Ronnie 08-446

Profile

Ronnie is a pure bred golden retriever that was picked up as a stray and is estimated at 2 years old.  He is an absolute delight to have around.  He has lots of energy and almost acts younger than his 2 years.  He is housetrained and always curious about everything around him.  He always likes to be where the people are.  He gets along well with the resident dog and is always wanting to play with her.

Ronnie was just at the vet and he did test positive for Lyme's Disease.  This is a good explanation as to why he has problems walking up and down stairs and he slides on hardwood floors.  The vet says with treatmant, he should drastically improve.  He is now currently on antibiotics to cure the Lyme's Disease.  We don't need to worry because Lyme's Disease is not contagious and cannot be transferred dog to dog or dog to person.  Ronnie has trouble walking and moving around, and the vet thinks this is because of the Lyme’s disease, but we do not know this for sure.  We should see big improvements in a few days if his problems are all caused by the Lyme’s disease.  He has had xrays of his hips and spine, and those looked good.

He is the sweetest most gentle thing.  He sleeps well at night, not in a crate, and we do not worry about him having an accident.  He sleeps in a crate during the day.  On walks we have run into our neighbors with their dogs and he loves his puppy play.  Our lazy dog is adjusting to it.  Ronnie will come up to her when she is sleeping and starts pawing her on the head trying to get her up and play with him.  He is also adorable with the toy stuffed duck.  He plays fine by himself.  He just throws the thing up in the air and catches it himself.

Ronnie is a keeper.  So full of love and sweetness. He has clearly been socialized with both dogs and people, and he does not seem to have any fears of anything.  His temperament and behavior are very good, although he seems to need obedience training.  He is always ready for play time and loves being outdoors when it is nice.  He is at our sliding glass door looking out all the time.  In our bedroom, he gets up on his hindlegs to look and see what is going on out there.  He doesn't bark at all unless he is outside and sees another dog right near him that he can't get to play with because he is on a leash.  Once we pass the dog and they are done barking he is quiet again.  He is also adorable in the fact that he snores a little bit.    I also have to mention that he wags his tail in a circular motion.  It is just the cutest thing!

We are looking forward to Doggie Palooza!  Ronnie is going to absolutely love it.  The more people, the more dogs, and the more action, the happier Ronnie is.  Maybe he’ll find his new parents there.  If not, we would be happy to keep him forever!

Ronnie has been on antibiotics for over a week now and has shown dramatic improvement in his walking and movement.  He loves to run and roughhouse with our resident dog, who has really fallen in love with Ronnie.  He still has a slightly different gait, and the vet says we just need to wait longer to see if he has any residual effects from the Lyme’s.  He is still a very normal dog with no abnormal behaviors.

We think Ronnie would be great in a home that already has a dog, and it seems like he also would be great in a home with kids.  Activity would be good for him – our neighbor kids love him.  He is a perfect family dog – energetic, and yet he can be calmed down very easily.  It is amazing how he will always calm down completely with petting.
