Beautiful Sadie is a retired puppy mill girl from Missouri and arrived this past weekend thanks to a fantastic transport team. She is a six year old, beautiful blond, purebred Golden and weighs about 90 lbs. Sadie has been an outdoor dog her entire life, and needs to learn how to navigate wood floors, doorways and stairs and of course potty training.

She is getting along well with resident RAGOM dogs Mia and Snowie, and follows their lead, which is great because she needs to learn to act like a dog. Sadie is still scared of people, but is making progress, her tail has been wagging all day and she will begin to trust people over time.

We went to the vet today to get the scoop on Sadie’s health and check out her front leg which she is favoring. The good news is her paw is probably bruised and will be ok in a few days. The unfortunate news is she tested positive for heartworms. Sadie will have her vaccinations and chest x-rays tomorrow to identify if there is any damage to her heart and the stage severity, and the vet will use this information to determine her treatment protocol.

Sadie cannot be spayed or adopted until she is free of heartworms, so she will hang with us for a while which will be a pleasure – she is a wonderful dog. Sadie’s medical care will be expensive, so if you are thinking about sponsoring a dog, she is a great candidate!

Here is an update from Sadie’s forever family!

We love Sadie so much, and she gets constant loving attention all the time.  So much so, it borders on getting in the way of her training.  I know she is suppose to come to us, but when she doesn't, which of course is her habit right now, we are quick to go to her rescue.  Everyday she comes out of her shell more and more, as she is starting to come to us, greeting us from a closer distance when we come home. She is starting "the Golden nudge" for affection, and with a little help, sitting with us during TV time.  She continues to hold her head higher, her back straighter, and her eyes more focused on us and others.  She has a bounce in her step and we see that Golden smile starting to come through.      She has been down to the lake and out on the dock without any apprehension.  She is also starting to notice squirrels and wanting to chase them.  Sadie and her new best friend Lou our black and white tuxedo cat, already love each other.  They operate independently in the house, yet when they come together they rub noses.  Lou is a very loving cat and I know they will continue to grow together hanging out as the weather brings us inside more.  Her other buddy is Issac our neighbors collie, they play well together and will continue once Sadie can play with out restriction.

Last night Sadie took her second car ride to Meme and Bapa's house.  She was completely comfortable and relaxed in the car and their home.  Thursday she will start her trips to their house on paw and will spend some time there when we have some upcoming teenager events with 20-30 kids in our house.  Our neighbors own Oneka Pet Resort and I was there yesterday for an unrelated visit.  They suggested bringing her to day care there occasionally, which is a great idea!

With three steps forward and one step back, we are thrilled to be Sadie's forever family and love her so much.

PS. I'm pretty sure Sadie is really happy to be here too!

Sadie moved to her wonderful family's home over the weekend.  When they came to meet Sadie I thought they were an amazing, kind and compassionate family in which any Golden would be thrilled to be a member.  Sadie was so shy when they arrived that I was worried they may be looking for a different match for their family, so was delighted when they called to tell me they wanted her.

Sadie is an amazing girl that has overcome so much in a matter of weeks.  It takes her a bit to learn to trust people and believe that she will be safe and loved.  As soon as she makes that connection, she is a sweet, affectionate, playful, happy, silly girl. She is in great hands with her new family and they are working with her each day to build that trust and give her all the love she deserves.

Sadie still loves her toys, and doesn't even have a guilty expression after she shreds them! Notice the remnants of the decapitated, de-stuffed toy lobster…. I started buying toys in bulk so lobster #2 is awaiting his fate J  Here is Sadie with her amazing family!

Just a quick update to let you know I’m happy as can be and feeling great! I told you I love de-stuffing toys, well now I have discovered tennis balls. Here’s a few photos of me hanging with Mia and Snowie. Oh, and what you can’t tell by the photos is foster mom is in the background nagging me to sit down and be calm and quiet. I pretend like I can’t hear her…tee hee!! A girl has to stretch her legs once and a while!

I am still doing really well, in fact I feel so great that FM is constantly reminding me to simmer down and remember I am supposed to be calm and quiet for the next few weeks after receiving the heartworm treatment. I REALLY want to get and play with Mia and Snow and go for walks…..it is B-O-R-I-N-G sitting around all the time. I still get to play with my toys, but I am ready to retrieve.

I feel more confident every day and love being with people now. Some noises startle me a bit, but I feel safe and secure and am a new woman!

I get to see Ms. Penny Rose again this weekend while FM is out of town – I love hanging with her! Oh and there is a family coming to see me next week…yea for me!

Check out my favorite toy – my ice cream cone….and me snoozing post play time~

First of all, I want to thank Dave Carroll and his beautiful blond Dixie for sponsoring me. I have not had the pleasure of meeting them yet, but FM is crazy about Dixie and says Dave is one of the coolest, most compassionate guys she knows and he has fantastic taste in four legged blond beauties! My medical bills will be expensive, so we are extremely grateful for his generosity.

It’s been a busy week for me. I had a great weekend hanging with my buddy Sawyer (08-350) and Ms. Penny Rose and loved all the TLC from Teresa and her family. This past Monday and Tuesday I received my heartworm treatments and am going great. I was quiet the first few days and didn’t eat much, but am on pain meds and back to acting like my sweet self.

I need to remain quiet for six weeks now, which is a bit longer than FM originally anticipated, but we can still play with toys as long as I am calm. I’m anxious to get out and hang with Mia and Snow when they are playing in the yard, but have lots of new stuffed toys to amuse me. I have not started retrieving, but I do love stuffed toys…..my favorite part is de-stuffing them! I’m happy to report that I have had no accidents in the house for a week and have pretty much mastered this potty training thing.

I am a sweet, loving, curious girl and am starting to come out of my shell. I even push Mia and Snow out of the way in the morning to wake FM up with kisses, and if she doesn’t get up fast enough, I turn around and wag my tail in her face. When I am awake, I want to go outside and there is no time for dilly-dallying!! I’m not available for adoption yet, but I love visitors if you are interested in meeting me!

Hi, it’s me Sadie~

I have lived with my foster family for just over a week and am already a part of the family. In the past week I have mastered walking through doorways and on wood floors, learning how to walk down stairs, sleep through the night and am eating food out of a bowl….whew! Lots to learn! Because I have lived outside my entire life, I am still learning that I am supposed to go potty outside, but I’m a smart girl so I will make the connection soon. I’ve been groomed, had my ridiculously long nails trimmed and foster mom keeps telling me how beautiful I am! Next step is to get more exercise and lose a few pounds.

I feel very comfortable with Mia and Snowie and watch everything they do….I even picked up a toy this week, although wasn’t quite sure what to do with it. If foster mom isn’t around to keep an eye on Snowie and me, we need to be apart because we have way too much fun if you know what I mean! There are two little people here (4 and 7 years old) and they are very gentle and kind to me. They understand that people have not always been nice to me, so they take things slowly with me and let me come to them for hugs and kisses.

Great news! My front paw has healed, the vet said my heartworm is stage one, I have no heart damage and feel great. I start my heartworm treatment August 11th and then need to be very quiet for four weeks. The treatment is dangerous, so keep your paws crossed for me that I am ok. I get to hang with Ms. Penny Rose and Sawyer (08-350) this weekend while my foster mom is out of town. I hear they have a swimming pool and foster mom said I will have a blast and the exercise will be great for my figure…..I’m not so sure yet but I’ll let you know all about it.

I am still a little scared around people, but my tail wags all the time, and in the morning I sneak up and give foster mom kisses to wake her. I’m starting to trust that I am safe and people will be kind to me….yes, I do believe things are looking up for me! I’m not available for adoption until I’m heartworm free and have been spayed, but I would love to have visitors if you are interested in meeting me.

Here is a photo of me hanging out in my safe place (the bathroom) and bravely venturing out for TLC!
