Hello all!

It’s been a while since we’ve posted! Copper’s been up to a lot over the last few years. She’s still the same free spirit she’s been since she was a pup. We have to wait 15-30 minutes for her to come back from roaming around the backyard and also the neighbors’.

Copper has been on a few camping trips and LOVES going on bike rides and car rides. She still loves her turtle pool in the summertime as well!

Copper has had some changes as well, good and not so good. This last June, Copper lost her sister Mady and everyone, including Copper, did not take it well. Mady was the one that helped Copper transition to home life better and we all miss her.

️Copper also has two more littles to love! My sister had twins on 9-2018 and they adore Copper. They also think that Copper’s dog toys are theirs, but she doesn’t mind until they start stepping on her.

This last January was 11 years since we got Copper and she’s been one of the best additions we’ve ever had!

Until next time!

Hello all!! It's been a while since I posted about Copper. She's been doing great! She spends most of her days going for walks, lounging around the house, or playing outside while I'm working on the garden! We've learned that during the summer time we have to fill up Copper's little turtle pool or else she goes into the neighbors' yard and rolls in the muddy water...She still LOVES the little ones! Cole is now 6 and keeps telling all of us that Copper is his dog and Blake, who is almost 4, gets a little nervous when he first comes into the house because Copper gets a little carried away with her tail. There's new kids in the house next door and they get so excited when they see Copper outside because they want to play with her. I recently learned on a camping trip for my friends birthday, that Copper can't leave my side. She always walked to the bathroom with me and barely laid down...there were so many dogs there for her to play with and at the end of the night, Copper laid in my lap and made herself VERY comfortable while we were all sitting by the fire. Now, in addition to Mady, Copper has two other friends to play with, my sister's two black labs, Chance and Winston. She always has a lot of fun whenever they come over. That's all I have for now! Until next time...

Hello!! Megan again - Copper is doing fantastic!! She's gotten so much bigger and wiser. Copper is now very protective of my 2 1/2 year old nephew, Cole. Cole just absolutely loves Copper, he loves throwing her balls and giving her big hugs. The other day Cole threw a ball into Mady's pet carrier and I asked him what goes in there and he said "dog" then I asked him which dog would fit in there and he walked over to Copper and gave her a hug haha Cole then put his arms around Copper's neck and started making straining sounds, I then saw that Cole was "trying" to get Copper to go into Mady's carrier. Copper is such a sweet girl and guardian. We'll be in touch soon!!

Hello! My name is Megan and my family adopted Copper #08-577. Copper is such a sweetheart and she loves it here! She loves playing with Mady, our Rat Terrier. Copper is my little sweet pea and we like to go for walks and cuddle together on the floor. She likes to bite mine and my sister's hair, just playing around though :)

She's gotten so big since we've adopted her. Her favorite thing to do is chew EVERYTHING, especially my shoes and toilet paper rolls. When she's outside we have to keep a close eye on her because she likes to chase after the birds in our yard. She acts a lot like Mady. Mady jumps around like a jumping bean and when Copper tries to jump the same way, she just looks floppy. She's a lover, she loves to cuddle and sleeps at the foot of the bed to keep a watch out for us. That's all I can say for now! I'll email soon and give more updates!!

Thank you,
Megan

Copper continues to do well. She went in to the vet on the 12th for her 3rd and final Distemper combo vaccination. The only vaccination she now needs is her rabies which she can get in 1-2 weeks. She weighed in at 19.4 lbs.  People can't believe she hasn't been adopted yet! That wiggly butt of hers wins everyone over. :)

She eats like a champ; and we continue to practice "sit" for attention, the leash, etc.  For the past few days, Copper has been sleeping on a dog bed in my bedroom instead of in bed with me.  I decided to try it one night (with a baby gate across my bedroom door of course) and to my surprise she snuggled in and slept. The first few nights she would come over to my bed around 3 am and want to snuggle in bed with me; I was happy to oblige. :)  She has not had any accidents overnight but does want to go outside every 3-4 hrs.  No big deal as she does her business, and heads back to sleep. In fact, she is a pretty darn good sleeper for a puppy.  I happen to LOVE my sleep and she usually will let me go back to sleep until 8:30 or 9 am!

I have tried her on a treadmill twice; both times without much success. She is startled by the concept of a moving floor right now, but I am going to continue to introduce it to her since it’s too cold to get outside for walks.

Copper is really good at entertaining herself which is a wonderful trait. Of course, she will entertain with whatever is handy, so it's important she have plenty of appropriate toys to play with.  She has officially won over my lab, and is slowly convincing my Weim she is fun to play with.  My Sheltie will not be won over, but 2 of 3 is pretty good. :)

If you would like to meet Copper, let placement know!

Well after 5 1/2 weeks.....2 of the 3 resident dogs have decided its ok for Copper to lay with them! Here is proof! :)

Tuesday, January 6, 2009

I am surprised Copper is still in foster care, but will continue to enjoy her until her forever family comes along! Over the past half a week or so, I kept looking at her and thinking she looked so much bigger. So yesterday, I weighed her and WOW.........she is 18 lbs now! Growth spurt anyone?! I was so shocked I weighed her on 2 separate scales and a bunch of times on each scale! She is not chubby.....just growing like crazy!

She continues to be just the friendliest girl and wag that tail of her constantly. She is now sometimes sleeping through the night without a potty break, sometimes we go out once but she does her business and goes back to sleep.

I had my final holiday family gathering this past weekend so Copper went and played at another fosters for the day. They said she did great and enjoyed playing with their adult GR and a neighbor GR mix who loves to play chase! One thing I have noticed about Copper is that she has wonderful dog language skills...both giving them and understanding other dogs.

Her fur is getting a little longer and her ears....ahh those expressive ears are just the best.

To meet her is to love her.

Copper really enjoyed the holidays as she was able to go with to all the family gatherings. She made sure to say hi to everyone and loved meeting new people. Her confidence has grown so much in the past 3 1/2 weeks and it is so fun to see her more comfortable. Copper has what I call a "happy butt".....her tail is almost always wagging and her rear end wiggling. Its great. On Friday she went with to my sisters and met their 80 lb lab. I wasn't sure if she would play with him but she showed me! They played and played and played. Copper would run from under a chair to under a bench taunting him to get her. Then they would play in the middle of the room for a bit. My resident dogs still won't play with her so it was so wonderful to see her enjoying herself so much.

She is growing like a weed. I can tell she is taller and my guess is she has got to be near 12 lbs now. She is showing me signs to go outside more often which is great progress in the potty training department. She still has accidents like any puppy her age but if she is outside she knows what to do. She still needs to not be crated more than 4 or 4 1/2 hrs at a time and she still isn't a fan of being crated. We brought in a stool sample again last week and she tested negative for parasites so her worms are officially history!

Copper on a leash? Well, I would say her fear of the leash is 98% gone. Now, I am working on her not pulling and encouraging her to walk next to me on walks instead of in front of me. I am approaching this gently as I do not want to give her any negative connections to the leash. I would still like to see her have a fenced in yard at her forever home. I think that if she got out without a leash she would be off for an adventure.

I wrote before that both Copper's parents are in the safe hands of RAGOM but forgot to mention their names. Her mom is Hope 08-581 and her dad is Liam 08-580. I read in Liam's bio that he has a little facial hair suggesting there might be some Terrier in him. Copper also has a bit of fur that is longer so who knows.....maybe she is part Terrier or some sort of Wirehaired breed? Whatever her breed makeup is.....she is a sweet, friendly, loving, and social girl.

If you are interested in meeting this sweet and friendly girl, let placement know!

Hi everyone.....Copper here!  Foster Mom said I get to try my hand at this typing thing....I'm so lucky.

I'm doing really well and everyone that meets me says I have a cute personality. I am getting more confident and learning all sorts of things. Like that roll of white paper in the bathroom......ohhhhh is that fun to grab a piece of and run into the hallways! It just keeps coming, and coming, and coming. But now FM took it off the roller so I can't reach it. Party pooper. And I am learning "sit" even with a hand signal. FM is so proud of me when I plant my rear end on the floor and I am doing it more and more. Sometimes I get up enough confidence to play with one of the resident dogs here but sometimes they are crabby, so how is a girl supposed to know what to do? But yesterday FM and I went to the neighbor's fenced in yard and I got to zooooooom. It was so fun. And there was a neighbor Golden (who I guess is a RAGOM alumni now) and he taught me how to run along the fence line with him. Fun fun fun. The snow is really fun....it's just these days when it's so darn cold out there. My little paws get chilly and so I pick them up and plop down in the snow, FM picks me up and we go back inside to warm up.

Oh and guess what else?! I am getting much better at the whole leash thing. FM and I went for TWO walks a few days ago when it was a little warmer and I was pulling her!. She said usually she wouldn't like that but she let it be for the day since it showed I wasn't so scared of the leash finally. Progress not perfection (yet). And she tells me I am growing and getting taller......yup, that's me.

I really like FM, but she tells me there is a family somewhere that will bring me to their house and keep me forever. That sounds nice, and I wonder what that family will be like. I hope they let me snuggle with them, and teach me to be the best dog I can be!

FM said she is going to attach some pics of me so you can all ooh and ahh over me.

Ta ta for now.

Copper is doing well and gaining weight. I don't have a scale so I'm not sure what her exact weight is but she can no longer fit through the planks of my neighbors wooden fence. :)She sleeps a lot and still loves to snuggle.

Today she went with me to visit my parents and we had a breakthrough.  Twice Copper went to their door and whined to go outside. I let her out and she did her business! Yeah! She doesn't seem to do that at home but it may be because of the chaos of having 3 other dogs around. At any rate, its a great sign towards her becoming potty trained!

We also now know for sure that Copper is part Golden Retriever. Her mom appears to be either a PB Golden or a Golden mix and dad looks to be a yellow Lab mix (He has the same white on his chest and white toes that she does). Luckily for them, they both recently made their way into the safety and love of RAGOM. (They will be on the website when they find foster homes)

I would really love to see Copper adopted into a home with a fenced yard. She is still getting used to the leash and likes to have a little privacy when she does her business. Since it was finally warmer today I worked with her a little more on leash walking but she obviously never met a leash prior to coming to RAGOM and she seems to feel a little intimidated by it right now.

Copper goes with me to work and is getting to be a good car rider. She loves hanging out with the kids (I work as a nanny) and even fell asleep on one of the children's beds last week. I figured she would follow me after I tucked him in but she was out for good and slept with him until I got her to leave. It was the sweetest thing.

If you are looking for a sweet addition to your family, let placement know.

Copper here....Foster Mom said I could do my own update today........how exciting!

I'm really liking my new life and FM said that there is a family that will find me and bring me to live with them forever! I wonder who they are and what life will be like. I hope they are fun and teach me all sorts of things about how to be the best dog I can be!

I can go up and down stairs all by myself and am getting fed three times a day. My belly gets too full when FM just fed me twice and I couldn't finish my food so now I get a mid day snack too. Woo Hoo!

I go potty every time I go outside which makes FM happy. But I have a small bladder so I have to go out often and whoever decides to make me part of their family needs to be able to not crate me more than 4 hrs at a time. My bladder will grow with the rest of me but for right now.....I can't last real long. I don't really like being crated......I'd prefer to be snuggling with FM. I get lonely and bark when I am crated but FM says its important for me to be crated and that it will get better.  She seems pretty smart so I guess I just have to trust that she knows what she is talking about.

Foster Mom was telling me about obedience school and how when I get a little bigger I can go there just like my foster brothers did. It sounds like fun and I hope my forever family will bring me. FM also said it is going to be important that my forever family socializes me a lot. She says us puppies learn crucial lessons between the weeks of 6-16 wks of age and even though I won't tell her my exact birthday.....I'm definitely in that range. Since it's cold outside it can be tempting to keep me inside and home but I need to meet lots of other dogs, people of all ages, and different surroundings so I will be well adjusted. I don't really know what all of that means......but I'm a good listener and I'm just letting you know what FM told me.

FM is going to add some pictures of me so you guys can all goo and gaa over me.

This is fun! Oops... I might be in trouble.

Time for me to bring out my innocent look

Original Initial Bio:

Copper came to us from IA with her two sisters, Scout 08-578 and Shawny 08-576. They were abandoned when the owners moved to Texas and left them behind. A wonderful Good Samaritan fed the girls and helped transport them to MN so they could come into RAGOM! We are not sure on their breeds but appear to possibly be Golden Retriever mixes. The vet thinks they are 8-10 wks old. Copper is a dark golden color and has white on her chest, as well as each of her feet. She is a soft bundle of sweetness.

Copper was initially scared but opened up within an hour or so. She does well with the 3 resident dogs though hasn't yet tried to play with them. She loves to cuddle and I have allowed her to sleep in bed with me thus far. Tonight, I am going to try to be "tough" and have her sleep in her crate.....which she does not like. I think being so little and the weather being chilly she feels safest when she can be held by her people. While I absolutely love holding her, I know it is best for her to learn to be OK being crated so we are working on that.

She did come into RAGOM with some roundworms. She has been dewormed now and I will give her a second dose in another 1 1/2 weeks. Copper weighed in at 9.5 lbs and has received her first distemper combo vaccination as well as her Bordetella Vaccination.

As like every puppy, she has had a few accidents but has done remarkably well doing most of her business outside even though it's so cold. When we come inside she makes these precious little groaning sounds as I warm her back up. She also gets a little antsy when she needs to go outside so I need to remain vigilant to catch any of these signs she shows.

I am working on getting some great pics but every time the camera comes out she comes for a closer look. :)

If you are interested in meeting Copper and feel you are ready for the adventures of having a puppy, let placement know!
