This is FM welcoming Buddy to RAGOM and to our house.

Buddy is a very handsome 3 year-old PB GR. He has a sweet and calm personality. He is a golden-red boy who is neutered and up to date on his shots. He is a big boy--the vet weighed him in at 90 pounds. He is a little overweight and we are working at slimming him down some.

Buddy was kept in a garage/shop by a Good Samaritan who found him wandering and was then given to RAGOM. Thanks to John H. for driving to Iowa and transporting him to our family. Buddy is liking his nice, warm house and people to love him!  He likes also to go for walks and play with our resident golden and the two of them wrestle around the house and shake things up!  He should start losing weight soon. FD has thrown him a few dog toys and thinks he is a pretty good retriever. He is a very friendly boy who likes attention and plenty of petting. I've started brushing out his coat and he doesn't mind that at all -- he will get a bath later today. Buddy's a great dog and a wonderful furry friend and he's hoping to find his furever family soon.

Buddy is doing just wonderfully at our house. He’s now reliably house trained—has free roam and as long as he has a toy to play with and chew, he doesn’t chew on anything else. Buddy’s a very calm and quiet dog, except when he’s wrestling with our resident GR, Jake. They have become great pals and love to run and play together. They have already wrestled 4 pounds off Buddy—he’s down to 86 pounds! A few more to go and he will have reached a better weight for him. Already he seems to feel better and has become more and more active in the yard and on walks. He’s made all kinds of new friends on his walks—both animal and human.

Buddy visited yesterday with a family interested in adopting him. His new family and Bud got along just great. He just loved all the petting and attention he got. Buddy explored the house and the big, fenced yard—and then moved on to the resident cat. He was curious about this small cat creature, but was not aggressive. The cat wasn’t as interested in getting to know Buddy. Kitty took off running!

After a few days with Buddy, FM is learning more about him. When he came to our home he was stinky and matted. As I brushed him I found he had several areas where mats had been cut out of his coat. FD and I gave him a bath and now he’s looking and smelling much better. He seems to think so too! Buddy was a very good boy during his bath. He didn’t mind it at all and in fact, seemed to enjoy it. FD says he’s sure he saw Buddy smiling during his bath! His coat is soft and fluffy now. He had developed a thick coat from being outside, but he does not shed any more than our resident golden.

Since Buddy was a stray, we do not know what his name was. He does not respond to Buddy, so we tried a few other names. He seems to like Buck and Bucky—it gets his attention—so that’s what we’ve been calling him.

Buck had one potty accident in our sunroom early on, but has since learned to potty outdoors. Bucky is a quiet dog, only rarely barks and then with a reason. He has been sleeping through the night in his bed and has been fine. He has not been crated with us.

Buddy was noted by the vet to be healthy—his tests were good. The vet did note Buddy has slight cataracts, but that they are not affecting his vision now and may never be an issue. The vet just wanted to make us aware of them.

I think the perfect home for Buddy/Buck would include: 

    1.) Either a fenced yard or someone committed to walking him everyday—both for exercise and to get his weight down.

    2.) Since he is a large GR, I think kids under 5 years old may not be desirable—he is a very gentle, friendly boy, but he may unintentionally knock down young children.

    3.) He wants lots of attention and petting and he could benefit from obedience training.

    4.) He gets along great with my resident GR, but I do not have cats and he has not been around cats with me. The Good Samaritan who found Buddy had cats that stayed outdoors.

Buddy/Buck is ready to find his forever family and will make someone an excellent furry companion.
