I would like to introduce you to Pooh Bear. Pooh is a 3 year old male PB Golden who is one of the sweetest Goldens you will ever meet. He wants and gives so much love. He was on a farm in South Dakota. The only dog on the farm, so he was not sure how to play with others when he first came. His original owners were both hospitalized. Pooh was alone on the farm for a while. The daughter of the owners would visit to bring him food.
Pooh is a big dog at 102 lbs. WOW! He has lost some weight, but I am not sure how much. He still needs to lose more. He is up to date on all his shots and was already neutered. He did have some worms that have been treated . He does not like to jump in and out of the car. He has gotten better about jumping out. At first I literally had to drag him out. Have you ever tried to drag a 102 pound dog? If they don't want to go you really don't have much of a chance. He needs to be "put in" the car as well. Thanks to neighbor John, I have been able to take Pooh to the vet and on outings. He is pretty scared of car rides but it is hard to get him use to it, considering I need help to get him in each time.
He has been learning to be a dog by watching resident Max and Duster. Duster is a 8 pound Maltese mix. Pooh tackled Duster one day when they were chasing in the yard. Duster was very sore for about a week. It really was not Pooh's fault. He just does not understand how big he is. It is pretty funny to watch them play. Duster goes after Pooh's legs. And since Pooh is overweight, he can't get away very easily. Pooh looks like he is dancing the Macarena.
He barks and gets loud when playing. At first it scared the other dogs, more so because he is so big. But with time, they are realizing he does want to play. The chasing in the yard has been good for Pooh as he needs the exercise. Pooh is really pretty laid back. He does get "pushy" when he wants attention. It is a nice pushy and he is learning to be more calm.
He has some funny "quirks". He will go out the back door in the kitchen but won't come back in that door. He will only come in the door to the 3 season porch. I have not figured out why yet. He will walk on the floor in the kitchen. I thought at first that was it. But now I don't. He will go up and down the stairs from the back yard to to the deck. But he will not go up the three steps from the living room to the bedrooms. He will not go down the step into the basement, but he will go down the steps out front of the house. He has free reign of the house while I am at work. He likes to shred paper, as I found out by mistake. But other than that he has been a perfect gentleman.
Pooh is a beautiful dog who needs someone willing to give him lots of love and patience to bloom and grow into the special dog he can be. It is there, it just needs to be coaxed out. He will give you love and devotion that will warm your heart inside and out to give Pooh his forever home.
