KayCee has quite the history with RAGOM. In September 2008 KayCee was surrendered to RAGOM at 1 year old because her knees were bad. She was overweight at 70#. The RAGOM vet put KayCee on a restricted diet to lose 22# in preparation for her first knee surgery in January 2009. Her second knee surgery was in April 2009.

KayCee was adopted after her surgery and returned to RAGOM in October 2009 because the family work hours changed and she was spending more time alone.

KayCee was adopted again in October 2009 and returned to RAGOM last week because they got another dog and decided KayCee would be happier elsewhere.

  1. KayCee needs a disciplined family that will restrict her food intake, since KayCee regained the weight she lost prior to her surgeries. Her weight should not creep over 50# to avoid arthritis problems in her senior years. Keeping her at this ideal weight insures current mobility and her golden future to be free of pain and stress in her joints. We want to make sure her next family is her last and forever family.
  2. KayCee will need obedience school and daily brushing, both of which encourage bonding and will solidify a healthy relationship with her forever family.
  3. KayCee will need daily exercise ie a walk or 2 for bonding to keep her weight manageable and her legs strong.

This photo was taken after KayCee's 2nd surgery and prior to her first adoption. She was at her perfect weight of 48 lbs.

The 3 points above are required for adopting KayCee. If you promise to provide KayCee all of the above, please contact your placement advisor.

KayCee received the mandatory RAGOM vet check. She weighs 60#. She should lose about 12# to get her back to her ideal weight after her surgeries. Her fecal test is negative. She was updated on vaccinations in July.

She did well at a self service dog wash. The dryer was scary so I towel buffed her. Her coat is golden, curly and beautiful. Her coat and tail feathers are thin because she was shaved, but daily brushing, massaging and fish oil tabs will help grow that back.

KayCee and the resident girls had free roam Saturday for about 3 hours and she discovered the swivel top on the wastebasket in the bathroom. I heard it was quite the scene. Heather was barking at dad (like usual) when he got home. Meg was woo woo wooing her anxiety and KayCee was barking and whining. I wish I was there.

KayCee is completely house trained. She whimpers for attention or walks to the door to go outside. She slept in her crate the first nite with no peep until morning. She has slept on the bed since day 2. She loves to snuggle and she has a comforting snore when she is crashed on the couch with me. She is very quiet at the foot of the bed, not moving all night. She walks well on a leash and loves car rides. In the house she is curious where you are, but not underfoot. She is content on the couch or lying in her open crate. She is not needy and finds solitude hiding under chairs or behind things.

MiMi, our cat wasn't very welcoming at first, now they ignore each other. In her last family, KayCee lived with a cat and kids and ate candy/crayons/food that they dropped on the floor. She sits nice with the girls for a treat and waits for her food. She takes treats gently and gives the sweetest little grunty kisses if you ask for them. KayCee loves green beans which are a nutritious filler with half her dog food. Her extra lbs will slide off while she feels full with little appetite between meals.

KayCee initiates tug of war with her favorite lifesaver toy. I haven't seen any resource guarding or unacceptable behavior. She chews on Heather's legs and head but every foster does that ;-)Hmmm. I wonder what flavor Heather is.

She loves the water, so time at the lake or river is a bonus. She is a great co-pilot in the car. Does not need a fence.

Good with a cats and a home with or without a resident dog.

She would do best with kids over 10. KayCee is a mellow, laid back gentle girl. She will be adopted when she reaches her ideal weight to the right family that promises to meets the 3 requirements above.

Thanks for reading about this beautiful curly girl.

Updates

Hi everyone,

I'm in my 6th place, adopted December 23, 2011 - yeaaaaaaah! It's definitely my Furever Home.

First of all my new Mom & Dad & I want to thank my RAGOM past Foster families and past Sponsor, and, my past Vet doctors. It's been quite a journey these past 4+ years but thanks to you all I made it.

Since coming "home", I've been quite busy, exercising a lot with walk-trots, and running around my huge fenced-in back yard. I've made myself known in my new neighborhood by chatting loudly with neighborhood doggies. I am a good "watch dog" too by responding to outside noises. I'm still working on maintaining healthy weight. It's hard because I am really addicted to FOOD! Anytime a parent goes into the kitchen I lay there waiting and when I recognize my stuff I drool a lot! I have a new Vet who thinks I look good and I got a fun grooming experience. Mom has me come everyday to our "beauty shop" - to check my ears, brush me, and brush my teeth about 3 X a week - I really like the toothpaste!

I'm sending some pictures along. The Christmas one is me waiting for Santa - and boy was he good to me with a new collar and fun pull-toys! The "sunshine" pic is me in my favorite spot by the piano - love to lay in sunshine. I was so happy to wear my blue bandana at the RAGOM Adoption Event at Petco In Brooklyn Park, cause blue means I'm an adopted doggie - Dad was with me and Mom too. It was nice to see my 2 -legged and 4- legged pals again.

I want to wish my 4-legged colleagues a successful and happier time. Thank you to all the RAGOM folks who work so hard for us.

KayCee

Hi Everybody,

Gosh Golly it's a Holly. Do you see what I see? A Holly Leaf in memory of BranDee. Thank you. You are the bestest for remembering me. And another special shout out & Thank you to my awesome sponsor Teri C. Merry "Belated" Christmas to everyone. Silly foster mom is late on my update.

I've lost 5 lbs. Must be those magic beans and apples. Its easier to jump up on the bed and into the car.

I'm having fun chasing the ball inside and outside and more war tugging, too. Best of all is my furever family found me. They came special to meet me at the Coon Rapids Petco. And guess what else...they're new RAGOM volunteers, so I'll be at some of the events as a RAGOM alumni (whatever that is).

We had one last party before I left.

And then we were ready for bed to get up early for my adoption.

They promise that I am theirs forever. Here's my Christmas outfit including a curly top angel, just like me.

This is our first family picture.

Thanks for reading about me. I'll be updated in Happy Endings after I settle in and melt some more lbs off.........KayCee kisses ;-)

Hey Everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Mine was ok. I was supposed to get green bean casserole, but they forgot the soupy stuff and onions. All I got was beans. My favorite treat is carrots and I get lots of those. I have perfect manners. I sit nice for my carrots and take them gently. I think you should know that I have been a fabulous guest since my arrival. I've been told that I am the easiest, most laid back, sweetest foster in a long time.

Sometimes we go for a walk after work and 4 walks on the weekend. That is the best. And did you know that I'm invisible on the leash. That's right. You hardly know I'm there. It's like walking a feather. I don't pull at all.

I'm starting to play and chase a little more in the yard. I'm even coming back when I'm called. Selective hearing doesn't work around here. Sometimes inside we play tug with a rope toy, or I just lay in the chair or couch or on the bed. I'm kinda laid back.

I have free roam all day and could at nite too, but we close the door so MiMi doesn't bother us. Silly cat. FM asks me to jump up in the corner and there I stay all nite. I'm not a cover stealer like some girls around here. Yes, they are quite surprised that I am in the same spot in the morning as when I jumped up before sleep time.

I have not had one accident here. Zero. So, I am completely without a doubt--100% house trained. And I don't bother anyone at the table when they eat. And I respect the baby gate at the stairs.

I almost forgot to mention that I am a security officer. If there is a noise late at nite or visitors at the door, I let them know that I am here. If I get told "it's okay" then I get quiet again.

I'm spending less time under stuff and more time with my family. I'm loving the loving here. I like to be brushed and combed and massaged. After I lose my pounds, I will be okay to go to my FOREVER family. Is that you? If you want to meet me, let your PA know so my FM can tell you what a special golden girl I am. Or stop by the Coon Rapids Petco after NOON this Sat. Dec. 3. Just remember, you have to meet the 3 requirements at the top of my notes. We want to be absolutely sure that my next family is my Last and Forever family.

Thanks for reading about me...........KayCee
