Neighbor 09-156

Profile

Neighbor arrived last night after a very long ride from Sioux Falls, SD, and on her last transport here she got sick  just before she arrived to her foster home.  She came into the house and met the resident dogs.  I was sitting on the couch and she jumped right up and sat down next to me and stayed there for the next 3 hours.  She drank lots of water, did not wish to eat dinner at all, and only wanted pets and love from any woman in the house.  Oh that's right, we only have females in our home, all females; except the cat.

Neighbor is just 2 yrs old (DOB is 2/14/07), she is half GR and Border Collie and she is beautiful, friendly, a true lover and wants all the pets in the house.  Which is a little difficult when I have only two hands and four demanding, loving dogs.  She has had full roam of the house and no accidents. Today she is discovering all the toys and the squeakys in most of them.  She loves the bones and is willing to share, which is a good sign.  Tonight as all the dogs were fed, she started to eat and would stop and then start to eat again, but she did not finish her 1 cup of food.  Tomorrow may be a better day in the eating department.

Neighbor was surrendered due to chasing, killing and eating the neighbor's chickens.  She most likely should not go to a home with cats; my cat does not like any of my fosters.  So no test here in the cat department.

Have a Happy Easter everyone and more to come as Neighbor settles in.

Neighbor has been progressing wonderfully! She is so settled in now. It's hard to believe a year has gone by and it's still possible to love her more every day. :)

We celebrated her 1st anniversary AND my birthday at the RAGOM IOWA PICNIC!

Neighbor travels very well and really enjoys Dog Friendly Motels/Hotels!

We all loved the picnic and the playground! What a hoot! My cheeks still hurt from all the laughing and smiling.

It was wonderful to meet so many RAGOM folks, the Goldens and their adoptive families.

Thank you RAGOM!....we LOVE our T-shirts! The food was great & so was the company.

"Neighbor" truly enjoyed her Christmas and New Years Eve parties with our friends.
She really loved "dressing up", which surprised me a lot. :)

As many of you know, Neighbor was wonderful from the beginning, but is continuing to celebrate her "New Year, New Neighbor" accomplishments.  :)

She has been through some great training with her new friend, Phyllis, who is our trainer at our PETCO store.  What a difference she has made in Neighbor's life and ours.  She is 99% better about her fear of men now.  Lots of work on de-sensitizing, learning to play, learning to trust and so much more!

I learned sooooo much.  We will continue classes with Phyllis.  In the meantime, Neighbor LOVES to visit PETCO often.  She thinks she owns the place.  All the employees make over her there and she loves all the attention, checking out the toys and, of course, the healthy treats she gets there.

BUT.......her favorite thing about it is seeing Phyllis and all the doggies she gets to meet and greet!  What a hoot.  She even likes getting up close to rabbits, ferrets, mice, guinea pigs & the birds!

She is now 100% bonded with Larry (Dad) and about 75% with Eric (brother), so we are quite the happy little family here. :)

She also loved her Lake Vacation in Pine River, MN in August.  We go every year and always enjoyed playing with our friends dogs.  Now they all love Neighbor too.  All 3 dogs got along wonderfully while running, playing, boating & swimming.

What more could we all ask for?  As I've said before, this is truly a match made in Heaven re Ragom doggie to a new family.  Can't thank all of you enough for all you did to bring us together!

Love from Neighbor, Toni, Larry and Eric!

Neighbor continues to become more relaxed & seems to know this is her forever home.

She is now better with MEN!!  We have all visitors give her a treat on arrival. We've learned all MEN need to remove their HAT &/or SUNGLASSES for an immediate & appropriate welcome from Neighbor.

I am learning how to be a good Doggie-Mom again.  I can't believe I survived without a dog for 22 years.  Of course, we made friends and  babysat for various friends dogs.

She will be excited to find that she is going on vacation with us to our friends lake home.  He just met her yesterday and invited her to come along so she can swim in the lake.  We are thrilled!!

We have a large cookout going on at our home tonight, so she will be in our bedroom. She can meet our friends one at at time that way.  I think she will enjoy that.  She will get many treats (Natural Balance Food Roll pieces) that will take the place of her evening meal.

The attached photo is of Neighbor and my nieces dog, Maggie (GR/Shepard mix).

We were so happy that she was invited to dinner at their home so she could play with their dog.  I was nervous about how things would go with their six year old daughter and her friends.  Also re their cat.   Everything went fine.  The cat just had to stay inside....for sure!!!!!!!!  Neighbor HATES cats!!!!!!!!

We continue to feel VERY blessed to have Neighbor in our life!!

Week 1 update:

Neighbor continues to do just great! She has not had ANY toileting problems ... none! She can only have a bone INSIDE since she digs to bury it if she has it outside. She knows 'shake', 'sit', 'sit up'.  She even turns to have back feet wiped.  Wow!Many thanks to her original family who must have trained her well. I just thought she was an outside dog on her South Dakota ranch.  She is quite the hunter/tracker.  Every a.m., she checks to see what critters visitedHER yard.  We have ground squirrels, squirrels & many birds that come to bathe in oursmall pond (2000 gal).  She regularly drinks from the pond and wades in it up to her belly.  She prefers to be close to me when she shakes the water off. :)We also have late nite visitors like possum and racoons! Their scent sends her into orbit....racing around the yard at very high speed. We are removing the trampled plant so she will have her own race track. :)
Still slow to warm up to my husband and our son, BUT she's progressing. She's gradually been sniffing fingers and kissing fingers, allowing some petting. We finally figured out that Larry needs 'walking time" and "feeding time".That has REALLY helped with bonding. She visited our son with me at his nearby home yesterday from 9 to 5. She loved checking out his home. Not too crazy that the yard's not fenced, so had to be on her leash. :)She allowed him to take her on a short walk & did the finger lick/kiss routine. Our son loves pet therapy, which is known to be very beneficial for those with autism. He's anxious for Neighbor to trust him totally. To help that process along, she will be visiting him daily.

This is truly her Happy Ending to her adoption process.

It is also a Happy Beginning for new life and our lives. I will keep you posted as often as possible.

I'm sure she has a following on RAGOM. :)

Neighbor reached her furever home safely yesterday and when she had a chance to get to a computer she sent me this message and photos to show me her trip.

Dear FM,  I'm under the table dictating this message for Toni to type. I made it safely to my new home.Toni & Larry and Eric took really good care of me.We stopped several times for all of us to use the bathroom.I really like those cool 'reststops'. I didn't drink anything on the way. I have a great back yard and love the pond. I think I should wait till daylight before I walk in it.Can't wait to see the fish that live in it.I'm sure I'll really love it here. I already met Toni & Larry & Eric's wonderful friends/neighbors who are still missing their Peepers (GR) who went to the Rainbow Bridge.  They will be my God-Parents. I want you to know how much I appreciate ALL that you & others have done for me while I was waiting for my furever home.  I will never forget you.  Please visit me anytime you are passing through the area.  Love from NEIGHBOR PS from Toni: This is absolutely a PERFECT MATCH!  Thank you so much! I did get some photos on the way.  Will send them separately from Larry's computer.Neighbor is just amazing.  Larry ran out & got her the same dogfood you had for her.  So glad he could find it!  She just ate a few pieces.  For now she is stuck to me like glue. She'll settle down once she realizes this is FOREVER. :)

Neighbor here.  FM says I'm learning to chill.  I'm getting to be less shy and I even go up to strangers and ask them to pet me - even guy strangers.  I like my human foster brother Chris to pet me too and before I just barked at him.  Now I don't.  FM says I'm getting much better.  I also was very nice today to my foster sister Macy 09-209.  We are starting to get along.

Today I was trying to get my other foster sister Sophie to play with me.  It was fun - I would tap her nose with my paw and then she would try to figure out what to do about it.  So far she hasn't figured it out but I'll keep trying.  FM got a really cute photo of me trying.  Right now I'm laying right next to her sleeping - we're becoming really good buddies.

FM also told me some exciting news.  A family is maybe coming on Sunday to meet me.  I hope they like me!  I'll let you know what happens!  Stay tuned!

Hi!  Neighbor here - just call me "Ne".  I'm hanging out here waiting for my furever family to find me.  Come on people - you're just not looking hard enough - Yooo Hooo - here I am.  Check out my cute photo!

We had another foster move in today - Macy 09-209.  She's not to sure about me but I'm trying to be nice - I even licked her ears.  I think she's learning to tolerate me.  Sophie and I were very nice to her but she still growls at us some.  She's getting better and we're all being good.  I think FM was a little stressed out today but we're all resting now.

Well, off to finish my nap before I go to bed.  HAHA.  Contact your placement advisor and come meet me!

My, how time flies... it's been two weeks since my last update and I apologize.  We have been getting to know Neighbor better and learn more about her personality.  She is the most sweet, loving, gentle, snuggle-with-me, love-me-and-play-with-me kind of dog.  She loves to lay in bed and get love and kisses, and she will jump out and lay on the floor beside the bed.  Neighbor is the best there could be; she is wonderful and any loving family would be fortunate to have her.

In the past two weeks we have been to the vet for an eye check (eye ulcer) to see if we needed to see an ophthalmologist or how we can treat this eye.  Neighbor has been put on an eye ointment with a steroid in it, and it has been making the ulcer in her eye more opaque, less noticeable.

This week, I have been noticing that she is always peeing many times when outside. So, while at the vet's visit to recheck her eye, we took a urine sample in and had that tested, and sure enough she has a UTI (urinary tract infection).  So she is on meds once a day for 14 days, and we will take another sample in after that.  And life goes on!

On Thursday when it was so warm, I put out one of the smaller pools out for the dogs to share and play in.  Neighbor had no hesitation to put her feet in and drink.  She loved it and still loves to walk through it and drink, or get a ball.

If there was a list that I ask for with Neighbor and her possible new family it would be to have a fenced yard; children are fine; with or without other dogs; however, no cats or small small dogs.  The family that Neighbor will chose will be very lucky to have her. She is beautiful and fun to play with.

If you would be interested in Neighbor, place contact your placement adviser.
