Please give a warm welcome to Hunter!  Hunter became a RAGOM boy in December of 2009 when his original family surrendered him after spending every day and every night in a crate in the family's basement for the first 3 1/2 years of his life.  After a short period in foster care (and an EXCELLENT guest at that), Hunter was adopted and became the "second child" to a family with a cat.  Fast forward two years...

The family was perfect for Mr. Hunter...a loving mom, loving dad, loving cat - and spoiled rotten.  Then it came time for the family to add a "two-legger" and Hunter voiced his disapproval by growling at the infant.  His family tried so very hard to work with him and even hired a dog trainer to help with this.  Unfortunately, Hunter was not responding to the training and his family surrendered him back to RAGOM with a very heavy heart. Over the two plus years that Hunter lived with his family, he played nicely with young nieces and nephews with no problems.

Here are the GREAT things about Hunter:

  • He is healthy and up to date on all his vaccinations.
  • He is very loving - he wants to be near his peeps:-)
  • Loves other dogs - he may growl at them while bowing...that is his way of initiating play time!
  • Fully potty trained and can be left free roaming for up to 9 hours a day although he is VERY excited to see you when you arrive at home and wiggle his butt for you!
  • He loves car rides!
  • Counter surfing?  He would never think of it!
  • Do you like to walk your dog with one finger holding the leash?  Yep, Hunter would be perfect for you.
  • He is not destructive although he may find your shoe and carry it around...just in case you need it, he'll have it for you;-)
  • Hunter knows how to sit, stay, come (he has EXCELLENT recall), heel, off (as in, “off” the bed or couch), lay down and shake.  He’s also pretty good at, “leave it”.
  • He LOVES to SWIM!

Nice, huh?  Okay, so here are the not-so-good things...or maybe GOOD things.  You decide;-)

  • He weighed in at about 85 pounds so he’ll need to lose about 10.
  • Hunter needs a home with children at least five years old or older.
  • He does not like crates but he definitely does not need one.  Also, his last family knew of his origin (being crated all of the time) and vowed NEVER to crate him.  This is one of the reasons why he is being re-surrendered.  His family thought (for one brief moment) that maybe he could be crated around the infant until they were four or five but how sad and unfair that would be to Hunter.

So folks, that's it.  Who wants to love this big puddle of golden furr?

Please contact your placement adviser if you think Sir Hunter would complete your family.
