Chloe came into RAGOM about 1 week ago. Her very experienced first foster recognized right away that Chloe was very timid and would need a foster home with a fence and a large dog for Chloe to role model after. So she moved here 6 days ago.
 
Chloe is almost two years old and spayed. She was surrendered by a family that no longer had time for her. Chloe went to the vet since her ears were very red and inflamed. She had quite a high fever and 3 different germs growing in her ears.  Dr. Geske thinks she may have allergies since her ears and belly are oink and she has been licking her paws a bit. Her ears are so red that Dr. G. was worried about Chloe getting an ear hematoma from scratching and shaking her head so fiercely. So she put her on pain meds, antibiotics and Benadryl. She also is a little on the thin side and needs to gain a few pounds. I brought my resident boy Skye along for Chloe to feel safer. He helped her get through the doors. Once inside the exam room, she hid under my chair with her face towards the wall. Talk about a wallflower!
 
Chloe originally came from a breeder and was adopted at the age of nearly 4 months. It is clear she missed out on some puppy socialization that is crucial in those early months. She continues to be VERY shy and scared--moving away from anyone who approaches her. If we sit low to the ground, she will approach for kisses and pets. Any noise or movement or new person scares her and sends her running to her safe spot. Right now her safe spot is her crate when we are indoors and under the lilac bush when we are outdoors.
 
Chloe has taken a strong liking to my other foster Max 09 179 and they wrestle for hours. It is fun to see her looking like a normal dog during those play times. Otherwise she moves around with her tail tucked tight and her head low--as you can see in the picture. The only other thing that perks her up and gets her tail out from the tucked position is a tennis ball--or any ball really. But if it lands anywhere but out in the open, she won't approach it.
 
I know Chloe will peak a lot of interest since she is a beautiful, young female but Chloe will have some special requirements in her new home.
 
* A physical fence due to her fear of being approached. If she was running, she would not come to you.
* Another medium to large breed dog for Chloe to gain confidence from
* A fairly quiet home environment
* Someone with LOTS of patience who can help show Chloe that only good things come from people and help her come out of her shell.

Chloe is on her way to northern MN with her new family. Lewie, Phyllis and Montana couldn't resist this beautiful sweet girl. The most wonderful thing is--they have experience with shy dogs. You see, Montana was even more shy than Chloe. And, believe me, I could not tell that from interacting with Tannie today! So I know this is the perfect family for my Chloe. It is hard not to shed a few tears when putting her in their van for the long ride home. The rewards of fostering--being the safe transition home where she can settle and come out of her shell--out weigh the sadness when fosters go on to their forever home. Have a GReat life Chloe!

Chloe has finally decided the swimming pool is a good thing! It is so hot and humid here but I think the real reason is that it is the only way she could get at Archer 09 121 to wrestle. These two are having a blast! Little Archer may have a few residual neuro side effects from his earlier bout with distemper but it sure hasn't slowed him down or stopped him from playing.
 
Chloe is meeting a family this weekend so keep your paws crossed that they like her! What's not to love??

Hi-Chloe here! I am kind of sad because no families are interested in meeting me. Foster Mom says I am a beautiful, young, healthy, female GR and we are usually very popular. I worry that something is wrong with me but FM says that the right family will find me someday.
 
At first when I meet you, I might be shy but it only takes me a few days to know that you aren't going to hurt me--and then I will want to spend my whole life with you. At first, Foster Mom thought I would need a fence because I might not come if I was scared. Now she thinks with the right training I will be fine--and once I trust you. Let me tell you, when that happens--the trusting--I will be your loyal dog forever!
 
I want you to know that I love to play with other dogs and also to fetch my tennis ball--YES--I love my ball! But I am NOT ball obsessed like some dogs I know. If you don't want to throw it that is OK with me. I also don't need to be the top dog, so if you have a dog that likes to be the boss that is OK with me. I have been wrestling with Archer 09 121 tonight. He is spending the weekend with us and I love to wrestle with him--even though he slobbers my ears! Here is a picture of me wrestling with Toby who spent last weekend with us. Bet you can't tell which one is me! I have the green collar-ha!

Chloe is coming out of her shell. Some days she BURSTS out of it and some days she tiptoes...Today, I threw her ball and she started tearing around the yard. All the dogs got into the act by chasing her and trying to wrestle. And she was initiating play with them. It was wonderful to see!
 
She is still leery of new situations and new noises. She will bark at new noises which is a bit better than running for her safe place. She quiets when I ask her to. The other day I put out a jar of sun tea and she kept her distance from it the entire time. Kept looking at it like it would jump her! But she has gotten used to the routine here, the noises of our home and is relaxing.
 
Chloe is a love and will make someone a loyal companion. Don't let her current fears scare you away. She will come around with time, love and patience.
