Danny came into RAGOM just little over 2 weeks ago.  Danny is estimated to be around 10 years of age.  He was picked up by animal control on the streets of Duluth and was scheduled to be euthanized so RAGOM stepped in to help this senior boy out.

Danny was rescued in a knick of time because he is a pretty sick boy.  He is very skinny as you can feel his spine and ribs.  He came in as anemic, had elevated white blood count and has a severe respiratory infection that according to the vet has been going on for a long time without being treated because now they believe it MAY have turned into emphysema.  He pants very heavy and has been put on prednisone for this.  At this point we are not sure but it is very possible that he may have to be on this the rest of his life.  He will be going in for a follow up this week to see how everything is progressing for him, and to also see if there is something else I an do to help with his breathing.

He also needs to be neutered, and possibly have a tooth extracted due to it being broke off, but this is all on hold until we can get him feeling better.  His teeth are worn down and also in need to be cleaned.  Besides all of his health issues he is the sweetest boy.  He loves to hang right by my side all day.  He follows me everywhere I go, really does not like to go outside unless you go out with him... including his potty breaks :0).  Which speaking of, he is completely house trained.  Even with him drinking more water due to being on the prednisone he still has not had any accidents :0).

He goes up and down stairs with no problems and walks like a perfect gentlemen on our short but sweet walks around the neighborhood.  On our visit to the vet we did encounter a cat, which he just sniffed and walked away so I think it is pretty safe to say he is kitty friendly.  Will send more info on his sweet pea after we see the vet for a follow up.

It makes me very sad to know that this will be my last update on Danny. And as a foster I was hoping to write one day that he found his forever home, but now Danny is running free in the fields, with healthy lungs chasing all the balls and squirrels up in heaven.

I woke up Friday a.m. finding Danny not feeling the greatest. He would not eat for me, seemed very lethargic and most importantly did not follow me around. Not his character at all....he was my shadow. I ran him into the vet to have him looked at, had tests and x-rays run on him, and then it was determined that Danny had a severe case of pneumonia. After discussing Danny's health with the vet and another RAGOM volunteer we decided that it was best to let Danny be free of all his respiratory ailments. The vet explained to me that Danny's esophagus was extremely large and stretched out and this would pretty much be what Danny would be dealing with the rest of his life, chronic lung infections along with the emphysema that he was already battling. Danny crossed the rainbow bridge in my arms, feeling no pain and most importantly feeling very loved by a family.

I wanted to thank RAGOM for taking him in and giving him the best health care that he needed. I only had Danny since the end of July and made many visits to the vet and had several tests ran on him. Never was I told not to do anything, always do what you need to do for him. Marti...you are a Saint for sponsoring him. I wish you had the opportunity to meet him. Cases like Danny show how much we rely on financial contribution from all of the RAGOM fans out there from sponsorship to attending the annual picnic to show your support. Without you guys we could not do this for all these beautiful dogs. So thank you once again from myself and most importantly Danny.

Dr. H. and Dr. G. and all the other ladies over at Carver Lake Veterinary Center in Woodbury. Whenever I had Danny in there you showed him such compassion. I always knew he was getting the best possible care with you and highly respect all of you for your work with all the animals you treat every day. And the compassion you showed me when I had to come back to say good bye to Danny and help him on his final journey to cross over the rainbow bridge. All of you beautiful people make me very proud to be a part of our unique family we have created in taking care of our four legged kids.
