Candy 09-485

Profile

December 4, 2009:  Candy is a 8 year old spayed Golden/Lab mix that came into RAGOM on November 27th. Her SO was moving out of state and was unable to bring her along. The trip to the vet this week went perfectly. She is now up to date on all of her shots and was HW negative. There was a cat on the desk at the vet and Candy just sniffed the cat and did not get excited at all. The only health issue that I am aware of is that she does have allergies at times. She can be given some Benadryl when she has buildup along her eyes.

Candy is getting along very well with the resident dogs and has even met a few other dogs in the neighborhood. She also enjoyed meeting all of the kids in her new neighborhood, and loves the attention she gets from them. She is house trained and has been left alone in the house for eight hours and had no issues. I have not seen any evidence of counter surfing and the only things she has chewed on are the dog toys around the house. She does like to to be in the same room I am in and will follow me around throughout the house. A couple of times a day she wants to be a 65 lb lap dog.

She like to be outside and likes nothing better than retrieving any type of ball. When she was a puppy she injured her left leg and still favors it some. That does not stop her from beating the resident 2 year old Goldens to the ball almost every time. Another one of her favorite things is going for walks, she is even getting used to the Gentle Leader.

Candy will be at Canine Crossing in Ham Lake this Saturday, December 5th. Come and say hi!

If you are interested in meeting her, you can also let your placement advisor know.

Last week Candy met a very nice couple.  She especially liked all of the attention that they gave her, and she sure showed how much they liked them with her kisses when they met.  They did like Candy as much as she liked them, so she found her forever home.   It sounds like everything is going great with them.

Candy would like to thank Judith, Chelsea and Cecil for the donation they made.  She just can’t wait for it to get a little nicer out so she can play ball with her new family.

Candy would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday. She does love to be out in the back yard playing in the snow. She keeps trying to help me shovel by pushing all of the show off of my shovel. It is not very helpful but pretty funny to watch. She also enjoys catching small snow balls, if one is thrown anywhere near her, she will catch it. The two resident dogs tried to learn her trick but were not nearly as graceful as Candy.

She does get along with her two foster brothers, but really likes to be around people more than dogs. If there are people in the area her tail will be wagging.

She does like to poke her head around in the snow and her FD did not realize she was getting water in her ears so she ended up with an ear infection. She does not like getting her ears cleaned but she will come over and let you clean them if you ask her.

Candy had a great time meeting everyone that stopped out and Chuck and Don's in Cottage Grove this past weekend.  I do not think her tail stopped wagging the entire time she was there.  She has stayed with me a couple of weeks now and has been a pleasure around the house the entire time.   Candy likes to be in the same room I am in when am home and has free roam of the house when I am not there.  I have seen no evidence of any counter surfing and the only time she tries to get in the furniture is when I am sitting in it.  As soon as I sit down after being at work she wants to crawl in my lap and welcome me home.  The only thing she has chewed on were dogs toys.  I have even forgotten my shoes out a few times and they were untouched.

She does love going on walks and might not know the heel command but does not pull on the leash.  She does focus on the tree tops as we walk by them, so she probably would chase any squirrels.  She loves to play fetch and will drop the ball at your feet most of the time after you say "drop".   She seems to get along perfectly with other dogs, but I think Candy likes the company of people more then other dogs.  She has been around small children and is very comfortable around them.  She also ignored the cat on the desk at the vet.   She is a very loving low maintenance loving dog, that will make a great addition to someone family.  She would love to have someone she can play fetch with constantly and to go on walks with.  Ideally with a fence in the backyard, but think she would be fine without a fence.

OOPS….I mistakenly said that Candy was 8 last week, She will not be eight until February.  Candy had a great time meeting everyone at the event last Saturday.    To get ready she even had a bath and had her nails trimmed.  She is not very fond of either of these processes but goes along with minimal coaxing from her FD.

We have been going on daily walks throughout the neighborhood and nearby park with her two foster brothers.  Even with her foster brother constantly darting around Candy and getting their leashes tangled up, it is still a very good time.  If her foster brothers were just as well behaved as Candy the walks would be much more relaxing.  She seems to like the walks almost as much as retrieving balls in the back yard.

Tonight Candy was out with me as I tried to get started on shoveling.  She was not very helpful, but was very funny in the snow.

I want to thank Candy’s supporters for their monetary gifts. It is gifts such as these that enable us to care for these deserving dogs. Without your generosity, she might have been left out in the cold. Candy gives you a paws up. J
