big?) sleeper!!

We had Peaches over to my parents house this weekend, as they have a bigger yard, and I must say ... Peaches sure does listen well! Every time I called her name she came running to me! She loved jumping through the snow and sort of played fetch with me :) I would throw the stick and she'd go get it, but not bring it back! I had to have a one on one with her and tell her she is a Golden Retriever ;-) Although she may not have been too excited about playing fetch, she loves her brand new rope toy and enjoys a little game of tug of war every now and then!

Today we learned that Peaches is a little uncomfortable around cats. I hate to put the "no cat" label on her just yet, but at this time it seems like they make her a little nervous. I don't think she would want to harm them, but she just really doesn't know what to think of them yet.

We can't say enough about our Peaches! She is just a happy, easy going dog with an absolutely wonderful personality!!
