Chloe (Sandy 09-482)

Profile

I'd like to introduce you to Sandy, she came into RAGOM last Friday. Sandy is a golden mix, about 3 1/2 years old, she is spayed, weighs in at 70.5 pounds - just perfect according to her vet, is UTD on all her shots, is heartworm free - YEH!, and except for an issue with cats is just about perfect. We're not sure what she is mixed with but we think part Chesapeake and part something with big feet and bushey tails. She is just as pretty as she can be and really sweet too.

She rode in the car from Pine City to Hastings with no problems, she just sat up and watched the scenery go by or she got bored and laid down and took a nap. She met both of my dogs without incident, shows no resource guarding with toys, treats or food; actually she shares her food with my 6# snarkey Bella. She seems to know basic commands, is good on a leash and loves to go for walks, is housetrained and can be left with free roam at my house. I did put her in a kennel the first time I left the house and she seemed to be extremely stressed when I got back so I haven't tried putting her in it again.

Like I said earlier though, she really shouldn't be in a home with cats. She has an above normal interest in my cat and has gone so far as tried to grab her by the neck. She hasn't hurt him but she almost acts like she is stalking him when she catches sight of him. For now he will have to stay outside and in the garage.

I think Sandy's perfect home would be without cats, have a fenced yard so she can run around without being on a leash, have someone home alot, she would be fine as an only dog and she loves attention but is not pushy. She prefers to be in the same room I'm in but doesn't insist on being petted constantly.

If you think you might be interested in Sandy let your placement advisor know. I will let you know more about Sandy as we get to know her better. Oh yes, she doesn't let a small thing like a baby gate stand in her way, she doesn't go through it, she jumps over it - that way you never know she was in the 'forbidden' room unless you catch her jumping out. Such a smart girl!!

After a couple weeks of fostering Chloe, here’s what we now know about her.

1.)  weighs 69 lbs which is a good weight for her

2.)  is very affectionate

3.)  loves being petted

4.)  is very well-behaved

5.)  has free roam of our house while we are at work

6.)  is house trained and has not had any accidents

7.)  doesn’t chew on anything inappropriate

8.)  learned our routine quickly

9.)  loves going on walks

10.) loves going for car rides

11.) is not aggressive and has no anxieties

12.) will take food off of the counter if given the opportunity

13.) occasionally jumps up to greet us, which we are working on stopping

14.) gets along GReat with other dogs

15.) is UTD

16.) loves all kids – was excellent with our 2 and 4 year old grandkids

Chloe was shedding a lot the first two weeks and her coat is a little thin now but not bad. We suspect that good food and no longer being stressed will improve her coat.

Chloe wants to be in the same room with you and hates being closed off in another room or being put in a kennel. She is a very smart dog. We left a tin of dog food on top of the dryer and were gone for an hour. When we came home we found the empty tin on the floor and not a speck of dog food. Good thing it wasn’t full! Now even the cans get put away.

If you spent the money to take this sweetheart to obedience training to bond with her and polish her skills, then Chloe would be an amazing companion. Keep your paws crossed – Chloe is meeting a family this weekend!

A little more about Sandy's background. We don't know much for sure, she was found as a stray in northern MN and stayed in a shelter for several weeks. But what I can tell you is that she must have been a house dog because she knows basic commands, is housebroken, walks very well on a leash - she'll pull a little the first half block but after a little reminder walks about 3 feet in front of you at whatever pace you decide, she prefers to be in the same room I'm in, and loves to sleep in bed with me - she is a very good bed mate, once she finds a spot she doesn't move until morning. She knew right away what the dog beds scattered throughout the house were for and she knew what the toy baskets were for and the toys in them. She likes to play with toys, she throws them up in the air and shakes them wildly and will take a little stuffing out but not much - she must want them to be a certain firmness and when that is achieved she is done destuffing.

She has a fine white streak down the middle of her nose, about the size of magic marker mark, she has white on her chest and white on the tips of each of her feet. And she has beautiful eyes, they are the dark brown they are more golden. She and my english shepherd are beginning to play and chase - so she has other dogs in her past that she has played with. She seems to respect my 6# mini-dach/chihuahua, in other words she ignores her.

I don't know how she is with small children, I will find out this weekend when my grandchildren come to visit - ages 3 and 1 1/2. She does get really excited when she meets people - she loves people, and I'm working on not having her jump up when she gets excited. When I come home after being gone for awhile she gets so excited that I've come back that she can hardly contain herself - she cries, wiggles so much she almost falls down and then jumps up to try to get my attention. The crying and the wiggling is fine but the jumping has to stop. That is getting better but she sometimes forgets or just wants to make sure that I really mean 'nojumping'. She is very smart and would do well in obedience and with her jumping skills - she can jump over baby gates from a standing start, she would probably do well in agility. I have quite a few agility props if it gets a little warmer one of these days I may have to try her on them.

Thanks for checking out Sandy - she is a love. If you think she might be the dog for you please let your placement advisor know.
