Poocher 08-403

Profile

Poocher is an 8-year-old, 70 lb, PB, intact blond male.

He was left alone for a few weeks with his owner having to leave with Alzheimer's. People stopped in 2x a day to feed and walk him.  Poocher came to us a scared, shy boy because of all the confusion over the past month. He would love a home with people who like to walk and spend time with him.

Poocher is an affectionate, indoor dog, who is housetrained and LOVES to go on walks. He gets along fine with our resident German Shepard male and was around two small dogs in his old home, but he prefers to spend his time with people.
He likes kids - especially when they take him for a walk. :)  He has blisters on his toes due to allergies, and a lump on his back near his tail.  We will be fixing all that when he is neutered next week.
Stay tuned for updates!

Just wanted to show you a few fun photos that FM’s daughter took of me today (she runs with me and I really like her). I just got a new soft toy that is sooo fun to throw up in the air and run around with.

I will send another update soon!

Isn’t the weather perfect for a dog? I am in heaven! I love walking and looking at all the beautiful trees changing colors. Ok – maybe I don’t see them like FM does. But she seems to walk a bit longer these days looking at them! The "kids" and FD also get me out playing in the yard and walking …. and I love it! FM was (and still is perfect) but when a guy wants to be outside and see the world – I guess he can’t be picky who takes him out.

My toes are great. I am done with my meds! (I miss the cheese wrap that I gently take out of FM’s hand) Even better FM tossed my head cone!! I don’t play (chew/lick) my toes anymore! They are totally healed. My "lump" continues to reduce and my fur is almost an inch long.

I am definitely down to a routine here. M-F – Foster Dad gets up and lets me and the resident dog (Hunter) out in the fenced in backyard to do our business. FM gets up and take us on our morning walk, comes home and I follow her around while she gets ready for her day. She gives me a kiss (Hunter too) and tells me she is going to work and will be home at dinner. I am very good now cause I know she means it. I don’t cry anymore. FD works at home and seems to think I rest most of the day – but so does Hunter! He (FD) takes us for a walk in the afternoon sometimes if FM is going to be home late. She always takes us out when she gets home before we do anything else. The " Kids" or FM take us on a short walk before bed. Other times we go out in the fenced in yard. On weekends FM stays around more and we are outside a bit more but she still has to run errands (whatever that means).

I just want to let you know that Hunter and I agree we are suburban "indoor" dogs. We talk about the comforts of dog beds, carpets, cool and warm air depending on the season! Outdoors for walks and playing are great if our humans are with us! But we aren’t into staying outside alone for a long time.

FM said she is going to take me in the car to a park so I don’t think car rides always mean going to the vet or leaving my family. I think she is going to try that tomorrow.

Anyway – Happy Fall! I love this time of year! FM said she is sending photos of me in the yard. Hope they are good! Not sure if she is good at showing my best side!!

PS – I heard FD say I have a beautiful coat (not to be eavesdropping)…but he is a German Shepard fan J Maybe I have turned him around! Thanks FM!

Hi. Sorry I took so long to tell you about my life at my foster home. I was planning to tell you five days ago when life got just CRAZY!

I came to my foster mom (FM) with big blisters between my toes and a baseball size lump on my back near my tail. My FM has been healing my toes with antibiotics and creams and I had to wear a dumb cone on my head so I wouldn’t lick them. I was doing great and FM took my cone off when she was here because I was such a good boy (I don’t lick around her). I was going for several walks a day and wagging my tail so everyone would know how much better I was feeling. (That was to be my first update.)

Here is where it got crazy! Sometime during the night on Sunday my big lump burst!!! FM came down at 6:30 on Monday morning, I ran up to her wagging my tail and she took me for a walk - my favorite thing. We came home and when she picked up my bed she saw lots of blood L. Then she saw what happened. She told me during the night my “lump” burst and I had to go to the doctor and check it out. Boy am I lucky I am RAGOM dog. They took me in right away that morning, put me under and cleaned out my “lump”. Guess what they found?? Debris from the woods! Doc thought I ran thru a woods and got a thorn or something under my skin at least a year ago and then as my body tried to push it out I got the big lump – kind of like what you would get with a splinter stuck way under your skin that you can’t reach with a tweezers. I had FM take a photo after my surgery to show you. Since I had to be “under” the Doc decided to neuter me at the same time. Guess what? I got the cone back for a few days L. I get it off for walks and my tail is wagging again. I think FM is taking me back tomorrow to get the drainage tube taken out. My hair is already growing back. And my toes are great!

My FM’s brother is staying with my foster family this week. He had surgery the same day as I did and has been hanging out with me. He is almost as good as FM. At first I thought she was the only one for me, but I am starting to realize there are a few other people that are fun to be around!

I promise to let you know when my cone gets off for good – and get FM to take some “fun’ photos of me!
