Tada! There’s a new boy in town.  Meet Jake, a friendly ball of fur just 11 months old. He’s purebred and beautiful. Weighing in at 66 pounds, Jake stands just a little taller than some medium-sized Goldens. He loves to eat, but is not overweight. Since he didn’t come with any food of his own, we started him on a new, nutritious brand of food that he thinks is heaven.

Jake’s come a long way in a very short time. When we took him in for his first welcome visit at the vet, she said “I can’t find a thing wrong with him. No ear infections, no allergies, good weight and a beautiful coat. He’s perfect!” Jake was totally up-to-date on all his shots, just needed a little blood work for his Heartworm test.  Results: Negative! We’re so excited for him.  He will be getting neutered Tuesday and then ready to meet his forever family.

Currently, Jake sleeps in a crate in our bedroom.  The first night was a little hard – we’re sure he missed his family that included two children (12 & 6) who loved playing with him. Now he sees our 3 year-old grandson every day and outside of being a little enthusiastic when they play, he does very well absorbing copious amounts of kisses and hugs. Check the picture for their latest game. We tried to start Jake on a little agility training.  It was our grandson who suggested we “leave a trail of treats”!  That did it.

WHAT WE KNOW:

Housebroken

Crate trained – early riser

Free roam of house

Loves car rides

Knows basic commands

Would do well with children over 6

Plays well with other dogs

No knowledge of cats

TRAITS TO THINK ABOUT – REMEMBER, HE IS STILL A PUPPY!

Chews up stuffed toys

Mouthie when excited

Wants to be an Alpha dog, but responds well to firm “NO”.

Needs a fenced yard to let off energy

Likes to dig holes when bored

More news coming after vet appointment for neutering.Stay tuned – you’re gonna fall in love with this beautiful boy!

How do you get in this thing??

Hi!

Updates

Friday, December 18, 2009

Hi from Frey (formerly Jake) and his new family!

Frey has adapted very well to his new home. He's incredibly sweet and loves everyone (and every dog) he meets. He has a horrible habit of making us feel guilty, however, by looking up at us with sad eyes every time we take used kleenex away from him.

Frey was INCREDIBLY excited by the snow we got last week, and spent lots of time running in our yard in it. He still enjoys sticking his face in the snow whenever we go on walks. He's also having a great time running around the local park and playing with other dogs at the dog park. We think he may like that even more than rawhide, which he loves to chew.

He had his stitches out last Tuesday and was a very good doggy for the vet. He shouldn't need to go back until March!

We love having Frey as a part of our family - he makes our day so much brighter.

Jake was neutered yesterday and is in good condition. He’ll need stitches removed in 10 days and no bathing until then. But he is in high spirits and glad to be home.

His play date this weekend was a huge success. The home he was in had two other Goldens – Libby, 10 years old and Cooper, almost the same age as Jake.  They all played great together. The two younger ones chased each other around the outside yard playing “Who will back down first”!  Libby smiled from inside the patio door.

Everything was shared with no aggression – toys, water bowls, pets from the owner, etc. (See picture below. Jake is wearing red). Jake slept in a crate next to the other two dogs who were also crated.  A great time was had by all.

Now we are getting ready for Thanksgiving and will be bringing Jake to the fun “Santa Paws” event in Wayzata this Saturday.Come out and visit. He never gets enough pets!
