Jake 09-528

Profile

**Waiting List** Jake arrived today at his new foster home in Cedar Rapids, IA.  He was a stray lost in south central Iowa who has been staying with a Good Samaritan.  They wanted to keep him but had to travel for several weeks and turned him over to the local shelter.

Jake is approximately two years old and is a medium gold color and medium size.  He has lovely thick fur and great feathering.  He met the three resident dogs and 4 cats quite well and is busy learning the routine here.  If it weren't way below zero, FD would have him out for a walk on the gentle leader!!!  He has been busy exploring our fenced yard.

Jake goes to the vet on Monday morning for a once-over and to be neutered.  We will update you as we get to know him and give you additional information when we receive it from the vet.

Jake was adopted after work this evening by the P family.  He will remain an Iowa Hawkeye boy and will have more love than he knows what to do with!!  Congratulations to Jaker and his new family.

The first 24 hours in foster care have passed, and Jake has shown himself to be a pretty well-adjusted dog. He rode very nicely in the backseat of the car during his two hour transport, sometimes propping himself up on the console to look out the front window to see where we were going.

Jake has settled in with the resident dogs, cats, and humans. Other than some initial tendencies to want to mark in the house, he has had no "accidents" inside. He especially enjoys playing in the backyard with our 1-1/2 year old golden, seemingly for hours on end, but at least all that activity will keep him warm in these sub-zero temps. Both dogs also honor playing in the yard only and not in the house.

Jake did a nice job walking on the Gentle Leader today, also learning to sit and stay when the walker stops. He does not do very well if only a leash is used, but that is the way it is with most goldens.

Until we have a higher comfort level with his being housebroken, we keep Jake either in on a leash in the house or in a large kennel. He does great in the kennel, accepting it with no whining or barking of any kind once he is in. He made no noises at all during the night and was happy to go out and do his thing first thing in the morning when he was let out.

First thing tomorrow, Jake gets his general exam, shots, tests, and neutering. (And you thought YOUR Monday's were sometimes difficult!) Will give a full report on his vet visitation after he comes home on Tuesday.

Brrrrr.... It's cold here in Iowa.... glad I have a warm spot by the fire!!!!
