Sidney (Sugar 09-527)

Profile

I would like to introduce you to the newest member of RAGOM.Sugar came to us yesterday.  She is a 50-55 pound golden mix that is 14 months old, so she does have some puppy energy.   She is UTD on all of her shots, HW negative, and spayed.  We are still getting to know her, but this is what we know so far:

1.  She LOVES to play with dogs and tennis balls.

2.  She does play a bit hard when playing with other dogs, but is easily corrected.

3.  She hasn’t had a lot of boundaries set for her, but she is learning things quickly.  Doggy training needs to be in her future!

4.  We were told that she lived with cats and kids in the past and did fine.

5.  She seems to be housetrained.  She goes to the door when she needs to go outside.

6.  She doesn’t seem crate trained yet, but we are already working on that.  She will go into the crate with a little hot dog incentive!

7.  She hasn’t shown any signs of resource guarding and can eat near other dogs.

8.  She does love to play outside in the snow—even when her paws start to get too cold.

9.  If given the chance, she would dart out an open door, so she would probably do best in a fenced yard.

10.  She would probably also do really well at a dog park as she does have quite a bit of energy.

11.  She loves riding in the car.

We will update as we get to know her more.  In the meantime, take a look at the pictures and let your placement advisor know if you would like to meet this sweet puppy.

Updates

Hi,

Sugar, now Sidney, has been with us 3 weeks today. First we have to thank her FM and FD for doing a great job with her. I am sure she misses them and her fur sister . After all she lived with them for two months. So thank you for all you have done. We feel so lucky to have come across Sidney. She is very smart, loving, and lots of fun. She loves her fur sister, Wrigley, and really loves her 2 sisters and 2 brothers, even when they don't always throw the tennis ball for her. See the picture below of our 5 yr old playing with an I - Touch while the ball is laying beside him, Sidney waiting patiently.

Sidney is doing great learning the new boundaries of her fence and really gets worn out running in the backyard, playing fetch - her big obsession. If the ball goes over the property line she won't go after it. She waits for us to get it. All in all we couldn't be happier, she is soo good, the kids love her, we love her and can't believe someone actually gave her up. She is amazing.

Thanks again to Ragom and all the volunteers for all the hard work and for taking care of these beautiful dogs, wish we could take a few more.

Thanks,
The B Family of Chanhassen

I have great news…Sugar has found her furever home!  She now has 4 human brothers and sisters and 1 dog sister (along with a mommy and a daddy)!  They are going to have so much fun throwing the ball for her.  We had her for 2 months and I can’t believe it.  Great things really do come to those that wait!  We want to wish them all the best of luck.  Like all of our fosters, Sugar you will always have a special place in our hearts.  Enjoy your new life with your new family.

Love you always, FM, FD, and FS (Savannah)

PS:  I’ve enclosed a few more pictures so we can all remember how ball crazy she really is.  The first, I can tell she’s thinking…“How did I let this happen?”  The second, she thinking…“No worries, I’ve got this!”  And the third, she’s thinking…“I knew I could do it!!”  All we can say is “obsessed”, but in a cute way!  Have fun with those squeaky balls…

WOW!  What a day!  FM, FD, Savannah, and I all jumped in the car and went to this thing they call a “dog wash”.  I was so excited—until I got there.  Then I realized it meant they were actually going to wash dogs.  Since I saw FD pay the man, I knew I was getting a washin’ whether I liked it or not.  Turns out it’s not so terrible, despite the look on my face.  I did have THREE people petting me all over.  I also came out with an awesome bandana with hearts on it, just in time to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

After I got my wash, we stuck around so I could meet some people looking for their furever friend.  I wonder if any of them thought I could be that for them.  I guess we’ll have to wait and see.  Other than the big, exciting day today, life is pretty much the same around here.  I’ve been playing in the snow every day.  When I get done, my face is always covered in powdery, white stuff.  FM always laughs at me.  It must be because I’m so darn cute!  Anyway, gotta go try to get this tennis ball out of FD snow boot.  How did that get in there anyway?  If you want to meet one of the most wonderful, housebroken, energetic, but not TOO energetic pups on the planet, let you placement advisor know.  I’m sure FM will try to get something set up.

Until next time,

Sugar

First, we want to say "thanks" to everyone that came to visit us a couple weeks ago at Chuck and Don's. Sugar had so much fun getting all those pets. She had so much fun that she'll be at the event this Saturday at the Roseville Petsmart. We are planning to be there at 11 a.m. and will stay as long as we can. We'd love to see you there.

Just to review some of the big points on Sugar...

  • She's a great size at 50 pounds.
  • She has done great with all of the children she's come in contact with, including a 2-year old.
  • She doesn't counter surf or get into anything inappropriate.
  • She stays off the furniture (except the bed, which we let her up--she's a great snuggler). She would stay down if told to do so.
  • She sits and waits to go outside and waits for her food.
  • She loves car rides and is completely crate trained.
  • She tolerates baths and nail clips with little issue.
  • She loves to chase balls.
  • She does well with most dogs.
  • Spayed, up to date, and ready to go. The vet says she's absolutely perfect! I tend to agree!!

If you want to meet this sweet girl, come to Petsmart this Saturday or let your placement advisor know. I bet you'll fall in love with her as much as we have!

I love snow!

Sugar playing... a good time was had by all!

Sugar at Chuck and Don's

Sunday, January 17, 2010

It’s me, Sugar!  Well I’ve been with these nice people for a week now and I’m settling right in.  FM has put some rules on me, so that’s not as much fun, but it’s okay because I know she loves me.  Since I’ve been here, I’ve learn how to “sit” and “wait” in order to go outside and to get food.  I’m getting better at following commands.  I already know how to “sit”, but am learning “come”, “drop it”, “leave it” “down” and “wait”.  FM says I’m doing pretty well considering I’ve just been here a week.  FM is starting to think I might be a good candidate for agility if anyone is interested in that.  I go into the kennel without any problem.  At night time, I go in and just lay down—not one peep!

FM gave me a bath yesterday and I tolerated it, but really didn’t understand why I had to do it.  I thought I smelled just fine before!!  She also trimmed my nails.  Turns out, that’s a two man job, so FD helped with that one.  My FM says I’m the first foster she’s had that doesn’t try to get up on the furniture.  Of course, I see everyone else up there—including my foster sister—and wonder, “Why aren’t I up there?”  I’m pretty sure if you want me to snuggle with you on the couch or the bed, I can totally help you with that!!  But I’ll understand if you want me to stay down.

I did go to the vet this week because I was coughing just when I was let out of the kennel.  FM didn’t know if it was just from me being so excited to see her or if I had a cough that needed to be treated.  Off we went to vet to find out…turns out it might be a mild case of kennel cough since I was at a shelter for a month, then in boarding for a week.  I am now on some antibiotics for the next ten days and that should clear it up.  Other than that, the vet said I looked really great.  My legs have great range of motion and my teeth/ears look wonderful.  He said I was a “nice looking dog”.  Of course I am…so ridiculous to point out the obvious!

Other than that, I’ve been keeping myself busy with all kinds of balls—including the frozen kind.  I like to take balls and throw them in the air and get them.  Snow “balls” are no exception!  I really don’t know why FM was laughing so hard and trying to get a picture of me with my snowballs.  Apparently I looked funny!  Anyway, if you would like a young, energetic, but not too crazy, sweet dog—I may be your girl.  If you want to meet me, just contact your placement advisor and I’m sure FM will try to set something up.  Until next time….

XOXO…Sugar
