Hunter 08-453

Profile

Hunter is a 2 year-old purebred GR, neutered male that arrived this weekend, so just getting to know him.  He hasn’t been to the vet yet, but my guess is he is well over 100 lbs and he is a big, beautiful, sweet guy!

Hunter and his brother Echo were surrendered to RAGOM due to the arrival of a new baby.  He is such a happy, gentle boy he must have been very loved by his family.

Hunter gets along well with resident Mia and 08-420 Maggie and is very good with young children. Will send another after we get to know this handsome boy!

We love our dog and he is a RAGOM dog.  Hunter 08-453 came home to his furever home on Thanksgiving Day and it has been the best addition we have ever made to the family.  Hunter loves to hang out with his 4 boys, look out the windows, and is always a willing partner with a big smile when he goes on a walk or run.  From reading in the bed with the younger boys at bedtime to hanging out with his Mom who works at home, he is our constant companion. Thanks to all the volunteers and resources that go into the RAGOM organization, especially Hunter's foster family, Mary T. Hope you see this and know he is at home.

Hunter had his stitches removed this week and his eyes have healed nicely. This is Hunter’s last update as he also met his forever family this week and joined them on Thanksgiving….what a great gift for both Hunter and his new family!

Our house has been so quiet without all his sweet sounds and constant wagging tail and Miss 08-420 Maggie has been searching for him all day.   Hunter met Mike and Kim S and their four sons earlier this week and immediately connected with them.  He is a lucky boy to have found such a loving home where he will receive all the TLC he deserves!

Here are a few photos of our last night with Hunter.  Goodbye sweet boy!

Hunter had entropian surgery on Monday, his surgery was a success and he is healing nicely.  He did require the dreaded cone one night which 08-420 Maggie found to be highly entertaining.  In fact she thought it was a toy and decided to pull Hunter around the house.  Hunter was not amused!!

Hunter’s surgery was rather expensive and this lucky guy has a very special sponsor whom helped pay for Hunter’s surgery.  His sponsor is a humble gentleman, so he will remain anonymous, but I hope he knows how grateful Hunter and I are for his generosity and general compassion for all dogs.

Hunter and Maggie are crazy about each other, and he is not only affectionate with people, he is affectionate with his fur sisters too.  In fact Hunter frequently puts his paw either on top of their head or back….see photos below for proof!

Don’t you want to meet this amazing dog?  He is so easygoing and will thrive in any household full of love and affection for dogs.  He is well behaved, great with all dogs, all kids, has no medical issues and has plenty of personality.  I’d love to have you come and meet him to see for yourself…..just contact placementatragom [dot] org !!

Hunter is having entropian surgery tomorrow on both eyes.  Entropian, which is a rolling-in of the eyelid, causes the hair on the surface of the eyelid to rub on the eyeball. For Hunter, this causes significant irritation to his eyes and their always weepy.  This has not caused permanent damage to his eyes and has not affected his eyesight.  During the surgery, excess skin on each eyelid will be removed, he will have internal and external stitches and be healed in roughly 10 days.

We are still working on losing a few pounds and acclimating Hunter to a leash.  He is such a powerful boy and he wants to get out and meet people so he still pulls a bit too much on his leash.  Other than pulling on his leash, he is a very well behaved guy and such a fun dog to foster.

Here is picture that shows the shape of Hunter’s eyes and stained fur (which will go away after surgery), and a few photos of Hunter and his foster sister 08-420 Maggie playing together:

We finally have a nickname for Hunter – Chewbacca.  After all he is a big, furry, strong, lovable guy with quite a vocabulary….all of which sounds like Chewy!  We are headed to the Ophthalmologist tomorrow to learn why his eyes are so weepy, and will update you as soon as we have the results.

Hunter has been introduced to the “gentle leader” for walks (I’m sure he has a different name for it) and absolutely hates it.  He looks like a grizzly bear up on hind legs trying to get it off with both of his paws…..i’ve tried to get a picture but he is too fast! Hunter needs a bit more work with walking but is a smart guy and will figure it out soon.

I have left the door open a few times and he looks out but doesn’t try to runaway, so think he feels pretty comfortable at home.  Not much else to say.  He is incredibly easy to foster and a very affectionate, smart dog with no bad habits!

Hunter would love to meet you…..contact Placementatragom [dot] org to get in touch with us.   Did I mention he LOVES toys and playing outside?!

Hunter had a busy weekend. He was groomed on Saturday (maybe the first time ever given the length and condition of his hair) and to the vet today. He looks even more beautiful and smells much better! Hunter likes to be brushed, and didn’t seem to mind being groomed or having his nails trimmed. He weighed in at 111 pounds and the vet would like Hunter on a work out regime soon so he can work off ~20 pounds. He is now current on all shots and will get his heartworm results on Tuesday. Hunter had entropion surgery prior to being surrendered to RAGOM, but still has weepy eyes. The vet didn’t see anything that looks like his eyelids were rubbing against his eye, and they don’t seem to bother him, but he may need to be looked at again.

Hunter brought me for a walk this week, so tomorrow we will try again with a Gentle Leader. He is very strong and has lots of puppy energy. Other than needing obedience training, the only thing you need to be aware of is that he doesn’t like to ride in the car. This may be due to lack of experience, or maybe the only time he has been in the car was to go to the vet. He is still great with the kids and dogs and VERY affectionate……loves being with people. Hunter is a magnificent dog with tons of personality. He is a big talker and lets you know when he is happy, lonely, or you scratch that perfect spot…..very funny guy!
