Welcome Bear to the RAGOM family! Bear is a 6 month old PB Golden Retriever that was surrendered to the Humane Society in Iowa. Thank you HS in Iowa for allowing us to care for this precious guy! The family that surrendered Bear purchased him from a pet store (thus he is most likely from a puppy mill) and they surrendered him because he got too big. Bear is light golden in color and is very tall! He is as tall as my 7 YO GR! He is very, very, very skinny, but eats like a horse, so that should resolve itself. He is currently eating Nutro with some soft Nutro gravy over the top and loves it. He also is getting used to the food that the other GR's in the house eat like bananas, green bean and roasted sweet potatoes. Bear settles down nicely in the house and sleeps quietly in his crate in my bedroom. We have another foster, Cadence 08-433, that gets up for a 4:00 am potty break, so we bring Bear with us too. He is not quite house trained yet and I want him to learn from the other furr butts, so that is why we bring him out at that time. He does not go potty in his crate and could hold it all night, I just thought it would be another learning opportunity. Poor Bear has never been taught anything, but already in the time he has been here he knows that it is not okay to jump on people, he sits for treats and even gives me his paw! Let's just say that obedience training is a MUST in this boy's life! He would also be a great running partner with those long legs of his! He needs some work on the leash, but is already learning to walk by your side - don't get me wrong, he pulls, but with practice on a GL he should improve. When we are working on learning something new, he just sits there and soaks up all of the direction! He is so anxious to learn and catches on so quickly. He is very smart and attentive. Bear is UTD on all vaccinations and is scheduled to be neutered on Wednesday. He will spend the night at the vet, but he will be pretty out of it, so he is better off there where they can watch after his medical needs. He will also be microchipped at that time. Today we spent the afternoon outside and tried a little swimming in the pool. He was not a willing participant until I helped him in, then he paddled around and around. He did that several times and now he is camped out in the office on the cool tile floor with his foster sisters. Thank you for reading about Bear and we will write more as we get to know this precious little furr boy. FM and Bear-Bear
