Benny 09-012

Profile

Ladies and gentleman I would like to introduce Benny 09-012 to the RAGOM family!  He is a stray who was found running along a road on a cold day.  Let me just tell you, THIS DOG IS AMAZING!!!!  I am absolutely in love.  He is 2 years old neutered and he is up to date on shots.  I will be taking him in on Monday for a check-up and heartworm test.
I don't even know where to begin. This boy loves his tennis balls!  He carries at least two in his mouth at one time. He is absolutely amazing at fetch. He can catch not one, but two balls in his mouth midair! I have never seen anything like it. He is extremely coordinated and focused. He actually will bring the ball or balls to you, drop them, then back up and wait for the ball to be thrown. He is tireless with it and could play for hours!  He also has no resource guarding issues with his ball either. If my resident dog Cami gets in there ahead of him, he has no problems with that.
Benny is honestly one of the nicest, sweetest dogs I have ever met. He is a great listener and obeys well. He seems to know a few commands and comes to his name even though he has only had it for a short time! I can't tell you how fast he has adjusted to our household. He is just a lover and a cuddler. He does think he is a lapdog though which is quite endearing. He is also smitten with our resident dog. He will sit and groom her and give her lots of kisses! Even in the midst of fetch, if you start to pet him, he will sit very still and let you pet him for as long as you are willing.
We took Benny on a walk/run today. He was pretty good on a leash.  I was not using the gentle leader.  At times he would lead a little bit, but then he would slow down to let me catch up with him. I do think he knows how to heel, he just might need a little reminder. He also LOVES to run. This boy loves the outdoors. He loves the snow and as we are walking, he will take bites and licks out of the snowbanks.
This boy is housetrained and just an absolute joy to have around. The only flaws I have found so far is if left alone too long with a tennis ball he will start to tear at it. He is also a bit of a drooler and will get the balls soaked!  So worth it though.  The Good Samaritan that found him had cats and she said he is just fine with them. I can't even begin to tell you how great this guy is!

Updates

Sunday, January 18, 2009

Another day, another update.  I just have to share with all the RAGOM readers as to how absolutely incredible Benny is.  He is one of a kind.  I learned a few new things today and yesterday.  First off, he is very quiet.  He just has the sweetest disposition.  I will go into another room and then sure enough, a few seconds later he is right behind me (with a couple of balls of course).  What a companion!  One of the most endearing things that I have found so far is that if I don't see him and he is quietly sitting on the floor in another part of the room, I will call him.  He looks up with a big smile on his face and his tail instantly starts wagging on the floor.  Another thing I love is that when I throw a ball and he can't reach it, he will try and try and try and never give up until he gets it.  It does take me forever to write emails now because he is right there every few seconds wanting me to throw.  I love it!!
As I have stated before, he loves his walks.  I hope that his forever family will take him on lots of walks, because he LOVES them!  I have also noticed that is when he prefers to finish his business (#2).  Doesn't do that much in the yard, but always on a walk.  He doesn't need a fence because he really wants to stay close.
I had a little situation today with my smoke detectors (don't ask, everything is fine :)) and he was so calm and not even phased by the loud noises.  We then went over to the neighbors with two younger girls and small dog and a medium dog and he was great with all of them.  As sweet and gentle as can be!!
That is all I have for today.  I love this guy!  He never fails to bring a smile to my face!
