Well RAGOM fans... guess it's time for me to 'fess up and introduce Amber! She's a 3 year old, 40 lb, Golden mix that I've been keeping secret cuz she's such a great little dog :) Amber's been here for 2 weeks and since the first day she's fit in like she's always lived here. Have I met my 'foster failure'?

Amber is now UTD on all vaccinations plus heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Her SO reported she's had a few seizures that are well controlled with phenobarbital. However, since she's a bit pudgy, had the vet check her thyroid as that can cause or contribute to seizures. Turned out her thyroid was very low so Amber's now taking meds for that, too. Once her thyroid is within the normal range we'll try reducing the seizure meds. Hopefully we'll be able to reduce the dosage and/or frequency of the phenobarbital. If we're really lucky might even be able to go off it completely! Amber sees the vet again in 2 weeks for the blood work to recheck her thyroid -- we'll keep you posted.

Amber died peacefully this evening following a short illness with acute anemia. Steriods helped for a bit, but was not a cure. For most of her time with us she walked 5 miles a day to assist with my cardiac therapy. She was the BEST dog ever! Attached is a pix from a happier day.
