September 18, 2009:

Keeper is the sweetest old guy who moves around very well in spite of his wobbly legs. One or two stairs is ok but more than that would be a problem for him. He settled in nicely with the other two dogs in the house.

At intake we were told that he has accidents at night but the room he slept in was clean this morning. He is eating fine but needs to continue with a high grade food and have a good grooming.

Keeper is holding his own against this cancer stuff. Since he was diagnosed last March he has not shown any sign that the cancer is growing. Yea Keeper!!!

Thought we'd throw in some pictures of Keeper enjoying his frozen marrow bone in the middle of all this heat and humidity.

His very special friend and sponsor Sharron T. came by to see him yesterday. Keeper likes to give Sharron lots of slobbery kisses to thank her for sponsoring him.

Guess who came with Sharron to visit? Yup, Hobbes and a beautiful redheaded girl named Abby. I really liked Abby and thought she was really cool. I think Abby liked having us boys following her around. Even snooty Smoozer got along with her (kind of). Abby is one special girl.

Abby was just adopted and has only lived with Sharron for a little while but she sure seems to love her new mom and Hobbes. I hope Abby comes back soon.

I have other great news. Check out "Crittersandall.com" to see me. 10% of the entire Critters and All purchase price from now through Goldzilla (September 18, 2010) will be collected to sponsor me. Click on the 'bone-o-meter' to see how close they come.

Thank you "Critters And All" for caring about me.

Sharron T and her beautiful blonde boy Hobbes came to visit Sunday. We had a good time even though we had to run in and out of the house due to the rain.

As you can see Keeper just loves the attention he gets from Sharron.

Tucker (09-380) and Smoozer always enjoy their visit with Sharron and Hobbes too. Poor Sharron needs 4 hands to give them all attention at the same time. Smoozer tends to kiss her to death and Tucker pushes everyone out of his way to get to her.

Keeper feels very special knowing that Sharron and Hobbes think he is special too.

Keeper hopes everyone had a great 4th of July.

Keeper is doing great. He loves to sit outside and watch the world around him.

He is still eating great and once in a while still has little spurts of energy and playfulness.

His sponsor, Sharron T and Hobbes, comes to visit him and he is polite enough to share Sharron with Tucker.

As of today, there is still no additional sign that Keeper has cancer. His tumor is not visibly growing and his breathing is no worse than before.

Please keep my little Keeper in your prayers that this cancer continues to be very slow growing. At 14 this little guy still has a lot of spunk and is nowhere near ready to walk to the rainbow bridge.

Keeper wants everyone to see how good he looks and let everyone know that he isn't letting that cancer get him down. He loves rolling in the grass and enjoying the sun.

Keeper has started on Rimadyl which will help his old legs not hurt so much and also will help any pain that may arise from his cancerous tumor.

Keeper's sponsor, Sharron, came to visit Keeper again and brought along her golden, Hobbes. Keeper thoroughly enjoyed their visit and looks forward to more time with Sharron and Hobbes.

Thank you Sharron for making Keeper feel so special.

Keeper was so excited tonight. His sponsor, Sharron, came over to meet him.

It was so nice to meet Sharron and her beautiful goldens. Keeper gave Sharron many sloppy kisses and received a lot of attention.

Tucker 09-380, of course, had to get his fair share of attention.

Thank you Sharron for coming over and meeting this special guy. Keeper, Tucker and Smoozer say you are welcome here any time.

AOL was kind enough to help me find a back door to attaching pictures while they fix my connection so I thought I would send a picture of Keeper's stuffy nose so you can see what he has been living with for a few weeks.

Please think of this wonderful sweet boy on Monday.

Here's also a picture of him helping me water the garden by holding the hose in place. What a great helper he is.

Keeper loves the Spring weather and spends much of his time sitting outside in the sun.

I had to share this picture of Keeper in my raised vegetable bed. I do not know how he got himself up there since he has such a hard time with one step up to the deck to come inside.

I guess Keeper decided it was too hot out and needed a cool place to relax.

As I was trying to wipe the mud off his paws when he finally came down I received a nice black muddy kiss. Life is good!!!

Keeper did have a stressful time a couple weeks ago. He had to go to the vet and have his right nostril looked at. It turns out his scaley nose gets scabby and it blocks his nostril. Keeper needs to keep his nose moist so we put a salve on his nose once a day. I need to watch his breathing to make sure the blockage doesn't close up both nostrils.

Keeper doesn't seem to be bothered by this and is his happy old self.

This handsome man will be 14 in May and still guards my house from those pesky people who come too close to my house and continues to entertain me with his playful demeanor.

Keeper hopes all the RAGOM fosters have the opportunity to find their own mud pile.

Happy Spring......

Friday, March 5, 2010

Keeper wants to say Happy Spring to his sponsor Sharron T.

Keeper has been busy burrowing into all the snowbanks in his yard. You can see from his pictures that he loves rolling in the deep snowbanks and also cooling off his paws by sticking them in a snowbank.

Keeper is so full of life and won't let all the snow keep him down. He is very wobbly on his feet but he keeps going even though his back end keeps sinking into the snow. He walks a bit, his back end sinks into the snow and he will either just go with the flow and roll around in the snow or get up and continue until he sinks again.

With all the warm weather Keeper loves to sit outside. Keeper has a stubborn streak and there have been times when I've had to put a leash on him to get him to come inside. Once inside I get this "huff" from Keeper insinuating that he is miffed at me for bringing him in. But, I also get a kiss so he can't be too mad at me.

Keeper continues to guard the house and yard and will bark at dogs and people passing by. The only thing is, he doesn't know they are passing by until Tucker tells him to bark. But, we don't let Keeper know he isn't the lead guard dog.

Keeper will be 14 in May so we will be celebrating his birthday with his neighborhood friends and some family.

This 14 year old still has the heart of a youngster and to see him become playful and run his wobbly little run just melts your heart.

Thank you Sharron T for sponsoring this beautiful gentleman.

Merry Christmas to everyone.

A special Merry Christmas to my sponsor Sharron T and her angel Bentley and to those who thought I was special enough to receive a Christmas token - Cody and Teddy Forsman, Lori, Kerry and the Mutts and to the anonymous donor to all of us senior goldens.

I wanted to send out Christmas cards with a picture of me, my foster brother and sister but foster mom said we can put one picture on my website.

Here I am with my foster sister Smoozer (the diva not looking at anyone), my foster brother Tucker (09-380) and in the front is our good friend Diesel who was adopted from RAGOM a couple years ago.

Aren't I a lucky boy to have such a family to celebrate the Christmas season? Foster mom said something about a guy named Santa who will be bringing me presents!!!

Golden kisses and cuddles are sent to everyone........Stay safe and warm.......

Keeper wants to thank Sharron T and her angel Bentley for sponsoring him. Keeper did a happy dance when I told him about Sharron.

I am weaning Keeper off his prednisone and his itching seems to be a little better but he is still biting his right hip area creating sores. I told Keeper he has to quit doing this or his cone is going back on. He just gives me a kiss and walks away as if telling me "no way" is that going to happen. His 2nd hematoma has gone down with the prednisone so I hope things will be good once he is off the prednisone for good.

This 13 year old has attitude and I am amazed at how playful he is with me. He does a little dance when he wants to play. He loves to be outside but has decided I need to be out there with him. It is kind of sad when I let all three dogs out in the morning because if I don't walk out with Keeper he will stand at the door and look into house and give me those sad eyes and bark until I come out. So, I have been standing in the rain at 4 in the morning while Keeper does his business. How can I say no to that beautiful face!!!

Keeper lives up to his name. Once you meet this guy you just fall in love with him. All Keeper wants is love and tummy rubs.

I have been trying to find the "other side" of Keeper. I was told by his previous vet that he is unpredictable in his behavior. I have not seen this side of Keeper but since it was an issue in his previous home I would suggest that he not be around little kids. I also ask my neighbors not to pet around his mouth just as a precaution but he always presses his face into their hands because the other two dogs can't get more pets than Keeper.

Look at him enjoying the fall weather. How can you not fall in love with that face? This 13 year old has spunk and spirit and hasn't a clue that he is a senior.....

Thank you again to his sponsor Sharron T and angel Bentley.

Keeper came through his surgery like a trooper. He had one tooth extracted and his hematoma drained.

He was very happy to come home and immediately ran the perimeter of the yard with Tucker 09-380 and Smoozer.

After the first hour of Keeper running into my legs and getting caught on handles, I ran to Petco and bought a soft sided cone. Keeper is more comfortable with this than the dreaded plastic cone and my legs and walls are very grateful also.

Keeper isn't letting this cone get in his way of eating, playing or interacting with the dog next door. Lucky for me I have dog people living around me. Keeper and Tucker, along with the dogs next door, seem to be having a contest to see who can bark the loudest and the longest.

Keeper's fur is finally starting to grow back in from his mat shaving. He has a beautiful auburn color fur on top mixed with blonde highlights. If the weather doesn't get better soon we may be heading to Petco for a doggie coat until his fur is totally grown back.

Even with that cone on his head, Keeper is a gorgeous old gentleman who doesn't know or act like he is 13.
