Jackson came into RAGOM this week and so far he has been wagging his tail and giving kisses to his foster mom the whole time! He is such a typical golden, so full of life and energy that he is going to make some family VERY happy!
He is a 3-year-old purebred Golden. I would guess him to be around 75 pounds. He was surrendered to a good samaritan as his family didn't have time for him any longer. He was left to roam around and find his own food and water. The neighbors finally had enough of him being on their property looking for food and the owner gave him up. He has been living with this good samaritan for the past week and she has taken such good care of him! When she got him he was so covered in burrs that he had hot spots and sores in his mouth from picking them off! His hair is shorter than usual since it needed to be cut off - luckily his good samaritan is a groomer and he looks very handsome. He also had an ear infection in both his ears (this is still being treated).
He is a lovable, excitable, cuddly typical golden. He loves giving kisses and his tail hasn't stopped wagging since he arrived! His favorite spot to be is at your feet or laying next to you on the couch. (I know, teaching him a bad habit right away).
He gets along with other dogs (2 in his foster home), cats (1 in foster home) and was around older kids (8+) when he was surrendered. I think he'd be fine with younger children but still has alot of puppy in him and would likely tip over young kids with enthusiasm or his constantly wagging tail. He has also shown himself to be a little mouthy and we are working on having him chew on bones and not people :-) He is not doing it to hurt, just playing but this could be an issue with little children.
He definitely needs some leash training as he pulls but we'll be working with a gentle leader and hopefully he'll pick this up quickly as he's very smart!
Since he's lived most of his life outdoors, he doesn't know how to play with toys :( So he will be learning quick! Today he destuffed his first animal! We're working now on how to play with a tennis ball. However, he is fully housetrained which is definitely a bonus!
Come quick because Jackson will not be around long! He will be the perfect companion! Please contact placement
ragom [dot] org if you would be interested in meeting Jackson.
Jackson will be at the RAGOM picnic this Saturday, so come meet him there!
